When your kid has to stand in a foot of snow to wait for the bus, make sure he has the 550-fill down insulation of The North Face Boys' Aconcagua Jacket. (Footwear is a good idea too, of course.) The Aconcagua puffy jacket provides a level of warmth that a thick fleece or ski jacket just can't compete with.
I bought this jacket for my 5 year old son. This was meant to be his jacket for the coldest winter days. However, after receiving it, I didn't think it would be sufficiently warm for the coldest days. The down didn't seem particularly thick, the fabric seemed thin and not waterproof, and the jacket was not long enough to cover my son's bottom and hips. I ended up getting him the NF McMurdo parket which I am love. It is down-filled with heavy, water resistant fabric, and the parka goes partway down the legs. It also has a down-filled hood. I feel comfortable sending my son out into the 15 degree weather wearing the McMurdo. So if you are looking for an everyday jacket, the Aconcagua is nice enough. But if you are looking for a super-warm jacket, get the McMurdo.
Seems like a great coat, but definitely order up a size. I measured my son and ordered based on the size chart. It was way too small and had return it to order up a size. That stinks because I had to pay shipping to exchange it even though I followed instructions given by manufacturer. So don't make my mistake - see what size the chart tells you to order and get the next size up.
I bought this coat for my grandson for Christmas. He loves it! It is so warm and I love the fact I can machine wash it. I also loved the fact that it was on sale and free shipping! I will be a return customer! Thanks!
I am trying to buy my son this jacket but not sure of the size. He is 15 years old. He is 5ft 8inch and weight 160lbs. Is it size L or XL, or an adult M?
Got this jacket for my son originally in a Large and it was too small. He is 11 and 5"0" tall and 100lbs. I then x-changed real easily for an xtra large which fit much better but in terms of leaving room for growth I probably would have been better off with a mens small. But all in all the Jacket looks great, appears to be warm without all the bulk.
My son wears a 14 both shirt and pants. Would you go up a size in this jacket...to an 18 or stay with the 14/16? He is not a real slender kid but growing
I am trying to decide which down North Face jacket to get my son. The Aconcagua and the Neptuse are the ones I'm looking at. I need an every day winter jacket for school. He has a heavy waterproof jacket for skiing.
I would go with the Aconcagua. My sons has seemed very bomb proof and comfortable. They clean up well and insulate extremely well. Either way you'd be fine as both are nice jackets, but my personal preference would be this one.Hope that helps.
My 9 year old grandson wants this jacket. I don,t know if to order the 8 or 10/12. Do you know the measure of the sleeve for the 8 and the 10/12? I say get the bigger size, but my daughter thinks the sleeves would drown him.Any help?????????
Is your grandson an average sized 9 year old? My 8 year old wears 12/14's. If he is average sized I'd still say to go 10/12. These jackets fit pretty true to size. You could always get both and return the one that didn't fit as well. Backcountry is the best with customer service for sure.Hope that helps.

Is the McMurdo Bluesign approved (you'd want to know that with kids) or at least that the DWR is PFOA or PFOS-free?
