The North Face Goliath Bx Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Climashield HL
The North Face made the oversized Goliath Bx 0 Degree Sleeping Bag for all you taller champions of adventure. With the regular bag's 66-inch shoulder circumference and 6ft 4-inch height, the Goliath Bx provides lots of room for larger campers, or a roomier sleeping bag for those of you who don't like to feel cramped while you sleep. With lightweight Climashield insulation and overlapping shingle construction, the Goliath keeps you comfortable and prevents cold spots. The North Face lined this zero degree bag with silky taffeta lining—even tough lumberjacks enjoy a soft touch. On warm summer nights, zip open the hood and use the zipper on the footbox to keep your toes cool.
Bottom Line: The North Face Goliath Bx 0 Degree Sleeping Bag might not protect you from David's slingshot, but it will give you a good night's sleep before the big fight.
yes you can, but I would recommend buying one left hand zip and one right that way they can both face up when you zip them together. The other option would be The North Face Twin Peaks two person sleeping bag - this should be back in stock in the next couple of weeks.
Just how small can I get this sleeping bag? I am 6' 9", 300lbs and this is the only sleeping bag I could find to fit me. But I'm going Hiking for 4 days and I'm afraid this bag will take up too much space in my pack. How small can I compress it and are there any other options?
The stuff size is listed, 11" x 21", but that is just a standard stuff sack. You can get a compression sack, and probably take a couple inches or so off the total size, but I doubt it.
For a guy my size, it's tough to find a comfortable bag, let alone a mummy bag. If you're an extra-large person, it's doubtful that you'll find a better fart sack than this one.
The last bag I had was the 3-piece army issue one; it kept me warm up to my nipples, the rest of my body was SOL.
This one has all the features you could want, like the foot box that has a little blanket pocket for your feet, so you can open the toe end AND keep bare feet covered at the same time. It's also got a little muff patch of what feels like goretex at chest level inside the bag, so you can store your hands. Whatever it's made of, it kept my fingers warm.
It comes in a mesh bag and has its own stuff sack, one that doesn't have any compression straps, making it somewhat bulky, but let's face it, what did you expect from a bag called 'Goliath?' I suppose a good seamster could lash a few nylon buckles to it and crush it down to the size of your lower leg (thigh if you're a marathoner).
I haven't had the opportunity to test this under the stars or in icy conditions, but I'd say this would be more than enough for the 3-season. With a good bivy cover or a 2-man tent (i like to stretch out), this is ideal for car camping, though probably too heavy-duty for extended backpacking.
This is a great bag. Not perfect, but, basically the only one on the market for the giants walking among us.
Two last questions. I'm relatively tall (191 cm) but also thin (87kg). Is the long the proper size for me? Does this bag fit into the North face Terra 60 backpack? Thanks
If you look at the sizing chart, you are just on the very edge of the regular, which is fine. Also note that the long size gets wider than the regular. I would go with the regular size. The bag does take up quite a bit of room, but it will fit into your pack. It all depends on how light you plan on packing. Consider compression straps to lessen the bulk.
Could you please explain the following? "Zip open footbox for venting or to use as a blanket" It can be fully opened? Even in foot box? Is there a link with a photo? I like to use goliath as a blanket in house (with temps around 20celsius) sometimes. Is it possible?
Most sleeping bag zippers stop just above the footbox, so they can not by opened up to use as a blanket. The Goliath has a zip that goes all the way around the footbox, so it can be opened up blanket style.
