The North Face Destiny Down Jacket - Women's - 2008
Zip into The North Face Women's Destiny Down Jacket, and let its 600-fill down insulation keep you nice and toasty on resort days so cold that none of your friends will leave the lodge. Pull up the Destiny Down Jacket's insulated hood when the mercury drops out the bottom. A powder skirt blocks snow, and The North Face Destiny puffy's two internal pockets hold goggles and keys. If a winter storm rolls in, pull a weather-resistant shell over this jacket—the Destiny is incredibly warm, but not waterproof.
Bottom Line: It was cold out today? Hmm. I simply didn't notice.
What a truly amazing cold weather jacket. I am 5'8 and a size 6/medium and this fit me perfectly. The jacket provides amazing insulation against wind, light snow, and cold. The inner arm cuffs & powder skirt protect against snow, the soft collar is great for zipping up around the face, and the lightness of the jacket make it extremely maneuverable. To be kept warm AND have great movement in a jacket is a tough combination to find. This is now my go-to jacket for colder days. I love the greenhouse green color (it's bright) and the cut and stitching- very flattering and comfortable for women. There are great pocket placements and a small goggle wipe in the lower side pocket, which can be handy. Versatile in use for on and off the hill..great for downtown- walking about town etc.
Will I look like a marshmallow in this jacket? I need a heavy jacket for Denver, Colorado so I understand that some puffiness is necessary but I don't want it to be majorly puffy.
This jacket is not as puffy as something like the Nuptse jacket. As far as women's down jackets go, I think this one is the best with regards to being warm but it still has really nice lines. You will not be disappointed with the look of this jacket compared to other down puffies out there.
This is my first down "puffy" coat -- I'd always shied away from them because I don't think they're terribly attractive. BUT, functionality has won me over and I think this coat will forever be a staple in my outdoor gear. I got the green color, which is much brighter than it appears online. The photo that another reviewer uploaded is much more true to the color. The sleeves are long enough (which is sometimes an issue for me), however, the coat is a bit snug on me around my hips (I do have pretty wide hips, though).
I have taken this coat backpacking at high altitudes and it keeps me very warm at night! I stuffed it in a cotton sack in the tent, and used it as a very comfy pillow, too.
The great thing about down is that you're kept warm, but you never get too warm. The hood is great, too; because you have no need for a scarf or a hat.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this coat. I didn't give it 5 stars because it's a little tight on my hips and the green color is a bit much.
If you live in a dry cold climate, colarado,or banff alberta you would be fine on most days! But if you live on the coast or the cascades you will need a gore-tex layer over top!Check the forecast regardless of wear you live and you will know weather you should bring that extra layer!I always bring a waterproof layer anyway!
This is an awesome coat for casual use. It will keep you very warm and protect you from winter winds quite nicely. I only wish there was a way to fold up and hide the snow skirt because I'll never have a use for the thing. (There's a bunch of snaps around it but they don't seem to exist for hiding the skirt.) It's always in the way when I go to zip it up. :/ It's a small nuisance, though. This coat is the best I've ever had!
My favorite part about this jacket is the zips near the end of the sleeves. When unzipped, it gives you a nice, fashionable bell sleeve. Very stylish.
I also feel compelled to mention that the coat comes with its own goggle/glass cleaning cloth in the right pocket. It's detachable if you don't need it!
Love, love, love this jacket. It's comfortable, not bulky, warm, light weight and the color is great. Soooooooo happy with my purchase and would recommend it highly.
How's the material quality of this jacket compared to The North Face Helicity Windstopper Down Jacket? What's the length difference of these two? Thanks!
The Helicity is a substantially heavier insulated piece with a higher down fill power. You also have the added benefit of having a Windstopper fabric for total windblocking properties. The Destiny has some added ski features like a snowskirt and more interior pocketing. The Helicity is a more technical jacket, while the Destiny is probably better for everyday use as well as dry / cold ski conditions.
I bought this jacket for my daughter for Christmas. She goes to school in Wyoming and wanted something very warm & somewhat fashionable. She loves the fit, fitted at the waist, fits ligh hip. The sleeves are great with a long inside fitted sleeve and an outside sleeve to cover gloves. She's 5'4 120lbs and the small fits very well.
Look at the bottom of the page. There are links related to shipping and payment (even internationally).Add the item to your cart, put in your address and select your country. If your country isn't there, they can't ship there. It will estimate your shipping from there.
I just got this for Christmas in an XS. I'm 5'1" and about 110 lbs. and it works! The only thing is, I have a long torso so it's a bit short but I like it because it's easier to hike in with my backpack and all. It's not too hot for hiking which is good, and it's not bulky in the least. Don't freak out if you get it and it's too short. It should fit in the arms, shoulders and chest area. Another tip...the fastener on the inside should hook right around your waist (above the hip).
You might as well if it's all you have, but it's not windproof, not waterproof, and not nearly warm enough for the 10-15 degree weather I ski in (don't know where you ski).
It's perfect for skiing or running around the chilly suburbs. Cut is roomy enough for layers underneath, but tailored to make you still look like you have a figure. Kept me very warm and cozy on the slopes with active snow and 15 degree temps. The hood and zipper that closes up to below the nose are a plus on really cold/windy/snowy days. I have it in blue and I get compliments on this jacket whenever I wear it.
I wanted a down coat for the sub-zero temps during this time of year and this coat keeps me cozy and warm. I was a bit worried about all the feathers that started to come out of it in the beginning, but not too many come out now. It gets the job done.
hi~ do you know if this jacket is tapered around the waist a little bit so that it doesn't fit too boxy? is it like the nuptse only with a hood? i would like a hood and one with feminine curves. also, does this run bigger like the nuptse? thanx!
This is the warmest jacket I have ever worn - blocks bitter winds! I like the extra length in the sleeves. Would recommend to anyone in a cold, windy climate.
Mid hip. It's not as warm as the Nuptse, same warmth but shorter than the Transit, and it has a hood whereas neither of the others do. Same fabric and construction on all 3.
I bought the North Face Destiny Down Jacket for my daughter, who is attending college in an area that is cold, snowy and windy.. I thought this would be the perfect jacket for her to wear around campus. She loves it!!! It fits her perfectly and she was thrilled with all the little extras..snow skirt to block out the cold wind, warm hood with a draw string, the pockets, the arms are long enough and the coat is Super Warm!! Would be nice if it were waterproof but she has a shell to put over it if she needs to so that is not even a problem.
I am 5'7 , a true size 6, and weigh about 130 lbs. The fit is great in the chest, shoulders, and the arm length is surprisingly long enough with some to spare, however, this is not a coat for someone who either has a long torso, or likes to have part of their rear covered. The powder skirt comes up about 2 or 3 inches too high for me to wear skiing. I still love it for everyday use. It's so flattering. The material is ultra soft and cushy, like a sleeping bag and sooo warm!
Love it for freezing cold days around town, but not so much for skiing. Its not waterproof and skiing at high speeds you can feel the wind come through the center zipper. Not very waterproof either. Good around town bad on the slopes.
It doesn't tell you when it's not, but if the hood is removable it'll say "yes, removable" or "yes, stowable" for (obviously) stowable hoods. By that token, this one's not removable.
The North Face Destiny Down Jacket is great for around town. I don't know that I would necessarily wear it skiing or snowboarding. I have a long torso and it wouldn't likely keep the snow out if I took a spill but it definitely keeps you warm when your outside in the freezing temps.
The Weimaraner BROWN should be called OLIVE green. It was noway close to the dark brown boots I ordered at the same time. Cost me $11 to return the jacket via UPS. Love the boots though.
