The North Face Expansion Triclimate 3-in-1 Jacket - Men's - 2008
OK, so you've heard of zip-out liner jackets, but what's the use of the sweet goggle, media, and other inner shell pockets when you have the liner zipped in? Not much, to be honest, which is why The North Face Men's Expansion 3-in-1 Triclimate Jacket has a snap-out liner. Three-point snap-out/loop connections allow for easy reach-in access. Of course, this three-in-one jacket has waterproof breathable fabric and fully taped seams for wet winter storms. When spring rolls around, wear the shell without the liner for a pow-skirt and goggle-pocket featured shell. Sport the synthetically insulated liner jacket on its own for walks into town.
Bottom Line: How to I reach the inner pockets? Oh, snap!
What exactly is the weight of this jacket? Say the shell and liner combined? No website, not even TNF, have the answer... hard to consider buying it without knowing the total weight.
So this is a nice jacket, the only thing I will say is that I didnt read the whole description to see that the inner lining snaps out instead of zipping, I probably wouldnt have ordered this jacket had I read it more carefully. That being said, its a nice coat
The North Face Expansion Tri-Climate is a great value in style, flexibility and warmth. Originally ordering a mens size XL, because TNF jackets tend to run about a size smaller than other brands, I found it to be a bit too big so I exchanged it for a mens large, for a perfect fit! Thanks Backcountry for your great customer service!
Great coat. Liner is also 100% waterproof (I ran it under tap water, it's good to go). Plenty warm when paired together. One complaint is no pit-zips, or any other kind of venting. Good thing the fabric is breathable. The liner is wearable on it's own, is a bit short, but looks like a down jacket.
I was searching for a jacket/coat for my bf to wear so he can wear "layers", which is so much better than just a big and thick heavy coat. I found this jacket online and thought for $200 bucks, I can get 2 jackets. I wanted to do some more research on NorthFace since he was obessed with the brand so I went to North Face on Magnificent Mile in Chicago and HOLY COW!!! It is expensive. It cost almost $200 bucks to get just the inner jacket (that is inluding Chicagos high tax of 10.25). So I got a great deal getting online versus getting in the store. I didn't like how it was shipped though, it was shipped UPS in a bag that was semi ripped. I did check the Jacket and it was fine so just glad it got there in one piece. I did just get any old box and wrapped up for him and when he opened it he loved it. I do have to admit I gave the gal who talked to me online regarding jackets heart-ache cause I asked soo many questions, but here is the positives on this Jacket:
1) The outside pockets are not too high, they are at a nice comfortable position to put your hands in to keep them warm. If you are 5'8 - 6'0 it should be fine. Maybe even taller. 2) The color is great, I bought the black with gray with the white stripe. 3) My bf likes to take off the outer coat so if he gets hot, he can take 1 of the jackets off. I think the buttons are much easier to manager than the zippers. 4) This jackets have inner pockets in the shell and the inner jacket. 5) This jacket is warm, but doesn't make you sweat when you wear it. It is also NOT heavy, but keeps you warm. LOL... I should know since it's been snowing so much in Chicago, I had to wear his jacket sometimes since I was freezing when I would go into the city. So I would wear is inner jacket and he would wear is shell with a fleece underneath. 6) My bf said that NorthFace guarantee all their products, I am all for that. 7) NorthFace is durable, since it survived the UPS deliver with the bag torn, but the Jacket was fine.
I do want to thank the staff member who helped me for 2 hours chatting online to direct me to the PERFECT christmas gift. Thank you for your patience and for your customer service, I will be shopping with backcountry.com again.
Did you seriously just ask that? Holy crap that's funny. But to answer your question, hellno. It's $250 EVERYWHERE else, and on bc.com you get no tax + free shipping. Buy 2!!!________________I just picked this up for $107 from the sister site www.tramdock.com
Bought this jacket to add to my North face collection. Fit is excellent. This jacket is everything they say it is! I would recommend this to anyone wanting a jacket for all of the cool and cold seasons.
Quality front zipper, wish the pocket zippers closed at the bottom of the pocket, not the top. Nice that it has a powder skirt inside (but I dont use it). Wish the outer shell had more inside pockets, and liner had zip pockets, and more pockets inside and out. Liner attaches at bottom of sleeves and at neck, pretty easy to put in or remove. Got too hot at about 25 degrees F when skiing at Stratton, VT and removed the liner, was comfortable then. Wish the jacket had pit zips to help vent heat on warmer days. Skied wearing jacket at Mount Tremblant about 10 degrees F and was pretty warm. Might not be good for colder temps. "Large" pocket on inside of shell decent, but wish it was big enough for a pair of gloves. Good water resistance, and well made.
