The North Face Women's Aviatrix Down Jacket combines a bomber-jacket style with big-mountain features like a HyVent shell and 600-fill insulation. An internal media pocket holds your MP3 player, so you can rock out to the Top Gun soundtrack when you're ripping. Thanks to the extra insulation provided by this jacket, you'll stay nice and toasty while all your friends shiver on the lift. The North Face also made the hood's faux fur lining removable for the times when you don't want the full-on bomber style.
How warm is this jacket? Will it only keep you warm when you're actively snowboarding or will it play double duty for, say, walking along Lake Michigan in the Chicago winter??
Great quality...I wouldn't expect anything less from North Face. The pockets are plentiful to store away chapstick, phone, camera, etc. Jacket sleeves are very long which are perfect for my arms, but if you have shorter arms, keep that in mind. Love the length!! This jacket is a shorter length; the Hyvent falls below the waist and the nylon lining at the bottom at least covers the belt line. I love that it is a WARM winter jacket that still shows of my figure! I bought the nightsky blue and love the color! Last thing...it is definently roomy enough to wear over another layer such as a fleece. Will enjoy this jacket for years to come.
The fabric itself is waterproof, but the seams aren't sealed. So the bottom line is that you will stay dry in snow and even really wet snowy conditions. I won't sub as a rain shell in a down pour, but it will keep you dry in anything else..
I bought the midnight blue jacket and the picture didn't show it, but the seams are stitched in white. At first I wasn't a fan, however, it has grown on me and I actually really like it. The fitting runs slightly snug, so be sure to know your size and whether or not you may need a larger size, especially if you plan to layer-up under the coat.
I've never had a down coat and after reading a lot of reviews, some have explained that the quilted stitching keeps the down from moving downward over time. This coat doesn't have that quilted design, so is downward movement of the down going to be a problem? And does the black have white stitching like the nightsky blue?
This jacket is constructed a little differently than your traditional "puffy" down jacket. It still has baffles that keep the down from shifting around- they just don't go through the the exterior face fabric. Yes - the black does have contrast stitching.
Nobody mention about the white stitching that runs all over the jacket, the photo on web DO NOT show this.I hate the board white stitches on the shoulder & across the back.i bought Nightsky Blue & the stitches stands OUT.Yes its a very warm jacket & Yes its very short...making it look puffy not like the picture.
i brought M size it measures from the back of my neck to the bottom 25 inch.IF i pull it Down it reaches my belt line nice! But when u move it runs up & u have to keep pulling it down
Cute, but here is this white stitching that runs all over the jacket that does not show in the pictures, even when you zoom in on the picture. I do not like the stitching at all. It makes it look cheap.
Ok, it's "trustworthy", first of all. And yes. This is Backcountry.com, the biggest outdoor gear retailer on the Internet. They sponsor dozens of pro athletes, sell any gear brand you can think of (including exclusive North American distribution of several European brands), and have the best return policy in the business, hands down. They have almost 52,000 registered customers (That's just the registered ones) and the best prices around. Shipping is free for purchases of above $50, customer service takes the form of a 24 hour Live Chat feature, where you can ask questions in real time, any time of night, to a real person in the warehouse in Salt Lake City who will go get the item you're asking about so they can tell you whatever you need to know. If they ship you an item that is flawed or defective, they will pay for return shipping and send you a new one before the old one even gets back to the warehouse. Plus they have even more and sometimes better deals on their sister sites, Steep and Cheap, Tramdock, Chainlove, Whiskey Militia, Dogfunk, and Backcountry Outlet. There is no reason to buy anywhere else. Ever.
This is a great coat for casual and around town wear here in Alaska. I wear it when I walk the dog, go ice skating, go out on the town, etc. It is a cute pocket of warmth in an otherwise cold, dark world. I wouldn't wear it for snowboarding because it lacks technical attributes such as length, a powder skirt, or pit zips...
I wore it skiing in 10 degree weather and was warm! I think it is very cute on, it is a little short for skiing if you fall alot, but it worked great for me. Good buy!
I love the jacket; very warm! I don't like that it's a "tight fitting coat"-even in a large. Description never said it would be a tight coat. Otherwise, love the coat-super cute!
I'd say a medium because its not the longest coat out there and it would be a bummer for it to ride up there or in the arms. Also, would you layer? Medium should be spot on.
I was concerned with a couple reviews saying it's short. Well my daughter is fairly long bodied and it seems to fit her just right within the style she is wearing these days. Not too short. Can't wait to hear what she says after we go skiing but I imagine it will be as warm as others say. Our only problem with the jacket was a miss stitching on the breast pocket. There was about a one inch whole in the pocket that I had to sew. It was simply a poor stitching job. If there's gonna be a problem that was an easy one to fix myself.
This coat Isn't too functional because of the length but most women buy it because of the aesthetics of it. Somewhere in this mix is a need to deliberate form and function...or just buy a new coat.
The jacket feels well insulated and looks nice, but it is extremely short. I know I have the correct size because the sleeves fit well but the bottom doesn't come close to reaching my waist. You might want to check it out at the store before ordering online.
I am 5'9", and the jacket at least covers my belt line (wearing low rise jeans). You may still have instances of having to pull it down, particularly if you are bending down to pick up something up per say; but personally I would rather that as I prefer jackets that do not hinder my movement around the waist area such as jackets that fall below the bum. Hope that helps; Good luck with your jacket search.
