The North Face Diad Jacket - Men's - 2008

Weighing only 7.9oz, The North Face Men's DIAD Jacket is perfect for ounce-obsessed backpackers and climbers who like their gear to weigh as little as possible. The waterproof breathable DIAD Jacket protects you from high mountain storms and nasty coastal rain storms with HyVent DT fabric. So you don't feel stuffy and hot, The North Face included mini Underarm zips. The DIAD Jacket's chest pocket won't interfere with your harness or backpack waist belt, and the lightweight hood keeps your head dry when you're battling through brutally wet weather.

Bottom Line: Travel light and stay dry with The North Face DIAD jacket.

Amazingly lightweight waterproof shell at a bargain

By:
November 7, 2008

Living in the Pacific Northwest, I wanted a lightweight waterproof shell that I could use for outdoor runs. I was considering the M Venture Jacket, also by The North Face. However, when you compare the too, the DIAD is clearly several steps ahead. Even at the sale price the DIAD costs more than the M Venture's full price, but the DIAD is almost half the weight. With the added features of seamed front zipper, the DIAD doesn't need the flap over the front zipper, like the M Venture needs. This is a big feature advantage as I often get the zipper caught in these zipper flaps. I am very happy with the DIAD.

HyVent Works, but not durable

By:

I've had this jacket for over a year now - the waterproofing keeps you dry - even while commuting to work in the snow and rain of Boston, but not if it rips! The chest pocket ripped on mine, and then the seam under the arm, and then the seam that holds the zipper. The rips were due to normal wear and tear, they came undone while backpacking and climbing - just movement, no abrasions. Duck tape fixed everything, but I'm looking for something more sturdy next time...

does this jacket need re-proofing? as i have had mine for about

does this jacket need re-proofing? as i have had mine for about 18 months and i can't figure out wether it's letting in rain or not wicking sweat away.

I usually put a new DWR treatment on the exterior of my rain shells once a year. I doubt that your jacket isn't waterproof anymore, but if the shell fabric starts to absorb moisture, it can affect the breathability of a jacket. I prefer the spray-on treatments over the wash-in products.

Light as a feather. Comfortable. Bulletproof! Lets in less water than a duck's butt and it's so airy you can use it during a monsoon in Singapore without melting.

great jacket

Great jacket for backpacking and more. A bit short for an everyday rain jacket but decent.

Hood is great - you can fix it so that it turns with your dome.

Love to wear this jacket on those grey days with rain. Also good to have in the backpack in the mountains when the wind gets colder.....
