The North Face Sedition III Jacket - Men's - 2008

The North Face Men’s Sedition III Jacket features the stretchy mobility of a softshell jacket with the seam-sealed waterproof protection of a hardshell thanks to Gore-Tex Soft Shell fabric. For epic powder days and blower conditions, this jacket keeps you warm and dry without restricting movement. Full Underarm zips let you ventilate when the sun comes out, and a helmet-compatible storm hood and integrated powder skirt seal out the weather when it gets nasty. A RECCO avalanche reflector adds some safety in the event of an inbounds slide, and a slew of pockets hold all your goods for the day.

Bottom Line: If skiing is wrong, we don’t wanna be right.

What temperature is this jacket rated for? Would you need to layer up on a cold day?

Hi Kurtis- The Sedition Jacket is Gore Softshell, and the backing is 3 different types of fleece - heavier in the back and chest, with lighter fleece under the arms and down around the hem of the jacket (so it doesn't pick up snow). The fleece backer is going to add some additional warmth for sure, but not to the degree of an insulated shell, so you will still need to layer with this piece on cold days. It is a nice compromise however- this jacket is more usable in greater variety of weather conditions than an insulated shell.
Hope this helps

Although I love the puffy, for those other days, the ones with lots of hiking, it's nice to have a jacket that's lightweight, warm, and comfortable. The Sedition III is one of my favorite jackets of all time. The material has a slight stretch to it but is far from your normal soft shell. While it's only a three layer shell it's surprisingly warm and keep out the toughest of conditions to keep you dry, warm, and performing at an optimal level.

Size large has a 32" center back length, a 39" sleeve length (measured from center back)and a 50" chest [Weight is 2.16 lbs]. That's a generous amount of length in both the sleeves and overall length, but the chest is about average for this size of coat. As you go up or down is size, you will +/- one inch in sleeve and back length and +/- 3" in chest.

Great...

This is by far the best jacket I have ever owned. I wasn't sure at first but when I wore it for the first time in Iowa it was 2 degrees and snowing I just wore a hooded sweatshirt underneath and with a wind chill of -7, I was warm and comfortable. Great jacket only 4stars because of the price but it is a north face and it is gortex.
