The North Face Amplitude Triclimate Jacket - Men's - 2008
Zip up The North Face Men's Amplitude Triclimate Jacket when the mercury's frozen, but you're determined to get out there anyway. This 3-in-1 jacket's waterproof, seam-sealed HyVent shell features a quilted Heatseeker-insulated liner that offers stellar warmth without the bulk. If the temps have a change of heart and the day warms up, take off the removable hood, bust open the pit vents and enjoy the afternoon.
Ended up having to send it back because the sleeves were to short. My son's measurements fell within the Large size but when he put it on the body length was a little short as well as the arm length. Great communication with the BackCountry staff and decided to get an x-large in another jacket. XL was not available in the one I originally purchased. He is 6" tall and weighs approx 180 and should wear a large by measurement??? The quality of the jacket looks great and the staff is fantastic I am looking forward to the other coat getting here.
I bought this to replace my Columbia Bugaboo Jacket, that I had for 10 years. Hopefully this jacket will last just as long. So far the jacket is working out great, it kept me warm all last winter. My only complaint is that the hood is not a hide away.
Well, I've been going back and forth between Columbia's 3 in 1 jackets and TNF's Triclimates and it's the 270g microfleece vs the heatseeker insulants. I'm just curious on how warm the heatseeker insulant is compared to the 270 microfleece that Columbia offers on their Blade Run and Treeline Parkas. Assuming that all you wear is a T-Shirt underneath, what's the comfort zone of those jackets, the Amplitude, and if possible, the other 2 jackets/parkas. Thanks.
With the recent cold snap in NY + the snow, I've been shoveling in the low teens with the Amplitude, t-shirt jeans, and a hat and have actually had to open the pit zips because I was too warm. I like cold much more then heat though, so my comfort zone may be lower then yours.
Overall, a wonderful jacket, but there are a few design flaws.
First off, the velcro on the sleeves of the outer shell makes the cuff fit and feel a bit awkward, but I got used to this after just a few wears.
The arm length on the insulated layer is a bit short (I'm 6'1" and purchased the XL) while the outer shell is just a hair too long.
The hood is quite massive, and I am glad it is removable. I only attach it when I know for sure I'll be out in wet weather.
When used in combination, the jacket is incredibly warm without being bulky, and the HUGE pit zips kept me from being too warm on long treks in snowfall.
The outer shell is also fantastic in the wind. I wore it around town on a recent trip to Chicago, and I could not have been more pleased with its performance.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase, and if North Face ever works out the minor kinks, I'd definitely buy another one.
had a good fit, not too long, pockets have good space, the inside jacket is very thin but it has been keeping me warm and dry. Just got it yesterday and today it is 10% OFF, cause i bought the last black L they wouldn't even credit me the difference. i wish BACK COUNTRY would take a better look at taking care of their customers. Over $20 to keep a loyal customer happy would be nice.
1) Is this jacket appropiate for mid-altitude (+4500 mts) hiking?2) Does it has a hood? If it has, is it removable?3) I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Have you got shipping service? Thanks!
Jacket fits, looks and works in every way imaginable. This jacket is highly flexible. Ive used it for hiking in freezing rain, and snowboarding. whenever i wear it im always comfortable. It does well in very cold temps and it was also comfortable to wear when afternoon temps got into the 40's on the mountain by stripping off a few under layers. It does pick up some dust, pet hair easily but otherwise its very durable, highly cleanable and very tough. I went sliding down ice while snowboarding several times the jacket holds up like a champ. It stops wind and moisture from getting to your core.
Ive owned it now for about 3 months, not sure how i lived without one. Im 5'11" 180lbs. and the Large size fits me very well, plenty of room for movement.
I wanted to have enough time wearing this to really give a good review. So I've been wearing it on a daily basis for over 2 months now, and love it. Couple of size specs, I'm 6'1", 200 lbs, 42" chest, 31" waist, 34/35 arm got a large and it fits fine. Overall quality has been great. It's kept me warm and dry while it was raining in the mid 30's, kept me warm in -20 windchill( i did have a patagonia baselayer underneath), and the shell is great as just a rainjacket/windbreaker with the liner removed. It also breathes great, no clamminess here!
On the other hand, the liner really doesn't look "right" if you tried to wear it as a standalone jacket, but i don't plan on doing that. On a plus side the liner zips are pretty standardized, so I can put my columbia fleece in as a liner if i want, as well as other TNF fleeces/jackets.
I do notice the texture of the hyvent makes it show dirt like crazy, but it generally brushes off pretty easily.
Overall, I would definitely buy this jacket again. I've not had any problems and it's absolutely great!
Will this jacket keep me warm around 10 degrees? need serious help. I have a Steep tech and they do no good. i have to wear a sweatshirt and a sweater under it to b warm.
yes the jacket keeps you very warm but i would suggest to wear a long sleeve shirt and maybe a sweater when its cold to be safe but otherwise you shouldn't have to wear 2 sweatshirts to stay warm if you have this jacket. it does a very good job keeping you warm when its cold and windy
I was wondering if the liner of this jacket has elastic wrists or if the wrists don't strecth bc i have a northface liner now without elastic wrists and it isn't very helpful. so if anyone knows that'd be great. thanks.
Don't know what these guys are talking about but I'm 5'11 165 lbs and the Large fits me like a glove. The only way a 5'10 guy would fit a Small is if he's shoulderless with a T-Rex arm. By the way, I love this jacket!!! I have 2 of them.
I'm 5'9, 225 lbs (big in the gut). Should an XL be find. I'm tried other North Face XXLs and they were a bit too long in the sleeve. The XL feels a bit snug on the chest area. Is that normal?
At 6 ft 150 lbs the medium fits a little loose but thats a good thing so I can toss a mens small 100wt fleece underneath. The hood is difficult to adjust and for the price (I paid full) it should be a three way adjustable. It's an active jacket so standing around below freezing it won't make the cut. The shell has an inside pocket thats not accessable with the liner zipped in.
what is the best north face jacket out there i'm a snow boarder an love great looking jackets i work in the film industry in the uk so i wan,t serious water proofing an need warmth
I live in Chicago, so I primarily use the jacket for commuting (walking to bus/train/office). The jacket has done an excellent job with the winter thrown at it so far. Its held up under freezing rain, winds, 6+ inches of snow, and sub-zero temperatures (F). Normally I'm just wearing wool pants, and a dress shirt underneath and the jacket cuts it. Closer to 0, the jacket starts to give a little, but that's understandable given how few layers I'm wearing underneath. Overall, great quality and a good buy. FYI, I'm 5'10", 152 Lbs, the small jacket fits me perfectly
Nice looking jacket but nylon shell isn't of very high quality. Also not sure how severe winter it is rated for. Nylon shell creases pretty bad and is rough. Expected better quality for the high price.
Great jacket! It's crazy warm and dry. Wore it for an hour in the 33 degree rain at work while watching some outside tests and was the only dry guy when we were done. Fits well. Snaps are a little weak where the hood attaches but I took the hood off anyway for now. Lifetime warranty on them so if I have any problems I'll deal with it then. Great customer service...first class. Quick shipping and their prices were far better than other stores. Thanks guys!
Hello, i want to buy this Jacket in Black and Size L,but i live in Germany. What is the Price to ship to Germany and is there a probleme with a tax? How mutch is the Price all together.Frank Siegmann
My husband is 6'1, 180, I ordered a large and it fits him perfectly. You offered the Amplitude Triclimate Jacket $50 less than the others - great price, great website, and fast delivery. Thank you!
I was considering many different manufacturers when I was shopping for a new jacket about a year ago and decided on this one. It is hands down the best jacket I have ever owned. The shell is awesome and dry. I just wore it for 8 hours snowboarding in the rain and did not get wet at all. If you are reading this and seriously considering buying this piece of equipment and would not even look at another jacket. The price is quite reasonable when compared to other 3-in-1's and North Face has been making great stuff for decades. Remember Patrick Swayze's back pack from "Red Dawn"? Bottom line this jacket is great and you will not be disappointed.
SIZED TOO SMALL !! Seems like a great coat, but had to return it because of sizing. When I pay this kind of money for quality clothing, it is usually cut to fit better than cheap clothing.. However, this jacket, priced at over $200, was sized at what one might find at a discount store at 1/4 the price. What a shame, and what a loss to we, the consumers, that you have not yet solved this sizing problem!!! In a case like this, we all lose. Linda C.
anyone wear this coat to work? Im sick of heavy cotton work coats, will one of these last when you brush up against lots of stuff, lift stuff, and every now and than snag on something. I really want to buy one of these but it doesnt seem like its durability is meant for work.
That jacket isn't shabby, but if your doing serious outside work like farm, construction, or shipping/dock work then I personally would go with something like a Carhartt C26 or C03, which incidentally would also be about 1/2 the price even if you purchased the optional hood for either of the Carhartt's.
The Tech Specs say that this jacket has a "zip in liner". I want to know if it is truely a "zip-in" inner layer. I have an older 3-in-1 jacket that has a fleece lining that zips into the shell down the entire front. That is the kind of "zip-in" that I am looking for. I ordered the Tritronix II but it did not have the "zip-in" liner so I returned it. I do not want to go through that again. Please let me know what kind of "zip-in" this jacket has.
It has what you're looking for. You may notice if you look at the Tritronix site that it says "snap-in liner included". It was never supposed to be a zip-in.
It is a very nice jacket, and it is designed very much. The size is perpect, and it is very warm in the cold weather. I like it. But it is a little bit expensive.
I need a coat for snowboarding/skiing. Need to be able to zip out the warm layer for use in warmer weather/rain later. Please adivse. Also need this ASAP, for Christmas.Need for women and men.
i got this to supplement my moonstone goretex 3l jacket which ive used for the past decade and still love to wear. For the price this is a great jacket with the zip in liner, compared to spending nearly $400 on a goretex shell. Although the hyvent material isnt as good as goretex, it's still a great jacket and keeps me warm in frigid temps as well as dry. Just a warning though, the size does run a bit large. I'm 5'6" 175 and there was too much space inside the size large jacket, especially if you take the liner out. I'll be exchanging mine for a medium.
I love this jacket. At first I ordered a size M but when it arrived I felt it was a bit loose. So, I called the guys at Backcountry.com and ordered a size S this time and this is what I wanted. The customer service is simply great. I returned the M size jacket with their prepaid UPS label and was refunded for the first jacket promptly. Great jacket - very comfortable in colder weather. I bought the jacket when it was on 20% sale. So, price was great too!!!
The best thing to do is shoot customer service an email to either see when they're expecting more in, in that color or possibly doing a special order. They'll do everything they can!
I ordered it online and this is my first time to buy a TNF, I am ecstatic. But frankly I don't know how to choose a color since I can't fit it online. I bought a black one. service is very helpful. Thanks.
Does this jacket's liner have a nylon material on the outside? Could you wear the liner as a windbreaker? I just noticed the black sold out in large and XL will any more be in stock soon?
TNF makes their Tri-climate pieces to be used together or by themselves, including the liner. So yes, it could double as a windbreaker. I believe it's Nylon. Might be next year when it comes back...?
My son goes to school in the mtns and needs a warm jacket. He has also signed up for snowboarding and so I'm looking for a jacket that is good for both uses. Is this an appropriate choice?
This three-in-one jacket pairs a waterproof, breathable, HyVent 2L exterior with a removable, insulated liner. Worn together, these jackets provide warmth during any aerobic winter activity. Easily zip-out the interior liner and wear each on less frigid days, or as layering pieces for varied conditions. - Thenorthface.com
No, the liner is quilted Heetseeker synthetic jacket.Heetseeker insulation is the North Faces proprietary synthetic, offering a great warmth-to-weight ratio, is highly compressible, and is extremely durable. However, if you do buy a fleeceTNF jacket, such as the Khumba, it is compatable
