The North Face Women's Aconcagua Jacket gives you the warmth and comfort of down without making you feel like an ambulatory marshmallow. The Aconcagua Jacket's nylon ripstop skin and water-resistant finish handles minor flurries and sprinkles, and this down jacket's sleek profile means it can layer under your favorite waterproof shell. A brushed collar eliminates chafing, and The North Face Aconcagua's 550-fill down keeps you cozy and compresses easily for traveling.
Bottom Line: Ward off winter chills with The North Face Aconcagua Jacket.
This is an excellent jacket - very warm for the mild winters we have in Tennessee, great looking and all in all super good deal. I was concerned with size and read all other reviews prior to my purchase. I ended up getting a small since I am 5.5 and weigh 134 lbs. The jacket fits perfectly and I got so many compliments. I highly recommend it.
I scoured the reviews on here to see if anyone was my shape and size, and bought the black in a size small based off other's reviews. I've bought other North Face products in size small, so I figured it was a pretty safe bet. This guess further validated why I don't place bets.
I'm 5'3", around 125 pounds, and a fairly classic hourglass (if not oversized) figure with 32DD chest, 27" waist, and about 35" hips. My experience with the fit? Kind of puffy on in the shoulder/upper arm area, plenty of room in the bust (much to my surprise) and belly, a good mid-booty length, and a slight poof in the middle/upper back if viewed from the side. All around, there was just a little TOO much room in it for me.
And the other details? Love the fabric - it is shiny but not as blindingly high-gloss as I'd almost dreaded to find based on other reviews. Definitely cozy-warm... and I live in Milwaukee.
I'm going to exchange it for an extra small and give that a go. Might try the blue since I see that color is available...
I'll be sure to write a follow-up review for us shorties =)!
No, it won't be for a cold winter. It is ok for daytime, a sunny cool day, but get a Nuptse jacket instead, or get this one and layer it under a windproof shell. I'm always cold, and loooove my Nuptse jackets! It's early October and I"m already wearing mine.
Plenty warm for Denver with 550 fill down. If you are going to be heading up into the mountains much, you might want to look at a 700 fill down jacket like The North Face Nuptse jacket, but if your mainly staying in Denver the 500 will be fine.
I originally bought this jacket in a small. It was too big in the shoulder/upper arm area, and a bit puffy in the upper back. I ordered another in a xs and it fit perfect. I only wish the jacket overall was a little bit longer. Still the best jacket I have ever owned, it's stylish, not bulky, very slimming and toasty warm. I am 5'1 and weigh 111 pounds. Bust size 34D. The size chart says an xs fits up to a 32 but this xs jacket fit me just fine. Thanks Backcountry. I will order this jacket in another color next year!
This jacket fits true to size and the outside fabric is thick satin-like. I have the purple color, the fabric is stiff and shiny. The jacket is heavier than I expected and not sure it is suitable for travelling ... and those logos on the front and back, including the writings on the sleeves is a bit too much. The jacket, when on, reminds me of the inside liner of a coat. There are tabs on the sleeves as attachments to a shell, so it appears, this is a liner with its shiny, satin fabric and diamond quilted patterns;also, shorter sleeves and body. No, I would not wear this as a jacket!

I love, love, love this jacket. I got it in white and was a bit worried about the "dirty" factor. But it's easy to clean and it looks great on and off the slopes. I originally got a large, but I have pretty broad shoulders so I had to exchange it for an XL.
Looking at the picture, and not being very familiar with NorthFace but my kids like it, I thought it would be alot thicker than it is, the coat is paper thin, I have no idea if it will be warm enough for a chicago winter, I don't know how this could be called a down jacket. Not sure if I should return it or just wait until christmas and let them try it, I ordered three and am very concerned. I was so excited when I ordered them thinking they are going to love these. Got the box and thought they must be shipping them separate but to my surprise all three were in there, if anybody can help me out and raise my confidence because I was so excited about these coats just to be very disappointed......
I'm moving to Denver, Colorado and I ordered the anaconda thinking it would be warm enough but I tried it out without taking the tags off and sent it back because it's not warm enough for winter, which is what I need it for. I suggest some of the bulkier North Face jackets. They are bigger, but not by much and they are top of the line, last forever, and keep you very warm.
I wear this all winter long!! It is the perfect amount of warmth for the Pacific NW and it makes me feel good. I've had mine for three years now and it is still holding up great despite my attempts to beat it up.

Love this jacket. Originally got a large and it fit good, but as the weather got colder and I was wearing thicker layers the large was a bit small in the arms and across the shoulders. Returned for an x-large and it fits perfect with bulkier layers. Highly recommend this jacket. Not too puffy, warm and stylish. I got the white and love it, many compliments.
i am 5'4 and 115-118 pds with longer arms...i am thinking of ordering a small...does that sound right. everyone has said it runs big... can i use this for skiing at all
I am 5'3, 110lbs and I got an XS. It's actually a little big for me for wearing around town. If I were using it for skiing, I would probably layer more and it would be perfect. The arms are a little long on me as well, so you should be good if you have longer arms.
I measured myself to make sure that it would fit. I thought this would be a little more form fitting. However, I received it and it's a little big. I decided to keep it anyway because (1) it's warm and I can put one of my big sweaters/sweatshirts on under it, and (b) the sleeves hit just right and if I go one size down, I suspect that the trade-off would be shorter sleeves which means cold arms. Overall, I am happy with it, just wish it was more form fitting (which is what would have earned it the fifth star). Oh, and Backcountry's service was fabulous on this order. I received it extremely quickly despite choosing the free shipping option which is UPS Basic. This means it's shipped via UPS to a post office near you. Then the USPS carrier delivers the package to your house.
I bought an Aconcagua but never wore it because it's just too warm and the fabric has a shine that is overwhelming. That said, I wear the vest version constantly. The quality is awesome and I think this looks much better than the Nuptse, so I think it's a good buy if you live somewhere extremely cold or will be in the mountains a lot, as opposed to around town.
I'm 5'8" and 142 lbs. I have extra long arms and a slim torso. would this be a good fit? in medium or large?and would it be good for downhill skiing between 10 and 30 degrees?
I would probaby try and large. I'm just under 5'6" and 128 lbs and the medium fits me fine. I too have long arms. The small was too short in the arms. As for skiing, I don't think it would be warm enough at 10 degrees. Probably would be ok in the 30s or even 20s with no wind. My 2 cents...
Received my jacket in record time. The fit is perfect, I usually wear small, extra small, and the X-small jacket is true to size. Service is excellent- had a problem with the price, and it was taken care of quickly, and to my satisfaction. I am ordering another jacket this week.
I love this jacket. It's fitted but not too tight. It is the perfect weight for all but the coldest days. It is lightweight and very comfortable. I got the black because that's what I always get and it's perfect! The fabric is a little bit shiny but it's just the right amount. You will love it!
this coat does keep you very warm without the bulk, even with just a thin 3/4 sleeve shirt i was cozy. i purchased this in brown and love it, the satin gives it a classy look. best of all, got it on sale and paid a lot less had i bought it from a store.
This is a great jacket. I love the purple color. I've gotten tons of compliments. As for size, I first ordered a small. The sleeves were way too short and the body was a bit short too. I am almost 5'6" and 128 lbs. The medium fits much better. I would have given this 5 stars if the body was a little longer (even in the medium). The weight of the jacket is nice. I would say I'm comfortable at temps down to about 25 or even down to the high teens if I won't be out long. The body of the jacket could be a little more fitted but this way it lets me put a thicker sweater on underneath. All is all it is great jacket!!!!
Sylish and warm. I live in minnesota and it is negative 10 and it is keeping me warm. But can go from outdoor to indoor with out getting hot or cold and it is not bulky. But buy your size i bought one bigger for heavier clothes for winter months and sent it back for a smaller
love this jacket. it is -10 degrees in Minnesota and it is keeping me warm. also it is very stylish and not bulky. so I can go from shopping to outdoor and not be too cold or hot.buy your size i originally bought a size bigger for sweatshirts and sweaters underneath but had to exchange for smaller size
Honestly, I am 5'6" and approx 125 lbs and received a Medium in this jacket today and it's plenty roomy. You should probably be ordering a Small. As far as length, it hits the very top part of my butt, I would highly doubt it could cover anybody's butt. Hope this helps.Penni's reply ---> I'm also 5'4", I weigh about ten pounds more than you and I have the XS. It will definitely NOT cover your butt ... even if you get the M.
I live in Syracuse, NY which (according to wikipedia) gets more snow than any other U.S. city. I ended up returning my coat because I would probably end up buying another once January hit. The sleaves were too short, something I read in other reviews. Also, the sleaves do not have cuffs so cold air is more likely to sneak in. The outer fabric seems really durable and the plum color is hip. As far as a packable coat, it is light but there are a lot of stiff seams that make it tougher to smash down. The staff helped me decide between two other coats: Marmot sweater (which is not a sweater) and a Columbia jacket, both of which are 800 fill. I got the Columbia jacket because it came in the dark cherry color and am so far happy with it except the feathers do come out the seams.
It is snowing here in my part of Texas today (very rare), so I put on my new NF jacket (over a very thin shirt) and took my puppy outside to see his first snow. I was so toasty warm, it was amazing. Unlike my other (not-as-nice) down jacket, I cannot feel the wind or cold air getting through this jacket at all. As far as fitting goes, I am 5'6.5", 120 lbs, small chested (32 A), and I bought a small. It fits a little larger in the torso than I would like, but the sleeves are JUST right, so I fear an XS would be too short in the sleeves. However, the extra room in the torso is good if I ever want to wear a sweater or anything beneath it, or for women with larger chests. Also, the black is an incredibly beautiful shiny black that I just love - it matches my (black lab) puppy's extremely shiny black coat!
Lightweight and warm. In other North Face product I usually take a large, this is a tad big but that allows you to wear a sweater or sweat shirt underneath. If I could make one change, I would make it a tad longer. I'm 5'9" and it comes right to the midst of my dupa (which gets cold in the Chicago winters. My first NF in brown and I've gotten a lot of comments on it. Buy the Dakine brown gloves to go with this jacket - very close color match.
I have a long torso and this jacket ended up being too short for me. I ended up returning it Other then that, I really liked the jacket. It fit great and look fantastic. Seemed to be really warm, and felt really light at the same time.
Yes, the XS should be fine. I don't find that mine runs big at all. I'm 5'4" 115# and I got the XS. I wouldn't mind if I had just the tiniest bit more length in the body and sleeves so it should be perfect for you.
I just got back from traveling in Europe for three weeks. It snowed in both France and England. My husband and I never rented a car so most of our sightseeing was walking or taking trains, subways or planes. I was never cold and my coat was perfect for carrying or packing. It is lightweight but warm. I was worried I would be uncomfortable during the winter time but the coat was the perfect item I needed to make my trip a success. Thank you
Bought this for the wife as an early Christmas present. She absolutely loves it. She is six months pregnant and usually wears stuff in size small so we got a large. We both commmented that even though it is a large, it doesn't look too roomy, so much so that after the baby comes she should still be able to wear it.
I bought this jacket for me and my daughter. We both love it. It isn't too bulky and it is perfect for Texas winters. I'm not sure it would be warm enough for very cold climates but it is exactly what I needed. Very pleased.
Got this coat a couple of weeks ago. LOVE IT! So comfy and soft. Constantly getting compliments. Ordered a size up after reading reviews. Might have been able to stay true to size. Love that the coat is not too poofy or boxy. Colors are great! Quick ship from backcountry. I'll be back!
I am about 130 lbs. 5'8", I am a little concerned that this jacket will not be long enough. Is this a problem others are having? I really like the look of this jacket, will it be worm enough to wear skiing in January? Or just a jacket for every day use, but not long amounts of time in cold weather? Thank you.
I don't think that length is an issue with this jacket. I wouldn't recommend it as a ski jacket however- I would look at something like the Amore Jacket or Destiny Down if you are looking for something down to ski in. They have powder skirts and are designed to be ski jackets.
My girlfriend loves this jacket and it looks great on her. She's had it for a few months now and it works great as a liner for her TNF ski shell. It's also good for around town. She's never complained about it not being warm enough.
Everyone asks where I got this coat; I practically get a compliment every time I wear it! I got the purple and it's gorgeous; great for everyday casual wear. Not quite as warm as I expected, especially with this terrible winter we've had so far, but I just throw on a scarf & gloves & I'm fine. I'm 5'8" 150 lbs and the LG fits great with plenty of room even for bulky sweaters..I also have very long arms and the sleeves are perfect. Love it!!
Bought this for my fiancee and she loves it. I was a little disappointed to find such a small amount of down in it. It doesn't seem like it is that warm, but the lady hasn't complained about being cold. We'll see...
Write your question here...Will this jacket be warm enough to shovel snow in and being outside a short amounts of time? I live in west central illinois
It doesn't matter if it is 50 or -5 you WILL be warm and cozy inside this coat! I was weary of buying before trying it on, but you know what, it looks adorable! It is a great ladies jacket. You get to keep your figure! How often can you say that happens with coats these days!? Buy it. You won't regret it. AND you won't find a better price.
The color/size availability is real-time updated with the warehouse, so what show is what is available. You can always go to thenorthface.com for online dealers.
They were right about the wicked fast shipment. Mine has been good, however I noticed that there is a thread unraveling on the stitching. They said they would take it back-no problems but I love it otherwise. Besides they do not have my size and color anymore. Might see if a tailor can do something. Otherwise, good coat.
I got it for my gf. She had the NF Aconcagua vest XS in black, so i knew the size. She usually wears Small but XS fits her well. She really likes the color (purple) and shiny finish. Also likes the fact that it's not as bulky as other down jackets. She gets lots of compliments.
I got this coat 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it! Super warm, comfy and just all around a great jacket. While reading the reviews here I noticed someone saying it didn't fit them do to bust size... I'm 5'4" and a 34DD, the medium has more than enough room for me to fit into WITH a bulky sweater underneath :) All around this is another amazing North Face product!
Hey anybody....ordered the aconcagua...just received them and concerned...says it down but it is paper thin. Will they be warm enough for a chicago winter or do I have to return them and frantically try and find something else for Christmas in less than 10 days..HELP
I bought it in brown and have received tons of compliments. It's not as warm as my Lands' End down, but it isn't as puffy either. Great for days when the temp is above zero.
Beautiful jacket! Very warm. It's nice and thin but very warm. This was for my teenage daughter and she loves it. She needed something warm but still thin enough to fit in her school locker and this works.
This is the best light weight, warm down jacket I have owned to date. Fits a bit snug in the hips and waist so you may need to order a size bigger than you normally wear. Great material! Fantastic colors. Highly recommend this as a layer to your skiing gear.
I wanted something warmer. I like this because it is thin and light, but I had to exchange it for something else just because this wasn't the style I was looking for.
Which North Face down jacket would you recommend for wear in cold Boston temps. Not necessarily looking for a ski jacket, just one to wear outside with my kids. Also, I would prefer something not too puffy since I am only 5 feet tall.
Does it have to be TheNorthFace? Some other companies make some great non-puffy down jackets as well. (Montbell, Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, etc.)BC.com's Luft 800Cloudveil Inversion JacketMtnHardwear LoDownMontbell Ultralight DownOutdoor Research ErgoPatagonia Down Sweater
It was love at first sight! Almost a silk feel rather than nylon on the shell with a nice soft fuzzy collar. I am always cold (Michigan) and the first day I wore this jacket, I felt warm in it for a change!
I got an XS. The torso was almost too big and the arms were too short. It was so cozy that I really wanted to keep it but the wrist elastic riding up my forearms wasn't something I could get accustomed to. I had friends review how it looked and they agreed that it appeared ill-fitting. Bummer.
I'm really enjoying my jacket. I live in South Carolina, where it's not too terribly cold in the winter, although I was getting cold in my TNF Denali and this jacket has been a great step up. When I first got the jacket, I thought it would be too thin, but it's actually worked great for me. I wore the jacket in the Midwest during the holidays, and I thought it did a pretty good job of keeping me warm then as well, except when the windchill was at -30, but I don't know what kind of coat could keep you warm at those temperatures. I normally run very cold, but my Aconcagua jacket has done a good job of keeping me warm--now it's just my legs that are cold, which is a welcome change. The outer shell has also done a great job of repelling the hair of my Shetland Sheepdog, which is a huge plus.
If her chest is 33" or more, a small is likely a good fit though the sleeves may be a consideration. If less, an XS is probably the better choice and because she is shorter, the sleeves will probably hit better on her arms than with a small.
I bought this jacket for my 13-year-old and it past the test. She loves it! Alot of the kids her age go through winter with just a fleece but I wanted a little more warmth. It's perfect.
Ok so I'm going skiing over Christmas... will this jacket work with a north face fleece under it or should I got with the Nuptse? I don't really think I am going to be a the hard-core skiing type; so I would prefer to have a jacket that I can wear elsewhere... Please help! I don't know what to do!
This jacket with a fleece underneath it should keep you plenty warm. The only concern with using this jacket or the Nuptse as a ski jacket will be if you are skiing in real stormy weather. Because it is built as an insulating jacket it is not waterproof. In turn if the weather gets real bad you might get wet.
This is a great-looking down jacket, but thinner than I expected. I was looking for a very warm down jacket for January days in New England. I also didn't like the prominent, gray North Face logo on the front as well as the back of the jacket.
This is the perfect jacket to travel with. It is soooo soft and absolutely beautiful! It keeps you warm because the down inside yet isn't too bulky! I love it!
Impressed from the very beginning. I borrowed it from a friend and I found the weight of the coat very light. Don't let this fool you. The coat keeps you extremely warm and on cold days I wear it around my house. It's soft and very well made and it is the coat I wear everywhere. Definitely worth it.
i just got this jacket today, and i already am in love with it. it was the perfect size, but the torso is a little short...but other than that, it is a wonderful jacket!
I am interested in buying this jacket for my daughter who is 12 years old. She tried one on in a store and wants it for Christmas. She wants the white one but I am concerned that it will constantly show dirt. How easy is it to clean?
You'll be very surprised in a good way. These jackets, even white, repel dirt pretty well just be careful it may show a little dirt.An adult friend of mine has the white and hers consistently looks dirty - I've owned my green one for a year and it looks brand new, even after camping, skiing, and the like.
I love that this jacket is thin, not too bulky, but actually really warm!!! I live in northern Indiana and it can get pretty cold here, but this thing keeps me toasty. However, my one complaint would be that I wish it was a little more fitted. I ordered my typical size, a large, but I do feel that it is a bigger large. Like everyone else says, good if you want to wear a sweatshirt or something bigger under it. I think that a size medium would be too small though, so I'll stick with it. It is shiny, so if you don't like that style I would choose something else. I got the brown and I have gotten compliments on the color.
My husband purchased a jacket for himself when he was in college. We've been married for 20 years; and, the jacket is 25 years old. It looks almost brand new. It's not worn; except, it needs a new zipper. I've been wearing it for many years; and, our 12-year-old daughter is now wearing it. We love it! We love The North Face!
I loved the color and cut of this jacket. However, I wore for only a few months and the fabric was not wearing well at all. It snags very easily, not something you would want for everyday wear. It also was not as warm as I had hoped. I ended up returning and ordering another style.
I am getting colder these days - and I'm going to ski a fair amount in Colorado this winter, would you recommend the Nuptuse Jacket or the Aconcagua Down jacket? I'll be putting a shell overtop in bad weather. Thanks, Stephanie
Unless you're skiing on really really frigid days the Anacongua plus shell will be more than sufficient. Most days on the slopes in CO last year I wore my Apex bionic softshell with a hardshell and was more than cozy.
I have 4 north face jackets and I love all of them! the Aconcagua Down is so warm and soft! I ordered the same size in it as I did in my other north face jackets! It's been great on cold days and mild days. I couldn't believe how warm it was since it's not big and bulky...I ordered the winter white one and I like it a LOT!
Great jacket - fit is good, warm and very cute. My only complaint is that the tag says the MSRP is $139.00 and I paid $148.00 - what's up with that?????
This jacket is both warm and cute and the same time. Perfect for mild winter days and chilly Fall nights. The maroonish/purple color is just right for keeping your look girly.
