The North Face Apex Bionic Hooded Jacket - Men's - 2008
The North Face Men's Apex Bionic Hooded Jacket flexes its mojo whether you're tearing up some spring corn snow or hoofing it through the Windy City. The stretchy Apex ClimateBlock fabric blocks 100% of wind for full-on protection and effective water resistance. The light fleece backing adds additional warmth, and the adjustable cuffs, attached hood, and hem cinch cord seal you off from the elements when things get nasty.
Bottom Line: Versatile style and function from the city to the mountains.
This is my new favorite jacket ever. Perfect for cool, wind, light rain. It has a slim fit - not too much extra around the middle, and it's long sleeves really are... long. I'm 6'3" 185lbs and got the Large. It fits perfectly. I sometimes wish it had a small zip pocket on the chest for a phone or ipod but sometimes simple is best.
Buying a http://www.backcountry.com/store/COL1592/Columbia-Double-Whammy-Jacket-Mens.html will this jacket work as an inner lining [zip in] if not i know i can wear it under.
I've had this jackewt for 3 weeks allready, and i took it cold mexican weather and it took care of me great!, the hood can be a drag in times.. but not big of a problem, good wind resistence, and water ha! it's a shield!
I have a Marmot Genesis that appears to be similar to this jacket. The hood on the Marmot is huge! Is the hood on the Apex Bionic more of a normal size?
this is a water resistant jacket, meaning if you fall you will be moist. You will want a hard shell for anything involving snow...this is a good everyday jacket or under hard shell jacket
I work in the very most remote corner of Alaska from Cape Lisburne to Kaktovik and a few places in between. I see every possible weather pattern and even some anomalies. This jacket lets me layer what I need to fight off -55 degree killer cold or hike the beaches looking for Ivory at 55 degrees. I will wear this sucker out. It even looks good when I go to Anchorage for a beer.
I love this jacket, it is great for windy, wet days, if it isn't too cold. Layers are definitely needed if it gets below 20 degrees. I would like to see an inner pocket, or a chest pocket. Thanks to Backcountry and UPS for getting it to me in two days for free!!
This guy is only rain resistant, not "proof."--------------------------------in the rain this will keep YOU almost completley dry...but as for the jacket, it might as well be a sponge...the top layer gets soaked but water never actually penetrates all the way through
Is there any particular reason that this isn't as popular as the non-hooded version of the apex bionic? Also, I'm around 5'11 and a slim 140 lbs, would a medium probably be best if I decide to go with this?
Plus, this hooded version of the Apex Bionic Jacket- Men's is new to the TNF Apex line-up. Not that many people even know the Hooded Apex Bionic even exists... yet!___________________________Also, the non-hooded version has a chest pocket. That might play a factor for some people.----------------------------yeah a small would probably be too short, and hey i would rather buy this than the regular one but all i can ever find are like xls, and xxls...thats why i have 2 regular bionic jackets :-)
It was a Christmas gift for my son who wants to stay warm and dry in his college town. He absolutely loves it and he definitely loves the hood. Let's watch and see if they make any more functional additions to this jacket.By the way, service at Backcountry is the best.
No. It's designed with aerobic activity in mind. It's great for spring or fall when your working hard, but its definitely not a winter jacket. I got a Mountain Hardwear Alchemy and it worked really well. Find a jacket that has some Polartec in it.
This hooded apex jacket just launched which is probably why there isn't as much coverage as the regular apex sans hood. My boyfriend swears by the apex coat because of it's warmth and he's a baby (I'm from WI), but now that the hooded version has come out this season, it's on his list. So wait a little bit and I'm sure you'll start to see more coverage on it once people realized it's out there.
I work on a remote island at the western tip of the Aleutian chain in Alaska and this jacket is fantastic in moderate rain, even with driving winds. If you want to see why I wear this jacket year round just Google the word Shemya and see for yourself...this jacket rocks!
