The North Face Apex Elixir Softshell Pant - Men's - 2009
Bring The North Face Men’s Apex Elixir Softshell Pant for your ascent of Mount Whitney. These softshell pants feature The North Face’s most-breathable softshell fabric, so you won’t sweat to death during fast-paced hikes or Elvis-leg-inducing climbs. In addition, this fabric fends off moisture and resists the wind (permeability of 10 CFM), so when conditions deteriorate, you’ll be protected. These standard-fit pants also have articulated knees to let you move freely.
Bottom Line: Breathable weather protection for high-altitude pursuits.
Good pants for cool spring hikes,or summer ski mountaineering! The hand pockets came apart after a few months! Instead of glueing the pockets they should stich them!
I am debating whether to get these or the mountain hardwear talus pants. Anyone have experience with both and if so which one would you recommend for hiking through light-moderate weather?
Pants are very comfortable and a great fit but much lighter than I had anticipated. Great for traveling and trekking in moderate weather, I would consider a heavier pant for more severe weather conditions.
Great pants that lasted two weeks of fast changing weather while trekking in Patagonia. Sheds water well and blocks wind. Got soaked after heavy rains but dried fast.
Thanks Cyrus. I should know better - looking for summer pants in winter. Hmm, the problem with living in opposite seasons can be a problem and living in a Third World environment can be difficult attempting to find decent gear that lasts.
The Elixir Pant isn't a winter pant. It is one of the lightest softshell fabrics that TNF uses. I agree that it wouldn't be my first choice for 95 degree temps, but this is by no means a winter weight softshell.
Write your question here...These pants look great....the question is if they will be too uncomfortable for high day temperatures around 95f. I live in South Africa and hike a lot even at night when the temperatures can drop considerably. I am looking for a pair of pants that can be versatile.....
95 degrees! oh my god stay away from these!...try some convertable pants, these pants are breathable but not magical :-) they are still made for moderate to bad weather and you will be roasting big time
