do these shorts have any kind of mesh or nylon liner?

No, they do not, the only mesh for the pockets, which, there is a secret pocket just below the waist on the back for something flat like cards or a key.

These are great shorts. I sail, kayak, canoe, and swim as much as mother nature allows in New England. The pants hold up great in the water, and dry quickly. I can go all day in the boat (or in the water) then stroll down to the pub in these shorts with out breaking stride.
