The North Face Flash Jacket - Men's - 2007

Stuffed with ultra-warm, compressible goose down, The North Face Men's Flash Jacket is ready for your alpine pursuits. Zip into the Flash Jacket as you belay your partner, and stow this super-light jacket in your climbing bag as the day heats up. Pull a shell over this down jacket and stay dry when wet winter storms roll in. The North Face Flash Jacket's brushed collar lining won't chafe against your chin, and the jacket stuffs into the left hand pocket for quick, easy storage.

Bottom Line: You'll be comfortable and warm in a Flash.

super warm but.....

This jacket is super light and amazing on cold days. however, the material used to make this style of jacket gets torn and ripped very easy. Northface uses a different material (I would assume to make it lighter and not so puffy)but it's weak. I wear this around town, but would never take it snowboarding due to the fact it would probally rip on a chuck of ice or a tree limb. I would go to the store and compair this jacket to other northface down jackets and you can tell the difference.

Perfection

I never realized what life was like without the Flash. My layers always seemed bulky. And never warm enough. Life was marginal. Then the amazing day. A package shows up on my porch. A fluffy cloud ready to keep me warm. The Flash had toastiness without the usual Fat Albert Bulk. The fit is true.

Superb jacket

This is really a great jacket. It doesnt make you look like you weigh an extra 100 pounds. it is light, super warm, and has excellent quality. It can get a bit warm sometimes though. It is the one jacket I turn to more and more now. If its raining or snowing heavy then I throw a gore tex shell around this, but most days this is all the jacket you need! Highly recommended.

Toasty warm and light

By:

The jacket is extremely light and warm. It stuffs into the front left pocket so it packs very small. I had the 2006 version with the 900 fill and had the same problem that everyone else had with down leak. I wound up getting the 2007 version (with the newer square shaped baffles instead of the older tubes) and have had no problems so far. It now has 800 fill but seems just as warm as my old one without the annoying leakage. I am used to wearing a size large but at 6'0" 190 lbs, the medium fits just right.

North Face Down Jacket

I love this coat. I was trying to decide between this and the Nuptse. By far I am happier with this choice. This jacket is very comfortable, incredibly warm but not nearly as bulky. Looks great with jeans and a white shirt underneath too.

Great jacket. I ended up getting 2 of these jackets. I bought one for myself and I had to get one as a gift for my dad. Jacket is very warm despite being so light.

Warm and Light Weight

Love the jacket, but feathers come out here and there. Don't pull the feathers out, let them come out on their own. Lightweight and extremly warm. Wear a shell jacket on top if you plan on going in the rain.

Warmth without the puff

By:
January 30, 2008

After weeks of research and comparing countless down jackets, I settled on the Flash and couldn't be happier. I love the warmth and light weight of down jackets, but have never been in to the marshmallow look. While the flash isn't as warm as some of the jackets with more down in them (such as the North Face Elysium), I still find it competes well due to the 850 fill down and unique segmented design. The pertex shell is great and is not something you will get with cheaper jackets. Not only does it shed water (which is essential for the down to keep its loft in moist conditions), but it has an incredibly silky feel, and it is strong yet feather light. Another great thing about the jacket is its packing size. Due to the 850 fill down and thin pertex shell, it easily compresses into its own pocket into roughly the size of a small cantaloupe. With compression straps, it could likely be compressed to softball size or perhaps even smaller. All in all, the only downside I see to the jacket is that the colors tend to be very bright and almost luminescent due to the shiny texture of the pertex shell. While this troubled me at first, it has grown on me as it gives the jacket a distinct flare. If you are looking for a jacket with a great warmth/weight ratio but don't want to look like a puffball, I couldn't give a higher recommendation for the North Face Flash.

So much lighter than my last down coat!

By:

I was surprised by how light this jacket was... and a little skeptical that it would keep me warm enough. Well, we've had a warm winter, so it hasn't been tested severely, but so far, it's great. Very light, and quite snug.
My only concern is that the fabric seems very thin. I'm pretty worried that it could tear too easily, if it ever gets caught (on a tree branch or a car door, etc.).
And of course, feathers are escaping. But that's par for the course with down.
