The North Face Dyad 22 Tent 2-Person 3-Season - 2007
The lightweight North Face Dyad 22 two-person, three-season Tent protects you from the elements when every ounce counts. Although this two-person tent weighs in at a mere 33oz, the weatherproof, single-walled Dyad stays stable and durable. This Flight Series ultralight tent uses a fully seam-sealed canopy and taped floor to ensure you stay dry during any spring or summer storm. The Dyad's top and bottom vents create more air circulation. This means you can go to sleep and wake up to fresh air. Push the Dyad 22 Tent's color-coded poles through the continuous pole sleeves and clip them in to pitch this tent, and climb inside for a peaceful nights sleep.
Bottom Line: The North Face lightweight Dyad 22 Tent keeps weight minimal and doesn't skimp on performance or protection.
easy to set up pretty good ventilation, though it seems condensation is sometimes unavoidable depending on the weather. practical for backpackers who want to minimize weight yet sleep in comfort as opposed to a bivy. its also cheaper than other competitively light tents.
Lived in the tent for two months over a three month period of time. One month spent driving down the Baja Peninsula, one month in Chile (Patagonia), and one month in Belize.
The condensation was a guarantee, if it is cold, you wake up in an ice shell/cocoon.
It is light, easy to set up, spills wind well if the direction is constant. Horrible Horrible Horrible in the rain.
Be careful with the poles, they have weird angles and when feeding them through the pole sleeves everything comes taut and the poles will snap if not in the exact spot.
Light weight, but Sierra Designs Asp 2 might be a better option despite the increase in weight.
This tent would be great if you are only planning on a single night in slightly warmer conditions. (which wouldn't be the case if you are above 5 or 6,000 feet)
do you know if a flysheet is made for the dyad 22 by north face? I know the tent is not suppose to leak but I've heard some info on the tent that concerns me. thanks for any info.
The dyad is both light and dry. It was easy to set up and had plenty of room for me and my backpacking gear. Might be a little hot for people in warmer climates though. All in all a great value.
That depends how many other items, how big they are, how big your backpack is, how good you are at packing, and a huge number of other variables. If you had looked in the Tech Specs, you would see "Packed Size: 23 x 6 in". Go with that.
Marketed as a 2 person, I'd have to argue and say 1 couple, but there's nothing wrong with that! Great tent, easy setup, looks sharp too. Like other reviews, I did notice condensation too, but that's what you get from a single wall. My only real complaint was storage space, but then again, with an ultralight tent, this isn't surprising. Easy enough to overcome though, a 5x7 tarp, some guy lines, and a stick added a great vestibule to keep our stuff dew free. Bottom line: You'll be snuggling with your tent mate, even if you don't want to.
Girlfriend gave me this for Christmas one year. It is super small and super light. My only complaint is with the condensation in the mornings. I have only really slept in it with her and we were fine on space. I am about 6'1", 185 lbs and she is 5'6" 120 lbs. Absolutely love it.
Product description lists tent weight as 33 ounces. NOT! Actual weight of tent and poles, (no stuff bag or stakes) is 2 pounds 11 ounces (i.e. 43 ounces)
A good weather tent. Some problems with condensation at lower temps (<50F)and in long rain storms. I think there is too much internal surface for the vent area provided. Small? Yes. 30 sqft is small, barely enough. Just don't be a big person...think small! Yes, 2#11 is light, and it packs small. The condensation is my only bug with it.
This tent is wicked, ultra light, strong design, easy to set up. Like most two man tents on the market, this is a really tight fit for two. I just used it as a solo tent and it was nice and roomy for just me. Not a tent for warm climates though, it does heat up a bit. If I find a better tent on the market in this price range I'll be amazed.
