The North Face Apex Bionic Triclimate Jacket - Men's - 2008
A wind-blocking, breathable, stretchy softshell jacket with fleece backing and a zip-in Heatseeker liner? Sweet. Sounds like The North Face Men’s Apex Bionic Triclimate Jacket provides layering options for fall, winter, and spring. Wear the Apex ClimateBlock softshell alone when the leaves change and the wind picks up on your fall backpacking trips—the fabric blocks harsh gusts and the fleece backing feels soft when you wear a short-sleeve performance top underneath. Zip the liner into the softshell once snow starts to fall, then sport the liner around town on dry spring days.
Bottom Line: Insulation when you need it, a light fleece backing on the softshell when you don’t.
I ordered expecting a zip in, almost returned it because it isnt, but i love it too much regardless.
This is my first TNF jacket and i love it. I live in a house with 15 other guys and all of them who have seen it love it. I even got asked to borrow it for a weekend camping trip which i had to deny. So warm, soft, light, and stylish. The Basin Blue is amazing.
I bought my husband the Triclimate Hero jacket and he loves it except for the stripe under the arms and the hood that you can not tuck in. Is this jacket similar to the Triclimate Hero? Does this jacket have the stripe under the arms or a hood that can not be tucked in? I appreciate your help.
Got it for a friend. He says many have complimented the jacket. He loves the cut and the options it offers. The only drawback, like the others say, is it's not a zip in. But it's still an awesome jacket.
Like the person below me said, the one bad thing about this jacket is that it is NOT a zip in. That means the two layers do NOT connect, as most other North Face jackets do.
Besides that though, this jacket is really great. The outer layer is super impermeable and when combined with the inside, it provides enough warmth for a 30-40 degree day, at the least. If it's not too hot out, you can even remove the inside layer and just wear the outside as a windbreaker in case it's snowing, or just for styling. There's also a zipper on the left bicep area which is pretty good for storing random things like cellphones or mp3s.
The only other thing I'd have to say about this jacket is that it does look pretty plain but that makes it more mature looking, so as to not look like you're constantly climbing mountains, and that it doesn't have a left breast pocket which I have on my other North Face jacket. All in all though, this jacket was a pretty good buy for this price, and considering it's The North Face.
I really like the light weight, but is this jacket warm enough for camping/hiking in northern Arizona and central California (Big Bear) in the middle of December?
Shouldn't be too bad if you're moving around or near a campfire. You might need an extra layer or two if your idle or it's super cold out. It should be enough to have you covered though most of the time.
Hey there the Apex Bionic triclimate is the same Apex Climateblock fabric for the outer jacket that is in the stand alone Apex Bionic softshell jacket. The liner is a synthetic insulated piece.
