The North Face Kira Triclimate Jacket - Women's - 2008
The North Face Women's Kira Triclimate 3-in-1 Jacket combines the weather protection of a waterproof breathable HyVent shell with the insulation of a removable Heatseeker liner jacket. Whether you’re riding in warm spring conditions or the brutal cold of mid-winter temperatures, the Kira Jacket adapts to keep you comfortable. The North Face added Underarm zips to the shell for even more versatility, and both pieces can be worn alone in the mountains or around town.
I am interested in this jacket, but am afraid that the white color will get dirty easily! I am buying this jacket for my everyday winter jacket that I will wear to school and work. Do you think that the shell will get dirty easily, and if so, what is the best way to clean it?
Kudos to the North Face for designing their clothing for women of All shapes and sizes. I've gained 20 pounds since my competition days and you'd think I'd gained 60. Most outdoor clothing companies must think athletic women are all 5'9" and 110 pounds. C'mon people! I should be able to cram my fat ass in a size large jacket and still be able to layer. Most of these companies don't even make x-large sizes any more. Oh, but they do make x-small for all you 10 year olds out there. Geez!!
Anyway, I've made my point. I'm 5'2 and currently 150. This size large is a great fit and the arm length is not too long. The pockets are generously sized, another rarity in clothing designed for women. I want functional technical outer wear just like the men folk get. If I wanted to make a fashion statement, I'd wear prada and sit in the lodge by the fire. However, if you're a fashionista, this jacket is a 3 in one. The insulating under jacket or whatever you call it is functional as well as great looking. You can wear either one exclusively, but together it provides a great deal of warmth. If you must, you can layer underneath both of them and still zip it up comfortably to your chin. This jacket doesn't bind when you're sitting on the lift. I also like the fact that it has an opening for earphones although I would have preferred it to be located in a different spot so I don't have to unzip the jacket to adjust it. Also, The North face follows suit with other companies that put one pocket on top of the other. (One inside and outside on the same side.) I don't understand this philosophy. If you have to adjust your ipod settings, it makes it difficult to do so if you have put other objects in the same side pocket. That's the only gripe. The goggle pocket is generously huge. Last week after a great sesh I put my gloves, an energy bar, and half a sandwich in there on the way to the parking lot. This jacket also goes well with the freedom pants which I own in a size large.
All in all, nice work North Face. I would recommend this line of clothing to any short, slightly chunky ladies out there who rip it up. Cheers!
I live in a high wind (20+ mph) area, with colder weather...hence a very cold wind chill (0 or below wind chill). Will this coat keep me warm? Is it rated to a certain minimum temperature?
Nice jacket but sleeves to short and fit is off for anyone over 5'6". I agree the colors are off and the jacket did not look like the pic. I thought the shell would be nicer.
Accordind to these, they don't: By: maureen1782445 December 22, 2008 My only thought is that I wish the inner jacket would zip to the shell... so I didn't have to zip twice each time
The liner could be longer. I bought the red jacket, and it does not look anything like the picture, it's rather close to pink. I can't wear pink, so I'm sending it back. Bought the Arctic Blue one instead.
About breathability: I wore my blue one snowshoeing for about an hour and was soaked, completely soaked, regardless of the under arm vents.
I have the W. Milletan Triclimat in snow white with brown plaid inner jacket. Do you have a brown hat that matches - or possibly the white with brown trim?
I bought TNF Kira Triclimate to wear to Breckenridge CO in Feb. to go skiing. I wore it with a TNF Khumbu Fleece under and a base layer and was warm in 0 degrees weather. It served my purpose and also kept me dry. I'm really happy with the purchase and Backcountry had the best price for it. Great service too.
TNF's proprietary synthetic insulation offers a great warmth to weight ratio, is highly compressible and is extremely durable, making it ideal for cold weather products requiring warmth at minimal bulk.
IF anyone is looking for black ( not shown in Back Country.com) I found one @ campmor.com IT has a hint of white, just like the navy blue one shown here, but this won't go with my black pants. They also have XL price right now is $219. Good deal!
it depends where you live. The shipping from backcountry.com is really fast. Nothing I have ordered has ever taken longer than five days and I live in Seattle (they ship from Salt lake City).
Great jacket. I bought the blue and skied for 2 weeks in St. Moritz (Switzerland). Jacket fits well, hood is detachable (and comes in handy if you're caught in a snow / rain storm). The liner is warm enough to wear on its own - I even skied in just the liner for a few days. Plenty of pockets for your goggles, iPod, keys, money, etc. Even has a cloth for cleaning your goggles / sunglasses in a sleeve pocket. Was great for skiing, but is warm enough to wear around in the cold weather, as I've done here all winter in NYC. I prefer this to a bulky down jacket for running errands, etc. any day!
it is pictured without a hood but in specifications it says it has one. I want to make sure that is has a hood before I buy this jacket, the north face kira triclimate jacket...
Awesome jacket!!! Very warm, very comfortable and functional. My only thought is that I wish the inner jacket would zip to the shell... so I didn't have to zip twice each time but apparently they do that for extra warmth which I can appreciate. Love it!
Yes. Here is what TNF says about hyvent: We incorporated this technology by utilizing a polyurethane (PU) coating that consists of a tri-component multi-layer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. This technology was lab tested in The North Face quality assurance lab to ensure the best possible durability and function. The average breathability achieved using HyVent™ is 650g/m2/24 hours on the Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate (MVTR) scale*. To test the level of waterproofness we subjected HyVent™ garments to 20 wash cycles* where on average they retained over 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens Test*.
My teenage daughter has worn the shell since she received it for Christmas. The liner is beautiful and warm-I've borrowed and worn it alone. Although the sleeves could be longer.
I bought this 3 in 1 jacket in blue & I love this coat!! I am 5'9" slender. I got a size large as I do with all North Face tops (Im a North Face junky). I like that it isnt short when I raise my arms. Also, its not tight across the back or a bulky fit. I get lots of compliments on this coat. It has a built in powder skirt & inside pockets. Thus far I have worn it with the inside liner in, so I dont know how it is with just 1 or the other but Im sure great! It also boasts other nice features like zip pits & velcro on the sleeves. The hood is detachable too but I havent worn it with out. Well worth the price ,especially since I got mine 20% off on sale!! This will be a fave for many cold Colorado winters to come!
You will need to layer of course but this will work well. You may want to look into down. A powder Skirt is like a tight fitting barrier that keeps snow from going up your shirt or down your pants
