When the weather turns particularly nasty in your Northeast city, zip up The North Face Women’s Atlantic Jacket. The North Face insulated the Atlantic with 550-fill down and waterproofed it so you stay cozy during the squall. The removable faux fur trim on the hood and a waist-belt lend this trench coat urban style.
Bottom Line: When storms rage on the Atlantic Coast, pull on this warm, waterproof jacket.
Does this coat fit similarly to the arctic parka? In the parka i needed a small, will it be the same for the atlantic, also will it be just as warm as the parka, i want the atlantic because its a little shorter but do not want to forgo the length. HELP!
Hello - here is my take on these two jackets. The sizing is going to be similar- if you are going with a small in the Atlantic, than I would go small in the Arctic. They are both very warm jackets for harsh winters, but due to the extra length in the Arctic, it will be the warmer of the two.
Although I haven't been able to test out how warm this coat is since I ordered it in April, I'm pretty sure it will be plenty warm. My one complaint is that it makes me look like a marshmallow, which I was hoping to avoid with the little belt. I'm 5'3'' and 108 lbs. and even though I ordered an extra small, it just swallows me up. Oh, well. I'm sure once I start using it for warmth when I move to Boston that I won't care about being fashionable.
I own this jacket since the moment it was launched... It's great Jacket, one of the best on the market! It so warm! I wear it all the time when temperature goes below 30F. It's completely wind- and waterproof, fit is great and comfortable. I'm 4'11" and 99 lbs and i got it in XS. This jacket worths every penny spent. I don't need and i don't look for anything better than this jacket for NY winter. FYI i give the ACTUAL measurements for this jacket in sz Extra Small (XS): Armpit to Armpit - 19 1/2"; Length (back) - 26" Sleeve's Length fron Armpit to Hem - 22 1/2" Length from collar line to Waistline - 15 1/2".
hello, im 5'4 and 112 pounds i was wonderin what size would siut me best since i plan to have this jacket for 3 more years and im still growing(14 yrs old) and want to stuff jackets under it....would an xsmall be to small?? and i was wonderin how long you think the sale will last???? plz help me!
if you want a little room to grow go with the small. also, i find if i want to layer a bit it is more comfy around the neck when i get it just a little bigger...
Does anyone know whether or not the white is prone to getting very dirty? If so, how easily cleaned is it? Also...is the blue close to a denim color? Can it be worn with jeans without looking akward?
i agree with dave. i am a little bit messy, spill my coffee/cocoa combo daily but still roll with the white. it seems this fabrid sheds pretty well. i love the look of the white so i just wear it and generally hope for the best. this will repel dirt and spills and stay white better than most white will. the denim blue is really cute too though.
White is always going to be more difficult to clean than other colors, but synthetic fabrics like on the Atlantic aren't going to absorb as much as other fabircs. I have always found that a lot of stuff can simply be wiped off these types of fabrics without having to wash the jacket. The Denim blue is an awesome color - I think it would go fine with jeans.
i was wondering which size i should choose for the atlantic...small or medium? I'm about 5'2 and 130 lbs and i have the aviatrix jacket in a small that feels uncomfortably snug. It was hard to fit into that jacket when i was layered up.
My wife can't stand being cold, yet we live in northern Minnesota. She finally allowed me to find her a jacket base on specs not looks or price. She LOVES the Atlantic. She love the hood because, even when it's not up,it helps keep her neck warm. The velcro cuffs prevent snow from getting in her sleeve or gloves when brushing snow off the car. The belt has no technical use,but does keep the jacket flattering not bulky. The nylon shell is soft not stiff. It doen't have any core venting, so I can't recommend skiing or snowboarding with it. In general it's a great jacket to cure the common cold...person.
Hi, I am really interested in this coat but I'm stuck on what size to order =/ Im 5'7 and 120lbs, I don't want to be swimming in the coat but I don't want it toooo snug as well. Would a small or medium work best, anyone??
hi there, my best answer would be that I am an exact medium in all their jackets, and I weigh in at 138 and am 5'8. The length of sleeves, waist and cut are all perfect for me at the medium. You may actually be better in a SMALL due to your build, though your height would suggest a medium.
Im wondering about how warm this jacket is, I live in Manitoba and we get temperatures that drop to -50 degrees celsius in the winter, would the jacket be warm enough??
Hi Maha. You Manitobians are crazy. Here in Alberta it only gets to -40. You should join us for a balmy weekend in January some time.
The truth is that few jackets will keep you comfortable at -50, but lots of jackets will keep you alive. This one will definitely do the latter. With proper layering under the jacket and on your legs, you might even be able to shovel the driveway with this baby on. It is one of the warmest jackets TNF makes. My brother has the men's version and loves it. It kept him relatively warm when winter camping at -34.
I normally wear a size small in TNF jackets (I have the Furallure Tweed in a S) but got this one in a medium to accomodate all the jackets I wear with my work outfits in the winter. In that respect, the medium has plenty of room. However, the M also made me look extra puffy and big which is NOT the look I was going for. Only other complaint is that the exterior fabric picks up a bit of lint which is noticeable on the Ink Blue color (more of a gray-navy). This jacket is definitely warm, though, and will do the job well when temps get into the single digits. The belt around the midsection is quite slimming I think and the fur hood is awesome looking. Just make sure you don't buy it too large or you'll look too puffy! :-)
im 14 years old 5'5 and 120 pounds, i want to have the jacket for a couple years to come. but, the jacket i want comes in only xs, would that be too small to wear clothes underneath and to wear for 3 more winters?
I think you're running a risk with XS for 3 years with clothes underneath. The North Face Atlantic Jacket is available in Ink Blue S, I'd go with that! Cheers.
Got this Jacket 4 days ago it has been -20 F and windy almost ever since. This jacket kept me warm!!!! I was amazed! I am a first time buyer of North Face and won't buy anything else.
I'm 5'11 slim build... do you think the jacket will be long enough to cover my torso, and if the sleeves will be long enough? How long is the Med jacket? Thanks!!.
I bought The North Face Atlantic jacket a couple of years ago and I LOVE it! I'm always cold, but this jacket keeps me toasty warm. Even while skiing and I don't even layer up underneath it. And it's perfect for wearing around town as well. Can't go wrong with this jacket!!!
Write your question here... I can't really tell how long it is . . . I'd like to find a ski jacket that covers by tush. Would this one? I'm a size 6 in most items - should I order an S or M?
This won't completely cover the tushy but just about! As far as sizing, if you want a little room to wiggle I would say go with the medium. If you want it fairly snug run the small.Hope that helps.
I am 5'10 and thin. I wear a 27 in jeans or a 2 in dresses. I'm kind of stuck between sizes. Should I get the medium and just look larger or get the small? Does anyone know the specs on the sleeve lengths (armpit to wrist)? Thanks in advance!
It also depends on your hip and chest measurements. I am guessing you are on the small side in both of those in which case a small should be okay. The only worry would be if you have long arms. Then I would say a medium.
I just received this jacket in the mail yesterday.. seems like it will pick up lint rather quickly. I have a Furallure Tweed coat from last season which by comparison is a little "slicker" and I haven't had any problems with that one, even with sweaters that shed. The internal lining of the Atlantic is slick, though.
Is the sizing true to size ? I have a North face medium shell jacket that fits me, a little tight over the hips if I am wearing a heavy sweater. I usually wear a size 10 but my hips are probably between a 10 and 12 at present. I don't like to have a jacket too large on the shoulders as I have a narrow back, but I need the width over my hips. Do you think the medium size in the Atlantic will be the right size? Thank you.
I do think the medium will be best for you with the given information. My wife is a 10 right now but has slightly bigger than 10 hips so she's faced with the same challenge and the medium fits her very well.
30.5"My wife tried the on arctic but,it was really hard to zip up. Look at the photos. The zipper is down past your knees. Now imagine getting in and out of a car. If you live in a metro area and bus or walk then go Arctic. For comfort without being combersome go Atlantic.I bought both -this one and arctic. Kept the arctic. I'm 5'3", zipper starts past thighs which eventually works. Getting in and out of cars is what you want -you want it past your butt - it's a car coat. So if your short it goes to bottom of thighs, XL The Atlantic was the middle of my butt - XL Too short.
The jacket was a Christmas gift. I thought I was ordering one like the one I already have but upon arrival I noticed the belt and pockets were different. Once I saw it I knew I would be ordering another one for myself.
This is technically a 1/2 belt right? I've see on other sites this jacket as well as the greenland and the belts are different. There is elastic 'scrunching' in the back.
Is this the longest jacket available, ie, past the hips, mid butt or to the butt lengh? What is the jacket- down or otherwise -that goes that long or longer? (not ankle lengh)
Nevermind -i've answered my own question. It went on me to the middle of my butt XL. I chose the Artic instead. Slightly different but still not a 'puffy' jacket', has hood.
Yes! I wear mine for skiing as well as everyday use. I'm very small in frame and am always cold. This jacket keeps me warm while skiing and I don't even layer up underneath it. Warmest jacket I've ever bought!
Could I use this as a ski jacket on the rare occasion that I go skiing? And, I have seen other North Face jackets in ink blu and this seems like a much lighter blue, or is it just the picture? In person the ink blu is much darker.
Can't help you with the color (I'm colorblind) but it'll work just fine for skiing. It's warm, it's waterproof, and it's North Face. It doesn't have a powder skirt, and it's of a style that most serious skiers equate with Aspen cougars with too much money, but if you like it then go for it.
I was surprised this Christmas with the North face atlantic jacket and I just love it. It's very warm but not real heavy. I would suggest buying this jacket I know I have really enjoyed mine.
Not much but the Atlantic Jacket is technically more waterproof than the Greenland Jacket. The Greenland has a cheap plastic buckle, the Atlantic is metal. the Atlantic shell is also softer and more flattering.
looovvvee this jacket, it is sooo warm. I wore it just over a t-shirt in a freezing weather and I was fine. I am 5'10" 150 lbs and a medium fits me just fine:)))
I am a person who need warm. In fact, I wanted a North pole expedition kind of warm, since my roots are from the Mediterranean I need that kind of warm. The coat is outstanding. Additionally, I was so pleased with Backcountry they are an outstanding organization to purchase from. My sincere thank you to Backcountry. The President of backcountry should know that each and every staff member I spoke to are an asset to his firm. HUGS FROM NEW YORK!
What the internal tag exactly says:"Remove synthetic fur hood trim and hand or mashine wash warm delicate cycle. Air dry only. Use no heat for parka. Mashine was warm separately, do not dry clean. Do not bleach. Tumble dry low".I washed mine about 3-4 times in washing mashine (delicate cycle, cold water) and left dry on air... Nothing bad happend.
I purchased this jacket after reading the reviews. I have long arms and the large fits perfect. I'm not a very small person. This jacket is very warm. I've worn a long sleeve T under the jacket and was warm in cold weather. I would recommend this jacket to anyone wanting to keep warm in the winter.
Hi,I Just would like to know if the jacket is a model of this year. Because, when I shop on Ebay I saw many last years models. Is the interior black???
I am 5' 7'' and wear either a size 8 or 10 and have long arms and thick waist. I like a jacket a little larger so I can wear sweaters, etc.. underneath. What size should I get... Medium or Large... Thanks!
I think for you it should be the Medium. I went to the shopping center to try it .. and I am 5'5, ans for me the small was perfect.Leila: I am also 5'7" with long arms and wear a size 7/8 or 9/10 depending on the cut. I found the medium too small for me. It was very tight and did not allow for a thick sweater or much motion in the arms (although it did zip all the way up and look very form fitting). The large was better in terms of the arm length but much bulkier.
Like the question above, how does this jacket compare to the Greenland jacket? They both look very similar and just going on the pictures of them both, it looks like the neck closure and front pockets on outside of this jacket are the only difference. Thanks
I tried them both on. They seem like they're pretty much the same jacket, this one just has pockets on the chest. It also seemed to fit a little snugger (which is better) along the bottom. I liked the Atlantic better than the Greenland, but I couldn't really tell you why because they seem so similar...
Basically they look the same. The difference are:Atlantic's price is slightly higher;Atlantic has 2 zippered chest pockets (Greenland has none)Atlantic has the metal buckle on the waistband (which is internal, Greenland has outer waistband with plastic buckle);Atlantic has velcro sleeve's adjusters (Greenland has none)
