The North Face Boundary Triclimate Jacket - Boys' - 2008

The North Face Boys' Boundary Triclimate Jacket's three-in-one system keeps your son warm from the first hint of brisk air in October until the last bit of snow melts in May. The Boundary Triclimate Jacket's hood and shell use a waterproof breathable 2-layer HyVent fabric to withstand November drizzles and February powder days. The North Face included a removable fleece liner to add extra insulation to the Boundary Triclimate Jacket. The shell and liner can each be worn solo for just the right amount of warmth and weather protection on any given day.

Bottom Line: Fall, winter, and spring versatility.

Does the liner snap in or zip? I see on the side under specs it says that it snaps but in your response to someone below it says that it zips (except for the sleeves). When I bought this jacket last year ours only snapped. Could you confirm? Thanks.

Does the trick

This is a stupendous jacket. The North Face has earned my trust- their technical gear gets the job done. Not super warm with the fleece zipped in, but add a compatible down jacket and you're set for skiing and freezing temperatures. More waterproof than its predecessor, but not completely. However, if the jacket is wet, time to go inside. Overall, a nice jacket.

Versatile jacket

By:
December 16, 2008

Bought this jacket for 11-year old son. He wore his old triclimate for two years and got a lot of use out of it, so we decided to simply order the next size larger. The fleece is midweight (not as thick as Denali); suitable for a dry fall or spring day. The shell is waterproof and suitable for three seasons. Zipped together and layered on top of a light base layer and additional fleece or vest, he's ready to face a cold day on the mountain. Great, versatile jacket for the price with all the right features.

I have heard that the NF sizing chart for boys is off and that the jackets run smaller than what the chart suggests for height/age. Has anybody needed to buy up a size from what the NF chart suggests?

Yea, TNF sizing chart is a big trick not only for boys, but for girls and women also. The best you can do to avoid dissapointment and twice paid shipping cost is to go the the store and try in person the model you wanna by online. My 5 y.o. son is small build for his age, but his TNF Denali is in sz.XXS, his TNF Boundary Triclimate is in sz.XS, his McMurdo in sz.XS is SO HUGE on him, so i guess he will wear it in 2-3 years, Glacier fleece pants in sz.XXS are right for length, but too small for waist, Short Sleeve tee in sz.XS is great, Long Sleeve Tee in sz.XS is HUGE... i can continue endless...

great jacket, worth the $$$

By:
December 29, 2008

My 9yr old son loves this jacket (he's picky, too). Fit is good, not bulky with the liner in. Great quality, too. One thing we just realized the other night that's not mentioned in the description - the piping is reflective. Made me feel a little better during the long walk from the restaurant to the car.

Does the shell have two sets of zippers (one for zipping the fleece into it and another for zipping the shell closed)? Or does one have to rely on velcro or other fastening means to close up the shell after zipping the fleece into the shell? Thanks.

Yes, the shell has two zippers and the fleece zips into the shell easily. The shell has snap loops to keep the fleece sleeves connected.

Great BUT........

By:
January 16, 2009

My 13 year-old son loves it, but sizing is way too small. He's tall for his age, but a string bean, and I had to return the large for an X-Large - and pay twice for shipping.

ages? You need to think in terms of height and weight.Tsk tsk, Michael. You are always the first to remind people of the sizing chart, but now...? You're slipping, man. Anyway, Martha, check the sizing chart (right under the "select options" pulldown menu and to the right of the main picture) then measure your son and buy accordingly.

Great Jacket

By:
December 29, 2008

My 13-year old son loves the jacket. He can wear the fleece by itself and frequently does (we're in the sunny South). The jacket is nice and warm on cold days when he zips the fleece back into the main jacket. Plus - it's The North Face - which is evidently popular enough so he isn't embarrassed to wear it (I would know otherwise). We're very satisfied with it - especially for the price we paid.

Versatile Jacket, Happy NW Family

By:
December 29, 2008

We live in the Pacific NW and bought this jacket for our 7 year old boy. He's been wearing it almost every day, through rain and the recent 'arctic blast'. Really great looking jacket, and so far seems well-constructed. We've used it as both a shell, as well as with the liner installed, so the versatility promise is right on track. Both we and our son are really happy with this one! Tremendous value for a kids jacket of this performance level.

I think so; this is my son's second triclimate. He wears a base layer, fleece or sweater and the triclimate and is plenty warm skiing in Vermont.

Three Jackets in One

By:
December 22, 2008

My picky 10 year old son loves this jacket. The liner fleece is "cool" (looks great), functions well as an indoor or moderate weather jacket, and it's extremely easy to zip back into the outer jacket as a liner. He can (and does) do it himself. The outer jacket looks good, keeps him warm and dry, and is apparently sufficiently fashionable for the 4th grade set these days.

Yes, the coat is warm for 20 degrees, and it's all because of the fleece inside. Otherwise it is just a basic nylon shell. I just got this coat for my son and I have to warn you it's a pain. Because the liner does not zip in to the shell the coat has to be zipped twice. It's such a pain and although it has a snap attachment at the neck and the wrists it's not enough to make the difference. The two pieces are always all messed up, for lack of better wording. I knew this when I ordered the coat but the price was so great I thought it would be worth it. It is not worth it and not worth the complaining! I just ordered another North Face this week for him and I'm taking the Boundary Triclimate jacket to a resale shop!!!
