Leave the office behind and pack The North Face Men's Agency Jacket for your winter mountain vacation. The Agency Jacket's waterproof coating and core ventilation system keep you dry for your snowsport adventures. Once you're on the mountain, regulate your temperature with the underarm and three-zip front venting system to prevent overheating and massive sweat-outs. Pull up the Agency Jacket's removable hood to protect your head from cold winds, and adjust the hook-and-loop closure cuffs to keep snow out of your sleeves. The North Face reinforced critical areas with Kevlar to keep the Agency Jacket durable through your winter seasons. Stash your cell phone in the inner pocket, or leave it behind and enter your own snow world.
Bottom Line: If you do wear the North Face Agency Jacket back to the office, be prepared for hard-core mountain-vacation envy.
Someone said earlier that this jacket does not have any pockets for the hands... is this true? It says so in the description that it does have pockets for the hands so I just want to make sure.
Also, I live in NYC, do you think this jacket alone will be enough to keep me warm in the winter or will I need to layer up underneath?
Hey Jaydee - The Agency jacket does have hand pockets. Regarding warmth, you probably would need to layer with this jacket. Another option that does have insulation in the SteepTech series is The North Face Blackhawk Down II jacket which has 600 fill down insulation. This might be the better choice for staying warm around town. Hope this helps.
But here's the thing: the three-zipper system is awesome while skiing. It's a bit of work, though, in the lodge or in the liftline when you have to go digging for your pass. But forget all that -- this is a jacket for serious skiers who won't spend a lot of time in the lodge. And for us, it's perfect. Just the right heft to the lining for warmth, and I'm sure the seemingly bullet- bomb- and water-proof fabric will last at least as long as the 12 or so years I've had my last North Face jacket. And one other thing - you won't see many -- if any -- of these on other skiers. I totally recommend the Agency.
I'm a medium in all coats i wear, Medium fits me in any brand from jsut right to loose, and i gotta say you got quite abit of room under this in medium. i'm 5'6", I can probally fit a good sweater underneath, if you do the arms would be just right and the body would still be fine, so i suppose it would fit like a large in some points of view. Hope it helps.
Purchased the Agency for use as a ski/snowmobile jacket. USed most recently in Park City Utah, skiing in pseudo blizzard conditions at 20 F. Jacket was warm and comfortable, at times to warm in fact, which made the use of the various venting and opening options nice. Very useable and provided ample range of motion for all of my requirements.
Kevlar up on top of the shoulders is a novelty. Why didn't they put the abrasion resistant fabric somewhere that might receive some abrasion? Insulation is less than the fall jacket I wear around town. The three-zipper system looks good, but is awkward at best. The zippers themselves seem cheap. The cut of the jacket is for fat people. I'm slim and in pretty good shape with a 32" waist, 40" chest, and wide shoulders. I got a Medium. The waist can be cinched in with the weird belt, but that still leaves enough room in the torso for a substantial beer belly. Maybe they were thinking that they need to leave room for the layers you will NEED under this jacket, but even considering that, the shape is still wrong. The abdomen should not be wider then the shoulders. I was really excited about finding a ski jacket that I liked the look of, but I think this one is going back - Definitely not worth the cost.
I think we have snowsports riders versus urban stylers. This jacket was designed for serious snowsports. I understand urban stylers like it, but cry over warmth, kavlar on shoulders. Well if you ski trees in New England you will understand the shoulder protection. This is a ski jacket, designed for serious snow sports. So as a pro skier I like it, and understand it use. The ST line was designed in 80s for founding father of outback and free skiing, not riding on a subway. Yeah it looks cool, but please state if what you are using it for. Remember...serious snowsport folks buy gear for function, safety, and style. So please state if for serious skier, urban style, or rarely used snowsports. This is very important in your review. As a PRO SKIER...this is an Bad ASS piece of GEAR!!!
I had the same problem with the jacket. The arms aren't the length they appear to be at first from the pictures, they are even longer, because the seam for the arms is buried a couple inches inside the jacket, which allows the arms to extend. Sure this allows somewhat more range of motion, but for a person like me with a 39" chest and normal length arms (I bought a medium), it makes you look like you bought a jacket 2 sizes larger than you. This is no exaggeration. If this jacket was available in a small, which I have been informed by NF, is is not and never will be, it may have been a good jacket for me. Otherwise the triple zip front is really a PITA to take off and zip back up, plus you can't leave it half way open, you basically have to remove it completely or zip it at least 3/4 of the way up or else you will look like a peeling onion. Got rid of the jacket and bought the St transformer in small from backcountry, currently on its way. We'll see if that's any better.
Hi there,I was just wondering if this can support skiing under -35C?-35 degre celcius cold....or i need another layer since on a mountain can be very very coldThanks for the help
This jacket is constructed very well. It is extremely durable. The zippers are YKK and seem fine. I purchased a medium. I have a 42 inch chest and a 33 inch waist with wide shoulders. The jacket fit was a little tight with more than a tee shirt on under. The abdomen area was not oversized. I will be returning it for a large. The insulation is perfect and the shell is not penetrated with the forty mile per hour winds in this central new york winter. I feel that the jacket is very agile. The jacket can also be adjusted in several different ways. I have owned a couple North Face summit series shells with gore tex xcr for years and love the performance. I will be wearing this jacket over those from here on out. Dealing with Backcountry on the exchange and help from gear heads is easy and extremely helpful.
I'm seriously considering buying one of these mainly for everyday use but for my "once a year" pilgrimage to the slopes as well. I see that this model has some sort of quilted synthetic lining. What weight fleece would you recommend layering with this for NYC winter days which average around the low 30's upper 20's? Thanks.
I bought this jacket from backcountry, and as always great service from these guys! I'm from California and moved to Minneapolis a few years ago. My jackets and gear I wore in the sierras are just not warm enough for the winters up here and in Colorado( it's F---ing cold inland! but nice snow) Skiing 18 degrees or below temps requires INSULATION..more than the layering you would do while skiing up in the Sierras. This Jacket does it! I'm a huge fan of the steep tech line, staying true to it since the early nineties, I don't wear these to look cool posing in the lift line (I earn alot of my turns). I like the centralized pockets, especially when you have a pack on. I use and abuse my gear ,the kevlar shoulders do a nice job when your hucking gear. And have been really happy with even the latest steep tech gear(Apogee..ect) of the last ten years. The agency jacket has a nice layer of insulation while not feeling bulky, I'll wear this one with pride at my next backcountry trip in the rocky's.
I don't think Backcountry stocks them that big, you can check on Live Chat. You might have to get it straight from TNF.XXl is the biggest they carry, you will have to special order it and backcountry does not do special orders. Like angus said check with TNF.
This jacket is very durable and flexible considering its stats. It holds up to the worst weather and keeps you warm and dry. I recommend this North Face to any who is serious about there gear.
Does the hood tuck away and is hideable? Also as far a a warm jacket everyday use how would you rate this jacket? City Person, in and out of vehicles and also in the weather often
The hood does not tuck away but it unzips and can be put in one of the pockets. The jacket is very warm and the wind does not cut through it. I assume you mean new york city and if so it is very sufficient.
This jacket not only keeps you warm, but it looks awesome. Has 3 zippers for you to change your look up each day. The only negative is no pockets for your hands =[ but thats IT. great jacket.
what is zipper capability , and what is unspecified mean ? im looking at the snorkel 2 apogee down coat as well .(actually , most likely 2 be my choice )
zipper capability means wether a liner can zip into it. if you are buying the apogee down jacket . you probably wont need a liner anyways. it appears to be an extremely warm jacket.
First off gotta say I love the Edward Scissorshands meets Canadian Mountain Holidays styling. This jacket is amazingly durable, exampled by the time I was in Jackson Hole and I showed all those snobby locals my mad skills with a Rodeo Daffy Crotchgrab off of Corbets and I hit the rocks mid-crotchgrab...me: 3 broken ribs, broken nose and shattered humerus, Steep Tech: couple of scuffs and a broken buckle. My only complaint was having to ride the lift at Park City with Tom Cruise who was also in a Black Agency, what a tool....Overall, Great jacket for cruising the cobblestone in Whistler or rocking the Pipe at Alpine Valley Ohio.
