The North Face Blackhawk Down Jacket - Men's - 2008
Should your helicopter land you in the middle of a storm-filled battleground, you’ll be relieved you’re wearing The North Face Men’s Blackhawk Jacket. The North Face stuffed this ski jacket with 550-fill down for cozy warmth in freezing temps. This jacket features HyVent waterproof breathable fabric and a removable hood for defense against incoming snow along with a waist gaiter that shields you from powdery white shrapnel. Shoulder vents on the Blackhawk let you cool off after you make your escape down the steep-and-deep. Plenty of pockets hold your communication devices and eye protection.
Bottom Line: Rely on the Blackhawk when weather gets sketchy.
TNF named a jacket after a military operation that resulted in images of dead American soldiers being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu?! Classy!
Blackhawk wasn't an operation, it is the name of a helicopter. The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk. Nothing to do with the movie Blackhawk Down, which depicts the operation you mention. That operation was simply known as "The battle of Mogidishu."
Blackhawk is the name of the Jacket. The "Down" is simply the filling. So its not a "Blackhawk Down" Jacket.... but a "Blackhawk - Down Jacket."
Named after the Helicopter, not the Battle of Mogidishu.
i guess they did------------------Ever think that maybe it's named after the Blackhawk and it's a down jacket? The operation wasn't called Blackhawk Down, that was the name of the book and then the movie. The operation was part of Operation Gothic Snake and the military still calls it the Battle of Mogadishu.
Hey Great Jacket, but just a heads up. I was about to purchase this Jacket from backcountry for $388 until I found the same Jacket on the Trails.com Store for $349 plus 20% off to bring the total to $280 I saved myself over $100. It pays to shop around and I wonder why such a big price difference.
my shirt size is a medium and that fits me perfect, so should i get a small or a medium size of this jacket??? btw i ordered the dolomite jacket in a large and it was way too big on me (sleeves and especially the width around my waist) so i returned it
This is a fantastic jacket...but sizing runs a very large. I'm 5'11"/217 w/ "linebacker" build; I ordered an XL and I was expecting for it to be a little loose on me...however I was swimming in it...bummer! I think a large would have been perfect for me (none in stock). Overall quality of jacket was exceptional...very rugged, functional and very warm. The removable hood seemed a little ackward though. Overall, a great deal if you can dial in the right size!
When i ordered my jacket yesterday the pic on this site showed a fur trimmed hood, i am still receiving the hood trim correct, because its not the same picture today?
Was in the arctic snow machining and walking around. jacket kept me very warm! i walk around home in alaska when its -40 degrees and i stay warm. its pretty hard core. Just a note- the price that was on the tag was for $349 not $388 so make sure backcountry doesn't charg e you full price. just tell them and they well correct everything. very good customer service! awesome jacket buy it if you got the money!
You need a picture of the fur hood rim! laugh all you want, but I'm a big fan, that and the down are major reason why I purchased it. Also the above comment is BS about trails.com having if for $280. NOT TRUE. I actually bought this jacket from here for $311 and will hopefully receive it by tomorrow (2nd delivery. I was going to keep my old jacket, but at that price point i couldn't say no.
1) I'm 6'1" and average build... the jacket could be a little longer to cover my rear end a bit more. 2) The hood is just a little smaller than I'd like. 3) No hand warmer pockets (there are many excellent pockets, but the only waist level pockets are zippered). Just a nice to have feature in my book.
Overall a really great piece of gear. Some great attention to detail despite my comments above. And very warm.
