I work in extreme conditions, from the heat of Death Valley to the cold of Antarctica. I am constantly looking for better gear to keep up with the conditions. I purchased The North Face Baltoro HV1000 on a recommendation from a friend who recently had a good experience with the product during a month on a frozen lake in Poland. I was not disappointed. I have used Sorels in the past but found they just didn't keep my feet warm and comfortable all day. The Baltoros worked great; I was in subzero conditions most of the time for 10 days straight. The only drawback that I found was that if you are going to wear them consistently day after day, I found it very important to completely dry them out at night. If not, they are a little frigid for about an hour or two in the morning, but then they warm right up for the rest of the day.

Here in northern Maine where temperatures often go as low as -80 with the wind chill factor, it's important to have a boot that can withstand a few hours in the frigid clime. Living in a rural area, I have to snowblow and shovel to get from my house to the street. These boots have been lifesavers as far as keeping my toes from freezing while allowing enough breathing inside the boot to keep the rest of the foot from sweating. A very well-balanced and well-made boot. Well worth every penny I paid for them. Thanks!

Temps in the negative singles, winds at or above 75 mph, 9 hours shin deep in snow on the slopes of Mount Washington in February -- No worries. My partner for that particular trip was incredibly slow and I spent a lot of time cooling off while waiting for him to catch up, but my feet were never anything but warm all the way to the summit.

I loved the boot and bought it half a size larger as I understood they ran small, but the boot was just too narrow for my foot and I didn't feel I could go in a larger size as the half size larger was already too long for my foot.

Overall these boots are not bad. I work on ice daily at a bobsled track and they are fairly warm and have allowed no water to permeate. Before I bought the boot I really liked the fit, but after two days use I had some mean blisters- one was more like a laceration! The boot may not be ideal for a wide foot. My criticism is not absolutely fair because it is a matter of foot size as much as shoe design. Also, I am not a big fan of the plastic lace hooks, a couple of mine are difficult to get the laces through, but they may bend outward after more use. Again, if you feel comfortable with the fit don't let me scare you, this is still a decent boot.
