Down vests, while awesome, always made you look like the Michelin Man. That is, until The North Face Men's Aconcagua Vest came along. Luckily, The North Face designed the Men's Aconcagua Vest with warmth and style both in mind. Baffle-stitched 550-fill power down provides light, efficient insulation without puffing you up like a blowfish. The Aconcagua fits easily under trim shells due to its svelte shape, and looks even better over a buttondown shirt or a sweater when you're raking leaves in the yard.
Bottom Line: The Aconcagua Vest has the warmth of down without the airbag silhouette.
this is a sweet vest, slightly less loft than the Nuptse vest so it has a slightly different look, fits great, and is a great layering piece to add on those cold days.
This vest has been great so far. It keeps your core very warm and like the description it has a bit of a slimmer fit so it does not make you look huge. I get a lot of compliments on it.

First off, the vest fulfilled all my expectations: great snug fit, excellent layering item or stand alone, long enough back, with an excellent collar, no Michelin Man here. I am 6' and weigh 185, but I'm a little on the leaner side so I'm in that netherworld of large and medium, which is why I NEVER buy clothes online. I took a chance and bought the large which, of course, was too large. I needed a medium THE NEXT DAY. I took a real leap of faith and used Backcountry's IM live customer service system and had my medium vest the next day! In a world of ever more incompetence I was both surprised and encouraged...some folks are truly doing it right. Thanks!
The North Face Aconcagua down vest has to be the warmest piece of clothing I own. Here in Colorado the weather can change on a dime, this vest is perfect for any conditions that get thrown at me. It's perfect for layering under my shell for a day on the slopes, or to wear over a long sleve on a cold day. It is super lightweight and easily stuffs into a small pouch and takes up very little space in a pack. I wold highly reccomend this vest, it is versitlie and stylish and can be worn on almost any occasion. A++
Typically down will always work its way out somehow in a down anything! You could seam seal to prevent the problem or seam tape. You should never pull them out if they are sticking out because that simply opens the hole to more. You should try to push any feathers back in to the garment.
What is the difference in length of the Men's north Aconcaqua Down vest and the Women's Northface Neptuse down vest? In the past I have purchased men's small northface vests for the extra length. I'm 5'11 and must have a slightly longer torso than most women.
I bought this for layering under a rain jacket, but it's pretty long and puffier than I'd expected. It still does the job and keeps me very warm. I was happy with the lighter fill because I'm pretty warm generally. It also helps to keep my pits dry(er). it even packs down reasonably well inside the chest pocket.
I bought this vest as a present for my boyfriend and he loves it! It fits well without being too bulky. Also, it lives up to the Northface name by being lightweight and extremely warm. I definitly recommend this item.
The guy I bought it for is 6'4" and 230 and the XXL fit him perfectly. I bought the XL first and that fit my husband who is 6'1" 215 perfectly. It looks great, light weight and really nice!
I purchased this vest as a gift. I was very happy with how fast it came. The quality of the vest is up to par with other North Face gear I own. You couldn't beat the price.
The "select options" drop down menu displays all available sizes...Many of the vest posted on BC.com are available in 2X.Check out: http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/100000114/Mens-Vests.html
I am planning on buying this vest as a gift for my boyfriend but I'm unsure what size to get after reading some of the conflicting reviews of it being "slim fit" and "runs big". My boyfriend is 5'11" about 180-185 with broad shoulders and I know he is a 34 around the waist. If I order a Large will it be too big??
This vest is very comfortable and doesn't get in your way. As others have said, it's not too puffy like some vests. I wear it before and after running, kayaking and what not. It's also low enough profile that it's comfortable to wear while sitting in a chair with your laptop. I expect I'll be packing it along next winter for something to put on under a softshell when the going gets cold since it seems to be very stuffable. There are a plethora of pockets which is nice too...and they all zip up!
The North Face Aconcagua down vest is a garment with great style and good performance with super functional as is customary for the brand The North Face. I recommend it shelters and the little place in my bag
i love my north face vest it keep me warm out here in the cold and it's not to puffy like the other northface jackets and the good thing about it i got a deal on it thanks backcountry.
I got this vest in gray because I live in CA, and wanted something to keep me warm during the "winter" without wearing a full-on coat. I was also nervous at first because I didn't want to look like a turtle either. 1. This vest pretty much runs according to size, maybe a little big. I am 6'1, 170 and I got a medium (i like things slim fitting). The fit is perfect. 2. Super warm. 3. I also love how soft it is. Sometimes when you get down jackets, the seams can be a little harsh, or the exterior can feel like a space suit. This one is soft and flexible to the touch. No wooshy sounds when you move (you all know what i'm talking about). 4. The only con is that it's not waterproof...but that's expected for a down vest. I'm going to buy the women's version for my fiance...
Hi I want to buy a navy aconcagua vest but from reading the comments here i dont know whether to purchase the "black" or the basin blue. Can you advise please?
I have a north face vest in black as well as the jacket in black. I think black goes better with pretty much everything a person wears. But that is an opinon... not a fact. Go black.
This item was listed as "black" but I recieved navy blue...twice. Apparently the black vest advertised on the site is actually navy blue. After two exchanges through backcountry a customer service rep explained to me that is just the hue of the vest and it is actually black. But everyone that I showed the vest to immediatly identified it as a blue vest but for some reason this site wants to call it black.
Even though they display it as black and the price tag on jacket says black it is very clearly a navy blue vest. My thought is that there was a mix up in a warehouse somewhere and this site is too careless to correct the problem for some reason. Basically telling me after two exchanges that is the hue of the jacket deal with it.
I bought a black Down Vest and it is Navy Blue. My wife has the same vest in black and when you put them side by side you can clearly tell the vest is not black. I hope to get a refund so I can shop somewhere else.
