When you're getting ready to sweat up a storm on the ski hill or hiking trail, zip into The North Face Men's Apex Magic Jacket and stay warm and dry. With its highly breathable softshell fabric, this jacket vents your heat and repels misty rain. The Apex Magic Jacket's durable welded seams give more water-resistance and feel smoother than normal stitched seams, so you stay comfortable as you charge down foggy forest trails. On mild winter ski days, adjust the cuffs, cinch down the hem chord and keep all that fluffy, fresh powder out of the Apex Magic Jacket as you float through the backcountry.
Bottom Line: There are no smoke and mirror tricks with The North Face Apex Magic Jacket—only soft, breathable, stretchy softshell fabric.
I got this jacket as a replacement for my old Denali jacket and it has blown me away. It doesn't allow any water in during long walks to class in the rain and is breathable so you can wear it even when it is mildly warm outside. My favorite part about the jacket is how it fits. I'm kinda a tall guy so finding a jacket that is long enough that doesn't look like a tent is challenging but this jacket does the trick.
Returned the jacket. Had everything I wanted but the FIT. I found that the jacket was very snug under the armpits... even to the extent that the fabric felt like it was cutting into that area. Otherwise nothing but cheers !
Iv'e had it for about 6 months now... It is very comfortable and lightwieght, and it keep me plenty warm skiing when it's in the 40's.. It fits as if it was tailored especially for me... awsome! im 5'10 160lbs.. 40 chest 32 waist i bought it in medium. good sized front breast pockets, waterproof, easily packable in your gearbag, great to layer with under any jacket... get one before i buy them all..
This jacket is well made and looks great. However, The neck is really tight. I ran out of room with a t-neck and a thin sweater. My neck size is 16 inches, so maybe that's an issue. I bought a Cloudveil Serendipity jacket instead and all is good in the world.
I owned the North Face Windstopper Sentinel before purchasing this jacket. The sentinel jacket is very flexible and soft. But it is also a little more hefty. This jacket is rather stiff and thin but it does have some stretch to it. The shell seems very water proof since it feel like elephant hide, but i have yet to experience it. The body of the jacket is somewhat short and bulkier fitting than i expected being that I am skinny. This is comparing it to my sentinel jacket. But the reason I'm not returning it is because I love the hand pockets and this jacket is unbelievably warm. On top of that the many pockets come in handy. The lining material is awesome. It is fully lined with felt and velvet material. The pocket material is also super soft. Lastly, the price at this site is unbeatable. This is a summit series jacket and people notice it. It costs less than the Apex Bionic Jacket.
I would not have paid full price but I got it at basically half price. For that amount, it's a fantastic deal. Pretty rigid fabric, but the so-called "magic seams" (stitchless) keep the jacket from being bulky. It is definitely a snug fit. I have probably a narrower neck than some and the jacket fits just right in that area. I like the close fit. If you want to layer something thick underneath, it probably wouldn't be so comfortable. I plan to use it for bike commuting so it's going to be perfect--breathable but warm. The inside has a nice suede-like feel. Arms are a tad long but not noticeably so. Front of the jacket is shorter than back and works fine for me.
This is a stylish jacket, but the fit is really tight. There was just no way to even wear a sweater under it. But it wasn't warm enough that you could go out in under 45f without some layers.
I have a large The North Face fleece that fits great -- plenty of room -- and this large was too tight, with the sleeves just long enough that there wasn't much point in trying an XL.
It was a real bummer as I'm still looking for the right jacket with a little more room this would have been it.
Your live chat was very helpful as I tried to find a replacement and the return was flawless -- no complaints there.
I returned the jacket the same day I received it. The cut is horrible. I am 5'9" and 150 lbs. The front of the jacket barely came past my belly button. Half of the t-shirt I was wearing underneath showed. It had a nice soft lining and a good fit other wise. But the front of the jacket was incredibly short.
I AM A BORDERLINE LARGE-XL PERSON. 6'0" TALL, 38" WAIST, 42" CHEST, 34" SLEEVE LENGTH AND 17" NECK SIZE. MANY REVIEWERS SAY THIS JACKET IS "TIGHT" FITTING SO I ORDERED AN XL BECAUSE I WANT TO WEAR A LAYER UNDER THIS JACKET THE XL FITS WELL ENOUGH THAT I CAN WEAR IT ALONE OR WITH A LAYER UNDER IT. SLEEVE LENGTH AND WAIST ARE GENEROUS, SHOULDERS ARE FINE AND NECK SIZE IS FINE. I AM SURE THAT A "LARGE" WOULD BE VERY "FORM" FITTING WORN ALONE BUT IF YOU'RE LIKE ME AND YOU WANT THIS JACKET FOR COLD WEATHER LAYERING, GET THE EXTRA-LARGE. I THINK THE PEOPLE THAT REPORT THIS JACKET BEING WAY "TOO" TIGHT MAY BE BUYING THE WRONG SIZE FOR THEMSELVES. THIS IS A "FORM" FITTING GARMENT AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN "ATHLETIC" BUILD AND YOU'RE A BORDERLINE SIZE, YOU PROBABLY SHOULD GO WITH THE NEXT SIZE UP. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
Just purchased an XL size jacket. I am a borderline L-XL size and I wanted to be able to wear a layer under this jacket. Jacket is true to size with the front body length being a little short, the underarms are a little tight and the neck is snug fitting. A large would be for someone who wants a "form" fitting jacket and the XL will let you get a sweatshirt or more under it. I am 6'0" tall, 17" neck, 42" chest and 34" arm length. The XL has acceptable front body length for me, neck is just right and underarms are not too restrictive. So if you are a L and you want a sweet form fitting jacket-order a L. If you are like me(l-XL)and you want to wear a layer or two of clothing underneath this shell jacket, buy an XL.
I guess you could say just a hair smaller than M. I got the M size and it fits fine, not exactly form fitting but close. I can wear a sweater under her. The neck is very snug. I would not say the jacket is too stiff. I live in the windy city and it is great for knocking down wind. It also keeps you dry. I walked for about 5 min. in soaking rain to find my torso still dry. I would recommend the product. The jacket is a little short and comes only to the belt line, that is my only complaint.
I think it is apt to point out that most complaints about the sizing of the jacket are probably due to negligence on the part of the buyer. I went and tried on the different sizes before I bought it at a smashing price, it fits fine. The tight neck is important when it is raining, it keeps the rainwater from soaking you from the top.
The jacket is warm, nice and expensive...Way too freaking tight!!! You cant get more than a t-shirt on under it...Dont even think about a sweatshirt. Needs an inside pocket too... Its like cowboy pants tight.
