Not into ski pants that fit like plumb-smugglers? Neither is The North Face Freedom Pant. This pant has a relaxed fit and a loose cut through the butt, thighs, knees, and cuffs.
HyVent 2L fabric and fully taped seams block wetness
Chimney Venting System uses exterior thigh vents and gaiter vents to create airflow and dump excess heat
Articulated knees increase mobility
Hand-warmer pockets store heat packets on cold days
I tried these on and I did not like the relaxed fit. I wanted them for alpine skiing. They seemed more like a snowboarding pant. I am 6'1" and 170 lbs. there just seemed to be way too much material in the knees and pant legs. I ordered the TNF Liberation pants instead--these are supposed to have a standard fit. The Liberation is $178 and the Freedom pant is $128. I would have preferred to pay less, but I didn't like the relaxed fit.
Just a stoke report. Just bought these for the upcoming season. Personally for me (6' 175, waist 34) TNF ski pants always fit me perfect. Not too tight, not too lose, and are cut well in all areas. These do just that. They are the perfect fit, look and feel. Havn't gotten them dirty yet, but soon will. If you are looking for a cheap pant, that looks cool, and have a very well rounded look, feel, these are them. Will report back after I find out if they are functional.
Im trying to decide between TNF Freedom Pant (free fit) and TNF Monte Cargo Pant (park fit)... I'm not sure the difference between the free fit and the park fit: which one is less baggy?
The park fit is the baggier of the two fits and the free fit is the less baggy of the two fits. The free fit is a pretty standard fitting pant, roomy enough for freedom of movement, but not overly baggy. The park fit is more of a park inspired fit, more of a modern, baggy cut, not that you're swimming in it, but baggy enough so you don't look like you just came from the race course. The free fit sounds like the one you're looking for if you're looking for less baggy.
Since these are the uninsulated version i doubt they have the heatseeker eco like it says they do, however they do have a nice brushed poly lining. The outer material is very very durable and they block wind and snow fully. I've never had to use them on a rainy day so i can't attest to the waterproofness of them. They don't offer tons of warmth but the relaxed fit means you can layer all you want. When you're doing work and those legs start burnin these pants have the best ventilation system ever. Between the ankle vents (uncloseable), the side knee vents and the fly you can customize breathablilty. Great pant for the price. I am six feet tall and weigh 160 lbs. and the medium fits great(thanks to a little help from the waist pull tabs!)
We are about the same size, and the large long works well for me. The waist has some adjustment to it, so I think it is way more comfortable to go with something a little larger than a little too small. Check out the large long-
Skiing for 25+ years, I have found that these North Face Freedom pants are absolutely perfect for me. I am 6'1 200 pounds, and the size Large fits absolutely perfect. Even if I gained some winter weight, it has an velcro adjustable waist. Not only is the fit perfect, but one pair of Patagonia Cap3 bottoms are all I have ever needed underneath to keep me perfectly warm and dry. I have 2 pairs....1 black.....1 grey.........These are all I will ever need.
There must be a mistake in the specs. The insulated version has a 60 Gram Heatseeker insulation package, where the uninsulated pant has a Thermo stretch liner. The Thermo liner does provide a little bit of insulation and has a nice feel to it, but it does not provide the same level of warmth that the insulation does.
These pants are perfect. The insulation is not too heavy and not too light and the thigh pocket is great on the top of the leg is a very smart idea. The other thing I like about these pants is that I have a 30 inseam. The "short" size fits me perfect. All the other pants I have ever own come with a standard inseam of 32, so the bottoms of the pants get all torn up.
As long as they're making, I'm buying. The fit and construction are excellent, the venting works wonders and the cargo pocket is as thoughful as any pocket on the market - a simple velcro closure ON TOP of the thigh (think about chairlift access and not falling sideways on your cargo). The only thing they could do to ruin it is to change something. Try them on in a store to get the sizing right - lot's of options.
What would you guess recommend for a 6'5 30lb guy. I'm not obese just big. I wear a 44 waist very loose jean. I'm a boarder and a skier. So would these work out comfortably with a XXL/Long?...
