The North Face Cipher Windstopper Jacket - Women's

Pull on The North Face Women’s Cipher Windstopper Jacket for long alpine rock routes, windy day hikes, or backpacking in dry conditions. This lightweight softshell features Gore Windstopper Soft Shell fabric to block the cold wind from ruining your day. In fact, this jacket does such a good job at blocking the wind without hindering movement that Outside Magazine awarded it a Gear of the Year award. Apex stretch panel on the hood and underarms increase stretch, and the high alpine pockets can be accessed while wearing your harness.

Bottom Line: Windproof stretch for blustery alpine conditions.

Multi-sport, Multi-weather jacket

This is an amazingly versatile and light, packable jacket that protects you/ and is lightly resistant to quite a few of the elements- wind, cold, light rain/snow..functions well as an outerlayer for hiking, climbing, mountaineering, running, and spring skiing. Great playful colors and design with a nice extra light hood piece, well placed front pockets, and strong velcro tabs for wrist cinching. Excellent fabric and cut for ease of movement.

I'm 5'8 and athletic build and the women's medium is a perfect fit. The Cipher makes for an excellent layering piece and it is the perfect weight material for its functions.

Write your question here...I tried on both the medium and the large sizes. The large feels a bit too big and the medium is a little snug on the torso and the arms are pretty much perfect. Which should I choose? How is this jacket supposed to fit?

Yeah I would go with a medium because generally you don't need to do too much layering under a softshell. It is made more for warmer weather and light rain or wind, not winter conditions.

Well if you have tried on both sizes then you know how it fits on you for sure then. So I would just go with what works best for you. Sounds like out of the two different sizes the M seems to fit the best so that is what i would recommend.

Feels true to fit and blocks wind very well

I love this jacket! I bought it based on a recommendation from a friend before camping in a national park a couple weeks ago. With winds gusting up to 40+ miles an hour I stayed relatively warm. Does not insulate from cold but blocks the wind very well. Fit was true to size as well- very comfortable and flexible for hiking and other outdoor activities.

great windstopper

This is a great windstopper jacket for hikes. Hiked Wheeler Peak in NV with this jacket, and it kept me perfectly warm and did a great job at blocking out even the worst wind. Not so great for winter conditions, but that's also not what it's designed for. Definitely recommend this!
