After years as The North Face's top-selling fleece, the Women's Denali Jacket is ... still on top. The versatility of this expedition-weight fleece makes it a top pick for everything from hanging in base camp to chilling on campus. The North Face uses abrasion-resistant 2-ply nylon on the shoulders to add wind resistance and reduce wear from backpack straps, so you don't have to replace it after a season of hiking local trails or tripping across Europe. This renowned water-resistant fleece takes on a day in the mountains as easy as a trip downtown.
Note: To be kinder to the environment, The North Face now manufactures all Denali Jackets with recycled Polartec 300 fleece. Colors with an 'R' in front of the name feature recycled fleece.
I bought this coat for my 15 year old daughter. It is absolutely beautiful! So soft. The fit is perfect. The price was fantastic as well! I will be watching next year for the same sale at Back Country Outlet so that I can buy one for myself.
I bought this jacket in a medium on sale. They do run big. Probably should have gotten a large but they didn't have one in a color I would want. I'm 5"2" and 150 and usually have to buy a large or xlarge. I've always wanted a denali jacket but could never get past the price. It's great if you get cold easily although I wouldn't want to layer underneath a shell because it is kind of bulky. It's also quite short in the waist so tall girls may want to try one on before they order. I like the nylon around the shoulders. I haven't experienced any wear issues on the jacket from using a backpack in the winter while snowshoeing. You can heat up fast in it. I find myself stripping out of it on cold sunny days but if it's windy you'll probably keep it on.
Hands down the most versatile jacket I own, definitely stands up to the tests I've given it and the price it carries. The 300 weight fleece is the heaviest of the fleece lines for North Face and the water wicking fleece fabric comes in handy when you get caught in a light drizzle. The reinforced nylon shoulders protect your jacket from carrying around a backpack or shoulder bag. The 2007 Denali line for women has improved so much since it's older counterparts. TNF lost the pit zips and cut the jacket slimmer. It keeps you very warm without holding in sweat and is the jacket to buy if you have to buy only one fleece. For those who want a less expensive but similar type jacket. The North Face Khumbu or Pumori would be the next obvious choice.
I have this jacket and i know it has tags on it that tells you how to wash it correctly. can anyone read to me what the tag says to wash it? **note** please don't tell me "well, i wash mine like any other jacket"
I always suggest to my customers to wash their fleece and other gear pieces that have a performance factor to them (wicking, fleece, thermal, etc.) using a powdered detergent. Liquid soaps are petroleum based, and tend to leave a residue behind ultimately leading to your jacket losing it's compression and pilling fleece. After washing, tumble-dry low to bring the water slowly out of it without boiling over the fleece. Imagine sticking a hair dryer on your head for an hour; it would frizz out too. Good luck!
I have been enjoying my Denali fleece this fall. It is perfect for weather from the 40's on up. I think the recycled fleece is warmer than the non-recycled fleece of the older models. It doesn't seem like I feel the wind as much. I love how it can zip into my shells; it also repels water on its own very well. The pockets are great with the soft lining, the collar is very warm, and the cut is very good for wearing other layers underneath. I definitely found a great deal at Backcountry.
I purchased my first NF Denali jacket in Alba Green (one of the discontined colors) for an incredible price. This is my fourth NF purchase from backcountry.com this year because you are THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN! I ordered the medium (I'm 5'4" and weigh 135 lbs) and the fit is perfect. The color is a beautiful soft shade of green - too bad they discontinued it.
I'd like to order a Denali for my daughter. She has one other NF fleece jacket that became quite "pilled" after just a few washings. Is the Denali more pill resistant?
Hi Lisa- The Denali jacket uses Polartec fleece that is some of the highest quality in the industry. I think you will get years of use out of the Denali without major pilling issues- Hope this helps
After getting this fleece in pink for Christmas a couple years ago, I decided to buy a black one. I ordered it in Medium, as my pink one is a Large, and it is pretty baggy. When the medium arrived (in 4 business days!!! so fast), it was wayyyyy too small. This is a great jacket, I just wish their sizing had a middle ground for those of us who are in between! (I'm 5'10" & wear a 8 or a 10) The sleeve length and chest diameter were my main complaints about the medium. The product itself is VERY high quality, and I could not be happier with your site as a retailer. Thank you!
I have a similar jacket by another manufacturer and there is no comparison. My daughter has the Denali and when I saw how warm hers was I started shopping for my own. I found a great deal on a discontinued color which made it even better.
I wore this on Mackinac Island (MI) about two weeks ago. There was some crazy weather going on....raining sideways, insane winds, waves were 10 feet, you get the picture. I stayed dry and cozy the entire time! The jacket is worth its weight in gold!
This jacket is everywhere! And for good reason. It's comfortable and warm. The nylon on the shoulders and sleeves helps to prevent pilling, as well as helping the jacket to stand up to wind and snow.
I Was Very Dissatisfied With The Denali I Ordered. I Felt As If My Measurements Fell In Between The 2-4 Size Range, Therefore, I Ordered A Small. It Was TOO Small And Definitely Way Too Short. I Sent The Denali Back And Ordered The Windall, Which I Thought Was A More Classic Looking Jacket. If You Plan On Ordering The Denali And Are Small But Have A Slightly Longer Torso And Arms Then I Would Suggest Ordering A Size Up.
I would probably go with and extra small for now, but if you still think you are going to grow quite a bit the small might be worth considering. Hope this helps
Great jacket. I got a great deal on a discontinued jacket. My daughter wears it everyday. Kids don't like to wear coats but NorthFace they will wear. I always know she is warm.
I bought 3 of these jackets, one in black and 2 moonlight/ivory- one for my mom... we absolutely love them. can wear all year around!! great investment.. I also recommend this site, they are a pleasure to do business with, not to mention prices cannot be beat!!!
I would like to see North Face make jackets in all colors in XXL. I am a tall girl who has broad shoulders & long arms. They are available in men's, and i don't see why they can't be made in womens as well....
I have had the denali north face coats for years, I've always had black. This time I bought myself the ivory/tan one, and love it! It has been a chilly spring in Minnesota and I have gotten a lot of use out of it already. It is very stylish, and most important it is functional. I know I will have it a long time because I have some that are 12 years old now, and they never go out of style.
I'm fully acknowledging that this is a trendy jacket... it's cute, it's popular, everyone's daughter wants one. Okay, that being said, I was actually looking for a layering fleece for fall/winter hiking and climbing, and I have to say the Denali is pretty much just eh. I could see wearing this jacket to school or running errands, but for actual outdoor sports, it seems like the North Face has put more emphasis on fashion than on function. It's absolutely not windproof, not that warm and pretty bulky at that. I'm sticking with my Mountain Hardwear windstopper lightweight fleece and windstopper soft shell. Both together feel less bulky than the Denali. The North Face is also charging quite a bit for what is basically a fashion piece!
It's the Denali... everyone in downtown Chicago has one and for a good reason. It's incredibly warm and doesn't make you look like a huge marshmallow. True to size and very comfortable.
Everyone's got one. This is the most popular item on Backcountry.com. It's a great jacket--lasts forever, easy to clean and warm. The masses don't lie!
I recently purchased a denali and LOVE it, so I was a little upset when I got hit by a hot ember from a campfire. The ember burned a hole in the fleece within seconds. Anyone ever had this happen and have any advice on how to 'patch' the hole?
I was smoking a, ahem, rolled cigarette and singed a hole in the sleeve of mine...right then I knew never to get any jacket color except black. I didn't know about the warranty, maybe if I find the jacket i will drnf iy in.
I actually burned a hole in my roomate's North Face jacket from accidentally draping it on a heat lamp, but it was a down jacket. What she did was send it to the North Face warranty department for a repair. When she got it back you would have never known there had been a hole in it. You can find the info for shipping it to them on their website under customer service-warranty. I would say sending it to them is the way to go if you want a flawless repair, but be prepared to pay them to repair it (up to $50ish), since their "lifetime" guarantee is only for manufacturing defects.
I absolutely love this jacket but the size is not true to size. I thought I had perfectly matched up to my size by using the sizing chart but found my jacket was too small. I purchased a small but needed a medium. I am 120 lbs and 5'7" and am about a size 2-4. If this sounds like you and you are unsure about a size, definitely get a medium, especially if don't like your jackets tight fitting! The sizing chart is not the best tool to use on the website in determining a size. But I was very satisfied with the jacket...just have to go through now with exchanges!
I ordered my first Denali Jacket in one of the discontinued colors (Alba Green) because it was on sale for $60. Based on other reviews of this color I was a little skeptical but figured I could always return it if I didn't like it. I LOVE IT. It is a beautiful soft shade of green that looks great with jeans, beige pants and dark colored sweats. I ordered the medium (I'm 5'4" and weigh 135 lbs) and can fit a sweater under it (I live in New England). I can't say enough about backcountry.com. It is hands-down the best website around for getting great deals on TNF products. This is the fourth North Face jacket I've ordered for myself and my two college age daughters from backcountry.com. All were unbeatable prices with free shipping. Thank you from a loyal customer.
We were just told by a sales clerk that the Denali has a shirt cut which is shorter and a jacket cut which is longer. I haven't seen any reference to this in any on line catalogue. How can I tell the difference?
sounds like a crazy person to me...im not sure about the womens one but the mens is way longer in the back than the front so maybe thats what he ment. becuase theres only one denali
I will always shop Backcountry before purchasing from anyone else. The beautiful color green was discontinued but the jacket was top quality and the price was exceptionally low. I am 5'5 and 135 lbs and the medium was a perfect fit,
I looked at this jacket at another store but did not want to spend that much money on it. When checking on an order I had placed I found that you had it on sale at a great price so I had to have it. Its great! Very warm on windy days!
So this was my first North Face Fleece- I've had other stuff by them and I figured it was time for a nice warm fleece.
This jacket is awesome- warm, heavy weight, exactly what I was looking for. It isn't a layering jacket, if that's what you're looking for- it's a bit too bulky for that, unless you zip it into a north face outer shell, but it is perfect for autumn days and even winter I'm sure if you wear something warm under it.
Others have said this jacket isn't at all windproof- I would have to revise and say it is "breeze-proof," but nothing more than that. I've worn it on a 45 degree, slightly breezy day with just a long sleeve shirt underneath and been perfectly fine.
As far as sizing goes, I'm 5'5.5" and I ordered the large. I'm glad I did. Although part of the jacket is nice and loose (this is not a tight, form fitting jacket), the very bottom of the jacket has a non-stretchy hem that I think is basically the limiting factor as far as sizing goes. If I had ordered a medium, the rest of the jacket would have fit tighter but the hem itself would have been too small. You can always cinch it smaller, too, with the drawstrings that are included on it.
Overall, I love this fleece. Nice, soft, warm enough for cool fall weather, and adorable as well. I want to buy another one in a different color!
This is my 3rd Denali jacket and I love it! I bought the 1st one in 2002, and it is still in great condition, as is the 2nd one I bought in 2003. This time I bought the brown color and I love it. Size Small and the fit is perfect (I'm 5'4", 112 lbs). The jacket is very warm - I live in central IL and can wear it throughout the entire winter. Extremely satisfied with Back Country all the way around! Great to do business with.
I love the color- white/alloy gray. I got my first Denali fleece a few years back and still wear it often, and it was the black one in a size medium. However, I think they have slightly changed the style/size because the medium I ordered was a lot smaller than the previous medium. Also, the pockets are more in the front on this one than the previous one. I still like it a lot though and exchanged it for a large and it fits fine.
im 14 yrs old, my height is 5"1, and i weigh about 95 pounds. what size would i get for either a girls or womens jacket in The North Face Denali Fleece? please let me know! thanks
Hi, Kelsi. I'm also 5'1" but I weigh 125 pounds. So....the girls XL would be way too big because that's the size I wear and it's a little big on me. The girl's L would definitely work with room to spare. Or, the Ladies Small.
I only have one complaint with this jacket: it's not windproof or even wind resistant! Other than that, it's a super jacket for around town or hiking. I actually own a kid's XL, since it's cheaper than the women's and it fits (I'm an athletic 5'3"). Good jacket, wish there was are least wind resistance!
I weigh 138 and the large fits much better. I tried a medium on in the store and it was tigher to zipper up. Large give you more room without looking oversized.
I would say a small or medium depending on your proportions. I am 5'1, 120 lbs., 34C, curvy, proportional athletic build, and the XS fits me perfectly. A Small might fit me if I wanted a baggy fit, but it really is way too baggy on me for my style/preference. If you buy TNF jackets to fit well (not baggy), they really give you a flattering silhouette.
I think M would be perfect--I am 5'4" and usually around 140lb or so and a M fits me well, it's a pretty classic fit; although I wear a large just because I like to wear it kind of baggy.
The sizing has changed between this jacket (2007, no vent zippers) and the earlier ones that had the vent zippers along the upper arm, armpits, and upper body. These newer jackets are shorter and tighter. I own both jackets and the new ones are about 1 inch on each side shorter in the shoulder, about 2 inches shorter in jacket length, about 1 inch shorter in sleeve length and the body is smaller (tighter - didn't measure). Still a nice jacket but beware if you are used to the old sizing.
Well, I am 5'1 and 120 pounds, with a curvy, athletic build (and wear a 34C). The XS The North Face products fit me very well, except the sleeves are a tad long. So it sounds like an XS would fit you perfectly! (I find that Small looks/feels big and baggy on me).
LOVE my new Denali jacket! Great product, but then you really can't go wrong with North Face. I requested the 3 day UPS shipping for an additional fee of $9.68. When my jacket didn't arrive on day 3, I was informed by customer service that "3 day shipping" really means "3 nights"...and that means 4 days. Backcountry was good enought to credit my account for the extra shipping charges, but in the future I'll be taking advantage of the "free shipping" on orders over $50. Looking forward to wearing the jacket as the weather forecast includes a WINTER STORM WARNING with MULTIPLE inches of snow...ya gotta love that!
I had a black Denali in high school and college and wore it until it literally started to fall apart. It was wonderful quality and withstood constant washing and wear for years. However, now that I'm a bit older and the Denali had become so popular, I wanted something more streamlined and not quite so common, so I traded up from my second Denali for Patagonia Retro-X which is warmer, cuter, better fitting (think tall & lean) but admittedly not as comfy! North Face just tends to be boxy and I always have to get a large because of my height even though a medium in width is more suitable.
How does the fit of the Denali compare to the Khumbu? I have a Khumbu size large and it fits really well, though the sleeves are a tiny bit long and wide at the cuffs (which doesnt bother me).
I find that I wear the same size in every TNF jacket I have, and even if some of them are cut differently, they all still look flattering. And I have lots of them!
i give it 5 stars for its compatability and warmth. i bought this fleece for my daughter. she is a college student in boston. she loves it. she can wear it alone, layer it, or zip it into her north face jacket, as it is zip in compatable.
Great Fit, I have 5 of these and plan on purchasing them again. They are stylish, warm and comfy...MUST HAVE...If this is your first time purchasing this jacket, do not hesitate!!
Yeah, I agree with CB. When I am trying to choose between black and white, I always keep in mind that white is better for an all season jacket, but it does get dirty fast!
Definitely white. Black is overdone. You can't go wrong with a Denali, and that white is Very Chic. ---------------------------------white will probably be better considering the changing of seasons, it wont soak up all the sun if you want to wear it in the the spring/summer...but its harder to keep clean. black is the classic, and will be much better for any outdoor activities, but if you are getting it just for looks then white is fine
I absolutely love this jacket. I wasn't sure how bulky it would be but it isn't bulky at all and it is super comfortable, warm, and looks great. I highly recommend this jacket. I got it in black (large -I'm 5'10 and usually wear a 10/12). I had another fleece jacket and it was like wearing a thin sheet compared to this jacket. I have worn it on cold days (28 degrees fahrenheit) and on warmer days (without zipping up) and it is perfect. It is more expensive than fleece jackets I have purchased in the past but it is worth every penny. I highly recommend.
yeah, the whole jacket picks up dirt and dust and hair and just everything like a vaccum....only up side is that the nylon panels are very easy to clean
I got the jacket for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas. She says it is warm and she wears it everywhere. We even went to Chicago for the day and she never complained about being cold like the rest of us. Highly recommend it.
I love this jacket. At first I was hesitant to buy this because it's so pricey and everyone on my college campus has it, but I'm really glad I got this. The size was kind of strange (I usually purchase clothing in a size medium but the jacket was very loose on the shoulders--so buy a size down) I live in the Sacramento area and got the order within 2 days free shipping!!
never ever ever ever.....thats the old version which is made out of non recycled fabric and is never coming back, sorry, thats why its cheaper...all the colors withought the "R" in the name are gone forever once they have sold out
Got my jacket on standard shipping pretty quickly, great waterproof/repellent material that despite its lightweight appearance keeps me warm through the snow and rainfall. Great selection of colors and quality, the XS fit me perfectly for my 5'1" frame, the sleeves and overall length was not too short or long.
Ok, so I was really excited about this jacket, based on all the wonderful reviews and the fact that people said it was tighter than it used to be. That and I chose the foam green color which looks great online. The jacket, which is more of a tinted white came to me and seemed rather loose. The sleeves were pretty baggy and I felt as though there was a lot more room in it than I would need even if layering. (I'm 5'2", 100lbs and ordered an XS). The material seems great and it does feel cozy so now I am debating keeping it since I got such a great deal from Backcountry.com and using it as a spare, or returning it and getting a children's size in one of the darker greens.... I will have to try it with some layers underneath. Even if it is loose and there's wind I can cinch the waist with the drawstring. I'm beginning to lose faith in TNF products however, and am starting to gear towards Mountain Hardwear since their products seem to fit small frames much better. Perhaps I'm just too small to enjoy TNF which is kind of a bummer.
I am 5'2, 105 lbs. I usually wear a size 0 or 2. I bought and extra small in this jacket and it is tiny! I do not reccomend getting an XS even if you are very petite :( The jacket itself is great quality however and very warm.
This jacket is awesome! Can't live without it especially when it comes down to extreme temperatures. It kept me very warm and comfortable. This is my very first North Face purchase and will definitely get another one of a different kind in the future. Thanks Backcountry for the very prompt service, my package came earlier than expected and will definitely order from your site again.I will also recommend you to my family and friends.
hi i'm 5'6 and 130 pounds. i want a jacket that will fit for years to come but i do not want a bulky jacket, i like things on the tighter side, but not too tight. what size should i get?
I'm regular client of Backcountry, cooperation with Backcountry is revelation !! I love the Backcountry and the best of all jacket on the world - The North Face Denali ! Thank you so much Backcountry !!!!
This is a great jacket. I actually have it in the girls XL (I'm 5'8" and 140 pounds). I originally tried this on in a local sporting goods store in a women's M. I wasn't going to purchase it due to the fit (the body and arms were both too short). However, I decided to try it on in the girls size XL and the fit was MUCH better...sounds backwards, I know. Just an FYI for those who might be able to save a few dollars and order the girls instead of a womens.
My love has the men's version and was raving about it, so I gave it a go. I love it. It is not windproof, but I was plenty warm with two merino wool layers below at just below 10 degrees F, with winds at about 15 mph. I was bummed to discover that there were no vent zips, but it breaths well. I ordered my usual size, and it matched the sizing chart indicators, but it was a little big. I was hoping to use it as a mid layer, but it is working great as a soft shell. Very satisfied nonetheless!
I bought 3 of these jackets. One for each of my daughters. They absolutely LOVE THEM!!!!!! They haven't even considered wearing another jacket for the last 3 weeks. I tried buying one on ebay for myself for less but it was a fake. Beware buying them on ebay. I compared the fake with my daughters from backcountry.com and it didn't even come close to the quality. I will buy from backcountry.com again.
Hey everyone!Do you know where I can get this jacket (North Face Denali Fleece Jacket) in Cream/Off-White?I've seen girls at my school with that color jacket, but I can't find it anywhere online. The chest is a cream/light beige color, and the fleece part of their jackets was a very light cream/off-white color.Could someone tell me where to find this jacket? Thanks!
Ok, gals. I would say that if you want to wear layers underneath, size up one size. I'm 5'1", 120 lbs, and tried both the Small and Medium - the Small is figure-flattering but can't wear much underneath....so, I opted for the Medium. Love the jacket - nice quality and warm. Enjoy!
Just love, love, love it says how I really feel about my new jacket. My first one was white, it was sooo warm walking down on the beach in the winter time, light weight but oh so warm.l I had to have a few more colors. I think I have 4 now. I would love a light pink one next but I see they only come in girls sizes. I found the matching gloves. Back Country had great prices and very quick shipping. I will checking out more things next year! Thanks again
I received the Brownie Denali for Christmas and I find it warm and lightweight. Great for in and out of the car doing errands. My daughter has the same jacket. Machine Washable and very durable.

If you want to put bulky layers under it, get a medium. It will be somewhat loose- I am 5'10" and 140 lbs and I wear a medium, which is a bit roomy on me.
We live in Wisconsin, but we don't usually wear our heavy winter jackets until the temperature gets into the teens. This jacket is perfect for fall and the warmer winter days. My older daughter has had one of these jackets for almost two years. I have had mine for about six months and this one was ordered for my other daughter. We all love our North Face jackets.
This jacket was worth every penny! It's lightweight and super warm. I can wear it in 30 degree weather and keep it on inside and not sweat to death. Perfect for running errands. And as a bonus it's easy to clean (which is a must as a new parent). I plan to buy another one in a different color very soon!

I bought this for my 12 year old girl and she loves it! This is the only jacket I could get her to wear and I am comforted by the fact that I know it will keep her warm. Thank you for your awesome price!
I just got it and the shipping was super fast, even though it was a free shipping! I ordered and XS and the fitting is perfect! Also, I looked cute when I wore it. It can't be any better than this.
My wife has the denali jacket (in jewel blue) and would like the jacket that it can be zipped into. Any idea what that jacket (or shell?) would be called and info on where I can buy it on its own (without having to purchase the triclimate system)?
I bought a TNF shell called the Varius Guide Jacket. The Denali zips in great with it and i've been really happy with the combo. There are two versions of the Varius, one's insulated and one is not so just make sure before you buy.
This jacket is fantastic for all types of weather and the look is so classic with a good pair of jeans. It's too warm for me to run in, but is roomy enough for extra layers for those chilly mornings on my way to class. At 5'5", 115 lbs, I originally purchased a size small, and was a little disappointed with the wide, not-so-form-fitting style. Oddly enough, that jacket was stolen, and I immediately bought a replacement, this time in an x-small. It still tends to run a little boxy, and the sleeves are almost too short, but I still could never live without this jacket. I have black and so far it has worn well with frequent use and washing over the past year. And backcountry is the best place to get yours!
This jacket is WONDERFUL!!! It's not too heavy but is very warm. In my opinion, a perfect jacket. This is my first north face jacket but it won't be my last. I'm now a north face fan for LIFE!!!!
My wife (a very picky jacket person) loved it! thank you so much backcounty for the great holiday pricing and free shipping! you made our holidays perfect! -N
Hey guys,I'm not sure what size to get me and my sister for this jacket. I'm 5'6" and 120 lbs and my sister is 5'4" and 140 lbs. Any suggestions? (I recently got a HyVent DT jacket in small and it's roomy enough for me to wear a sweater underneath. Do the sizes run the same?)Thanks guys!!!
Still the best fleece I own. I have five of these jackets now. I use them heavily. I bought my first one ten years ago. I have never had a problem with it. They are also very warm in a layer situation.
This jacket is still #1 in my book! Its very warm under a layer. The only thing that could make it better is if they came out with pit zips like they used to have in the very first jacket. I have one of those too!
I bought this jacket in the green color and have loved it so far. It's actually sized a little larger than my metropolis parka I think- but fits well for casual days. I love the vibrant color it makes me feel energetic when I wear it. The darker green goes with EVERYTHING and I have the shoes and lots of other TNF in the same colors to coordinate so it's a valuable piece in my wardrobe.... Too bad it's almost summer now!! It'll have to hibernate till September (except for camping trips, etc... of course)> :)
