Functional protection in a fast moving shoe.
Bottom Line: Move quickly and stay dry in The North Face Fury Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Shoe
I wear these shoes pretty much all the time. I wear them on day and overnight hikes, trekking across campus, doing yard work, everywhere. I even wear them at work. I stand/walk on a concrete floor in a warehouse for eight hours at a time-usually after walking several miles to and from school. My feet never complain. Most of the time I don't even realize I'm wearing them.
But it's on the trail that they really shine. I'm the family pack mule. I usually end up carrying much of my wife's gear. But even under pretty heavy loads over reasonably rough terrain they have held up remarkably well, and performed perfectly. Excellent traction, comfort, and the waterproofing is outstanding, for a low-ankle shoe.
I bought these shoes for my boyfriend and every time he wears them he tells me I am the best girlfriend ever. He wore them in Costa Rica for a week straight, walking through rivers and the rainforest. He said his feet never got wet, and not only that, but the shoes smelled just like new when he got back. And that is truly a feat for him (no pun intended). These shoes do more and hold up better than a pair of Nike or Adidas that would cost the same price. Worth every penny.
These hiking shoes are the BEST hiking shoe I have ever used. For the weekend hiker, you would have a hard time beating this shoe. The toe box is extremely comfortable and the cushioning is perfect. I have just ordered my second pair. I literally wore the first pair out after many miles.
I bought these looking for a shoe that would be a good trail running shoe as well as a dependable waterproof shoe for wet trails. I hope to try them on a weekend hike in the near future. So far the shoe has performed perfectly for what I intended.
I recently purchased a pair of these and wore them in a down-pour on Cumberland National Seashore, GA and they stayed dry. Then I wore them for a couple of days of running on the Appalacian trail, they were supportive and fast. Great Shoe.
Actually, I am wearing them right now, they are super comfy and best of all - waterproof. A priceless feature when you are hiking for an hour through an Atlantic storm on Cumberland National Seashore.
Great shoes! Super light, totally waterproof and very comfy. A little stiff out of the box but worked in after about a mile. Definetely recommend, plus they're fairly inexpensive for North Face gear.
Busted out the North Face shoes for a Mammoth trip and was very satisfied with the waterproofness and comfortability of the shoes. Moreover, the seam on the heel will prove to be much more durable than my other hiking shoes, I am allaround impressed...can't go wrong with The North Face.
Used it all over Italy, Ireland, and Chicago recently. Performed well in all aspects. During rain it kept me dry and during hot weather it kept my feet dry from the sweat as well. I recommend this shoe. It was very comfortable as well.
I am a golf course superintendent and often find after a dewy morning, my feet are soaked. Not with this shoe. This is my second pair, lasting over a year with daily use (50 hours/week). An all-season show with good traction and keeps my feet dry, during dewy mornings and snow events. At the same time its light and comfortable during hot summer days. This is a great shoe that holds up well in daily outdoor situations.
This is a nice shoe that does a lot of things well. Good for light hiking with up to a 30-35lb pack while keeping your dogs dry and protected. Don't try to overdo it though; they just do not have a lot of support. I found them comfortable right out of the box with little or no break in period. Traction of the sole is more than adequate for all but the sketchiest terrain. I upsized 1/2 click to get the right fit with a good medium weight sock.
I have been breaking these shoes in for the last few weeks. I found that they are comfortable, light and fairly breathable (considering that they are waterproof). On the trail I stepped into a stream up to the opening and stayed in there for about ten seconds before I felt a tiny bit of moisture come through the top of the shoe. Pricing was excellent when compared to a local sporting franchise. Happy trekking!
If I could get away with it, I'd never wear anything else (except maybe flip-flops) on my feet. They do everything and they're comfortable. My 2nd pair was a little bit narrower than the other 2, but still OK. I use those for casual wear, and use the others for outdoor performance. The 1st pair is just about toast, now relegated to tasks like cleaning the garage, but still feel great on my feet. Good color choices, too. What more can I say? I love these shoes!
I was very interested in finding a shoe that was a "go anywhere" shoe. This is it. The weather changes from snow to rain to sunshine here many times in a day. This shoe stares them all down.
These are a great pair of sneakers. I had to walk more than 10 miles a day for three days during the Transit strike in NYC. These sneakers were very comfortable to walk in. Also, these are waterproof which is an awesome feature. Before, I would walk through wet grass in the morning and I would always feel the wetness in my shoes as the water leaked in. However, with these shoes I did not feel any moisture.
I had been looking for a Gore-Tex running shoe, and this is perfect. I have owned this shoe for about 3 months and have worn it around rainy New Zealand and around snowy South Lake Tahoe. It has lived up to all expectations. The shoe stays dry, it is very light-weight, the laces stay tied, and the traction is grippy. It's also very attractive and green is my favorite color!
This shoe has some really tight grip and keeps your feet warm and dry - even in wet conditions. It's one of the better shoe purchases I've made in a while. Although it was a little pricy, I am still content.
I bought these for my 16 yr old son before a week long trip to Canyonlands and Arches NPs in Utah. We covered 35 in the backcountry and the shoes very well on rocky trails and scrambling over slick rock. The fit was good, they kept his feet dry, they're light and breath well. And get this, he even thinks they look cool!
These shoes might be the one reason why I went to all of my classes this winter. Usually I would avoid going outside for the simple fact that after being out there for only a few minutes my feet would become cold and wet. The one problem that I have had with the shoe is that it is extremely hard to break in and if you choose to wear short socks the shoe can become uncomfortable at the ankle
It is always difficult to purchase footwear "through the mail" If I had tried it on in a store, I most likely would not have purchased them. They took about 2 weeks(10 days) to break in to the point where they no longer hurt to wear. Because of the quality construction, there are a few layers of seams that junction and cause discomfort at the top of laces. The tread is good!
