The North Face Volt Softshell Jacket - Men's - 2008
The North Face used ultra-breathable Apex Aerobic fabric to give the Men's Volt Jacket an edge over other softshells for high-output pursuits in the mountains and on the trails. Thanks to the above-standard breathability, you can use the Volt Softshell Jacket as a mid-layer when the weather goes from bad to worse. The North Face kept extraneous features to a minimum, so you don't have to carry around a bunch of extra pockets, zippers, and drawstring that you'll never use anyway.
Bottom Line: Move fast through the mountains while The North Face Volt Softshell Jacket protects you from the weather and helps you stay cool.
I used it on summer holydays 09 on chubut argentina and became my best friend against cold winter chills, and windy afternoon at the lakes (see the picture i upload. Very light weight, comfortable ( goes to the waist, so perfect as mid layer) i am 186 tall 85 kg and an L size goes perfect for me. I also used it for running on the park on windy and chilli days. I highly recomend it. GO black it's cooler. ;)
I love this jacket. I wear it constantly as a mid-layer. The fit is pretty true - I am 6', 180 and got a large (which is what I normally get) and it fits just like a normal jacket that i can wear a long sleeved shirt under. Its surprisingly warm for how light and thin it is, although below 45 or so I definitely need another jacket over it.
The TNF Volt jacket is very reasonably-priced, and skips on a lot of expensive extras like seam-taping, wrist closures etc. However, it looks great, is super light, and wonderfully breathable. I'm not sure it would work very well in heavy rain, or long periods of melting snow, and the fabric is not 100% windproof. But the surface is tough and sheds snow very well. All in all, this is great spring skiing jacket, and is permeable enough to work as a layering piece too. I also plan to wear it for climbing in the spring. I'm 5'11", 160 lbs, and the M is a great fit, with enough space to wear a fleece underneath.
I like it a lot - fit is ever so slightly on the baggy side, but no need to size down. Nice Fall/Spring jacket, but not all that warm. I wear it under a shell quite a bit. Repels light rain nicely, but I have run through some downpours (like car to house sprint) and found that heavy rain can get through.
Overall, happy with the purchase, even at full price.
This is the best jacket I have ever owned. It is my all year jacket. In cooler weather its great on its own, and in cold conditions, a nice fleece (my choice is a Mountain Hardware Monkey Man) makes it warm in to the low teens.
This is also my primary jacket I use to coach ice skating. its full range of motion and stretch make it ideal for any winter activity. And since my winter activity in indoors I literally wear this jacket all year round.
I knew from the first time I put this jacket on I was never going to find a better all around shell. Worth way more then they are charging for it.
This jacket is perfect for this time of year...cool mornings, light rain, etc. I liked it so much I ordered the black one as well. I really like the elastic cuffs as opposed to the open cuffs on some of the other TNF jackets.
It does have a drawcord around the waist. The fit is normal, not tight, not really baggy. I'm 5'9 and size L fits me perfect.I'm 5'11'' and I say the M fits me perfect. I'd maybe get a large if I were going to layer. But do you layer under a layer piece?
North Face does it again. The perfect lightweight jacket for "between" seasons. Comfortable and nice style. Fits well and looks great. Highly recommend.
I think Im a North Face Junkie, and this Jacket is part of the reason why. Its light enuff to feel "O" so lovely. But just warm enuff to keep the chill off your back. I live in southern Cal. so in the summer its often to worm in the day to wear. But as soon as the sun sets its on and it stays on. I have four soft shell North Face jackets, But this one is my all around go to. It breaths very well and I a havent been rained on yet but, water beads up very well. Its tuff, and if dirt or somthing gets on it it wipes right off. Im 6'1 210lbs and my XL fits great. I even got one for my father in law, and he loves it just as much.... Also BackCountry realy does ship wicked fast. Youll love this jacket.
Surprisingly windproof, haven't seen how well it sheds rain. Stretch is VERY good, comfortable jacket; breathes really well. Zipper garage is a nice touch. Think I prefer Windstopper jackets however, swapped this for a TNF Zot and am much happier, got a little more insurance against bad weather. Think I might be turning into a TNFlemming...
I ordered this jacket for myself. I didn't particularly care for the jacket, and was going to return it, but my 15 year old tried it on and absolutely loved it. It is now his favorite piece of clothing!!! He wears it to school and while playing ball afterwards. The jacket fits him a little loosely and is light enough that it is comfortable while playing. Like I said --- it all worked out.....
Snug fit, not too tight. Perfect for cool mornings or warm nights hanging out outside. comfortable with a t-shirt underneath from around 45-65 degrees....
Let 'er rip. what a great jacket its light weight but still warm enough with an underlayer for a 30 degree day. washed 4 times in a month and still going strong.
