The North Face Hedgehog GTX XCR Boa Hiking Shoe - Men's
The North Face Men’s Hedgehog GTX XCR Boa Hiking Shoe is your footwear answer to cold, wet trail conditions. With a Gore-Tex XCR waterproof breathable membrane to seal out weather and a Boa lacing system that is impervious to moisture or freezing temps, you’re feet stay protected whether you’re out for a two mile day hike or a weeklong ultralight sprint. The lugged Vibram sole helps you stick to slick surfaces, and a TPU shank plate guards stabilizes you on rough terrain. The North Face also added a Northodic ergonomic footbed and an EVA midsole for supportive comfort.
Bottom Line: A supportive light hiker for any trail conditions.
Good support, excellent traction, light weight and very comfortable. BOA system is easy to use but may need to adjust tension when coming down steep downhills to avoid foot slipping forward. Other than that, perfect for trails that are reasonably well prepared
This is the second pair of TNF BOA shoes I have owned (the previous pair wore out but the BOA system was still working) They are like owning a slip-on but with the support of a laces shoe. Being able to micro adjust for the terrian is a godsend on hikes
This looks like a great shoe! Hiking with a heavy pack for multiple days go with a light weight hiking boot! Long days with a trail shoe and light pack you will be fine!
I am hard on shoes i have owned some many in the past 2 years i lost count but my first pair of north faces stood up to it all. I am constantly outdoors and even in the rain the only way my feet got wet in these was when i did a creek crossing. Also the grip of these shows are amazing no slipping for me even on the many red mud hills around here. And to end it out comfortable and very flexiable i just pray to they don't get rid of the boa lacing system. I am and engineer and love this system it works so well and no more tying or replacing laces and i have yet to break it. Love these shoes
I've had these now a few weeks and I wear them everywhere; the gym, hiking, running errands, paintballing, ect. and they are great shoes overall. The size was true, good traction up and down slopes but awful on moist rocks (I can't think of many shoes that are good on wet rocks though). Love the Boa lacing system but occasionally/ randomly it unbinds w/o hitting the knob; this could prove to be an issue when combined with the low top form factor, increasing the chance of an ankle turning on the trails. The Gore-Tex XCR lining is not too hot on long hikes and the water proof attributes are a must have! I'm looking forward to trailblazing the summer away in these babies!
Fourth pair of Boa equipped North Face shoes, the newest pair appears to be as good or better than the others as they have refined the lace eyelets so as not to bind as they are tightened. I've worn the daylights out of all of them in all kinds of conditions and have never ever had any problems others seem to have with the Boa system. I think the key things is not to twist the knob until you lose feeling in your foot lol I certainly hope that North Face not abandon this system, it's innovative and just like most new ideas will improve. I always order one full size larger with NF shoes and boots as they seem to run a touch smaller than New Balance or Nike. I've had the hedgehog sole on a pair of the taller NF shoes they will track dirt more than others but they are Vibran and will wear like iron and by having Goretex makes this shoe an all around winner.
This is a great shoe for hiking and general wear. Going through the airport security is sure easy, too. The speed lace system works great for even tightening and quick removal. The arch support is good, in addition to the shoe fitting like a glove. I normally wear a 9, but got a 9 1/2 because I have a little wider feet. I don't know why there aren't any stores that stock this shoe.
Got a pair about 3 weeks ago and wear them in the ER for 12 hour shifts. Great arch/ankle support and minimal break-in time. I plan to use them for 2 trips to Moab this May and October. The Gortex does a great job of keeping my feet dry of bodily fluids as well...
