Wear The North Face Class V Cargo Trunk next time you're paddling Lava Falls or Big Drop #2—this water short is ready for any river adventure. The North Face made these trunks from quick-drying nylon so you won't have soggy shorts for long when you get out of the boat at the end of the day. Securely store plenty of stuff in the Class V Short's side zippered cargo pockets. To keep your shorts on through the gnarliest rapids, The North Face gave this water trunk an elastic waistband with a built-in nylon webbing belt.
Bottom Line: Go run some rivers in The North Face Class V Cargo Trunk.
I guess people were just tired of looking like Prefontaine. Try the PR short from The North Face, item # TNF3954 or the TNF Agility short- item # TNF2788.
I know a lot of the guys don't like the length, but, for me, it's just right. I wear them around the yard and for casual biking. I was tempted to cut out the mesh marble bag, but actually that's what makes them so easy to wear. I actually bought a second pair so I could rotate them and wear them like underwear and in place of underwear. Wear one pair one day, then throw in the wash. Wear second pair, next day and so on. Great for lake or beach vacation cuz they're all you need by the water or drinking around the pool later. Shorts, t-shirt, flip-flops. Three pieces of clothing is all you need. You can even sleep in the darn things.
Yes...Me again. I had a couple pair of Columbia shorts (very similar) and it seemed the inner liner was, well, not very deep? long? enough room for the package? Fine in the waist, etc. but felt as if putting on a girdle or something. Any similar experience with these TNF shorts? Hopefully not.
Actually, the mesh liner is fairly roomy, and not constricting. Thinking about it, it is probably a little more roomy than similar Columbia shorts that I own. I've worn these shorts for a number of years, and really haven't ever felt too constricted.
Why are all the manufactures dropping inseams that are 7-8 inches in length? Columbia just dropped their Snake River Shorts and replaced them with the insanely long Cascade Creek II shorts that have a 1 1/2 longer inseam.
Both these North Face shorts and Columbia's are worthless for outdoor sports! I don't like pockets down at my knees! And I like sun on my legs. These shorts might be good for your son keeping up appearances in the hood, but they are totally worthless for outdoor sports!
These are my favorite shorts. They stand up to years of use and abuse, and the zippered cargo pockets are very useful. They have a mesh liner, and dry quickly (so I use them a lot when I'm in and out of the water). The web belt allows you to tighten your waist so you don't lose them in the waves (or pool). I wear these for pretty much any activity, although on long hikes/backpacking the liner stands a chance of chafing. They seem to fit true-to-size.
Who needs a zipper in the woods? Wore these along with the NF Class V Swim for a week in Roatan, Honduras while diving and dong the Canopy Tour (zip lining thru the jungle tree tops) and they performed beautifully, secure and maintained their fit with the drawstring and the belt. Thanks NF and thanks backcountry. Just put your logo on my auto back window just for this.
NO ZIPPER AS ADVERTISED :-( , MESH LINER TO TIGHT (GREAT WHEN CUT OUT), DO NOT BREATH WELL ...SO HOW COULD THEY BE FOUR STAR SHORTS...INSEAM IS RIGHT ON, WEAR WELL, WASH UP GREAT, BELT AND POCKETS ARE VERY GOOD, LIGHT WEIGHT, PACK AWAY ANYWHERE... :-)
Great. Love 'em. Wear 'em for casual, dress up or actually during work outs. I wear them running, lifting and in the bars. I normally just wad them up and throw them in my bag, but when i pull them out and put them on, they look terrific. I haven't worn them with a tie, but if i ever buy a tie, i might.
My husband is in love with these shorts and wants to wear nothing else. They are also wearing and washing like iron. I will definitely be getting him some more of these.

You are 100% correct.
They don't make shorts for hiking anymore, just for the hood.
