The North Face Hedgehog GTX XCR Boa Hiking Shoe - Women's

Micro-adjust The North Face Women’s Hedgehog GTX XCR Boa Hiking Shoe for an exact fit all along your foot, then set out on a long day hike or light backpacking adventure. Built for mountain conditions, the Hedgehog Hiking Shoe features grippy Vibram rubber outsoles for secure footing on the trail, plus a Gore-Tex XCR waterproof, breathable membrane on the upper. Abrasion-resistant synthetic nubuck and mesh uppers stand up to sticks and stones along the way. And lest your arches suffer along the way, The North Face incorporated an ergonomic Northotic footbed in the shoe. Phew.

Bottom Line: Steady as she goes—all day long.

I brought this shoe and wore it a few times and there's a huge smell/stink (almost chemical like) coming off of it. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the shoe. How do I can rid of the smell?

You can always call/contact Boa. Explain what happened and they will send you a replacement for the part that broke. It is relatively easy to switch laces/knobs in and out -- and it takes roughly the same amount of time as swapping a shoelace. Call 303-455-5126.

Also, Boa will be launching a Lifetime Guarantee later this year, too.

I'm interested in this shoe -- but didn't want to be left stranded if the cable on it breaks. So I contacted The North Face; they say they are happy to replace the cables or send you new ones.

I purchased these hiking boots for my daughter for Christmas. She was going to spend a semester abroad and it was recommended that she have good hiking footwear. She looked at all of the options and chose these shoes. She received them for Christmas (12-25-08), left for Africa on (1-15-09) and just this past weekend (2-28-09) the cording broke while she was hiking in the mountains. That averages out to 9 weeks with only 2 mountain hikes for a total cost of $68.50 a hike. Now, the one shoe is rendered useless and she still has 4 months abroad. I did NOT get my money's worth. Neat gimmick how they tie, but the cording does not hold up under less than normal hiking conditions. What a mistake.
