The North Face Allegheny Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic - 2006

A rectangular sleeping bag has the room to move you've only dreamed of while stuffed in a mummy bag. The North Face Allegheny 40-Degree Sleeping Bag can open up for use as a blanket; or you can zip two bags together to make a romantic double bag (as long as you haven't been on trail for two weeks with no showers). The generous cut and synthetic fill, and water-resistant shell fabric, make this a great bag for canoe campers. It will insulate when wet and, though wider than a mummy bag, the Allegheny still packs easily, weighing in at only 2lb 8oz.

Bottom Line: A big, plush bag that's great in summer for canoers and recreational hikers.

Ok for warm weather sleeping

By:

I bought this for cool spring and fall weather. What I like: The roominess of a rectangular bag, its lightweight, and it compacts really well. What I don't like: I was chilled at 55 in t-shirt and shorts. After putting on my driclime windshirt I was a bit warmer but still not that comfortable and we were in a tent Its a good lightweight bag for the warmer months as something to keep the chill away, but I am not trusting it to keep me warm below 50. Given my previous bag was a The North Face and was overrated in its temp but ALOT, I wasn't surprised when I was chilled at 55. Oh well, it was a gift and well, one can't complain too much when something is given to you free.

best sleeping bag i've ever owned

By:

when i go camping i never really bring a lot of fancy camping gear. i don't even own a tent. after almost 20 years i decided to get rid of my old Coleman sleeping bag and i got this. it's great. it packs very small. I'm a big fat guy (6'2 240)and i fit great in it. if comfort is a concern you might want to use a sleeping pad because the bag isn't very fluffy but it still will keep you warm. it dries quickly if you get it soaked also

Allegheny Bag

Haven't had a chance to put them to the test yet but they are good, lightweight, compact bags. My biggest disappointment is the low tech zippers. While zipping two bags together, they got out of alignment and it took a long time to correct the situation. Glad it wasn't raining! Despite that I still stand by The North Face products.
