The North Face Megamouth Backpack - 1100cu in - 2008

The mesh trampoline back panel and X-Vent frame on The North Face Megamouth Backpack Hydration Pack work together to keep your back cool on your daylong hikes. Fill the 100oz Nalgene water reservoir, and pack layers and snacks in the Megamouth Backpack's main compartment. An internal organizer makes it easy to find your cell phone, while a front pocket stores sunscreen. The locking bite valve on this hydration pack won't leak all over your shirt, and this valve attaches magnetically to the Megamouth Backpack's strap for bounce-free accessibility.

Bottom Line: Keep your body hydrated and your back cool with The North Face Megamouth Backpack.

Another North Face Homerun

By:
April 29, 2009

I purchased 2 of these. One for me and one for my 10 year old boy. As a Scoutmaster, we are always taking day hikes and this hydration pack has proven to be all a good hydration pack should be. There is plenty of room to take the things you need to on a day hike, yet it is very comfortable. The only slight miss is that the waist strap seems a bit thin for the pack. All in all it is not a big deal i dont carry anything heavy enough for it to matter too much.

Disappointed

By:

I was pretty disappointed. I've always been hesitant about North Face just because I feel like you pay a premium for the name but don't really get any better gear. The stitching on the lower back pads started to come out and the bladder leaked. I tried to see if I could fix it but I think it's a design flaw in the cap of the bladder. The lanyard that keeps the lid from getting lost is attached from the inside at the bottom of the mouth and that's right where it leaked. I should have tested it first but was pretty mad when my top layers (that I needed to stay dry for the windy north rim of the Grand Canyon) got wet and was limited to half my water-carrying capacity on a 22-mile day hike. First and last time with North Face -- I think my suspicions were correct in that they're an over-rated brand.

Some nice features -- the mouth valve is definitely better than camelbak and the magnetic clip is ingenious. Just don't sacrifice functionality for bells and whistles.

No. The straps on the side and top of the outer pockets just cinch it down.

Perfect...

This backback is perfect for one-day treks in the mountain and mountain-biking trips. You can store a lot of clothing and other gear in all the big and small
compartments.... A good buy.

Great Hydration Pack

By:
January 4, 2009

I have used this pack on numerous hikes, and it works flawlessly. Its very lightweight, but big enough to pack however many Powerbars I can fit in there. The reservoir is good and plenty big, and the pack has enough pockets to stash all your essentials. Awesome pack!

Great daypack

By:
April 1, 2009

I've used this pack a few times now and it's the perfect size for a long hike and can even expand to be used as an overnight pack (So long as you are sleeping outside-fitting a tent would be a bit much).

I had no leaking problems with the hydration pack and the mesh backing is away from your back to keep it all from getting too sweaty. Success on two 8-hour hikes.

The only thing is I have a kind of short torso and the pack goes almost too low for comfort, but it just fits so I can hike comfortably.

Perfect size for day hikes and/or trail running

By: Backcountry.com Employee

This pack is the perfect size for a daypack/hydration pack. I use mine for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and for carrying some food, shoes, and extra gear to the crag whenever I go bouldering. The Nalgene hydration bladder that's included is the best bladder I've ever owned. The bite-valve is extremely simple and easy to drink from and the bladder itself has a big opening so you can wipe it out after using it. The pack has all sorts of little extras and "bells & whistles," if you will. Killer pack, looks awesome, and has never let me down.
