The North Face TKA 100 Masonic Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's - 2008
Whether you're rolling around town on your cruiser bike or passing the 30-mile mark on a hike, The North Face Women's TKA 100 Masonic Hooded Fleece Jacket provides excellent insulation. As simple as it may seem, the addition of a hood makes this lightweight fleece jacket warmer than many expedition tops. The North Face included thumbholes to hold the sleeves in place, and hand-warming pockets keep your fingers nice and toasty in chilly weather. Wear the Masonic Fleece under your waterproof shell for really nasty weather or whenever you head to the ski slopes.
Bottom Line: The North Face Women's TKA 100 Masonic Hooded Fleece Jacket should have a place reserved on any outdoor trip.
My favorite thing about the TKA 100 is the athletic feminine cut. I'm 5'11"/135lbs. and wear a medium. I couldn't ask for this top to fit any better! (Well, maybe the arms could be a bit longer so I could use the thumb-holes comfortably, but since I have rather long arms, if you're not almost 6ft., you should be fine.) The slightly puckered pockets hold things better than you'd think. I fly a lot for work, and I always bring this jacket as my chilly airplane layer. It's not a fancy jacket, there are no interior pockets, but for a basic layer around town, it's perfect. Also, I've washed it multiple times and it has yet to start fading or piling (I don't use the dryer - I line-dry all my fleeces, better safe than sorry, right?) The material is still soft and new looking. Great light layer!
I love everything about this fleece top. It's fitted and not boxy, sleeves are perfect length and hood is just the right size. I can fit a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath as well. I am 5'1" tall and I weigh 111 pounds. I ordered the small in the dark purple color and I absolutely love it. I will order in another color very soon. Hope this helps someone!
Why does the price on the front page say $51.96 (20% off), but then when you click on the jacket, the price comes up as $65? What's the correct price? Does it depend on the color? Also, I am 5'3 and ~105 pounds. Do you recommend size xs or s?
I normally wear an XS or S in clothing. I ordered the size small in blue, and it fits great. My bust is 35", which is the upper end of the S according to TNF size charts, and it is a slim and flattering fit, but not too tight. I can still wear the fleece over a thin sweater, and it's not too tight. The sleeves are long enough, though that is not normally a problem for me. Even though I'm only 5'2", I enjoy the longer length; it falls just an inch or two past the top of my (low rise) jeans. I really like the shaping of this fleece, it's not baggy or "frumpy" at all (My TNF Denali fleece is a little on the baggier side, and not as flattering as the Masonic fleece). I'm happy with my purchase.
I'm 5'9", 140 lbs and considering getting this jacket. What size is recommended? And would this be good to wear by itself during the fall season in, say, Ohio?
Jackie, I'm 5'11", 135lbs, and I wear a medium. I bet you do too.
I don't think you could wear it alone in the fall season, but you could layer it under a thin down jacket (which I do when it gets cold by the ocean in LA). It's not a heavy fleece by any stretch of the imagination.
My first thought was that the "alba green" color was lighter than I expected. But, the jacket has a nice fit to it, and a very feminine cut. It looks "cute" with most anything, but isn't the best piece of technical gear ever. The arms were a bit short for me when using the thumb loops. It's also warmer than I expected-- a great fall/spring jacket, and probably great to layer with, too.
Nice jacket for the fall but not warm enough for the winter! Very soft and cozy and most importantly very durable. However the only problem were the colors. They were pretty off compared to the picture online. Like the snow white was cream white and the heather grey was dark grey? So I just stuck with the black.
Finally a fleece jacket with shaping and long enough sleeves! I'm 5'9" and the fit is perfect. Very soft and just warm enough--I'm hooked. My only complaint is that Backcountry doesn't have more colors available...
I tried this on at a store and they didn't carry it in white--but backcountry.com did!! I cannot wait to get it; it's got a great fit--hard for me to find fleeces that fit well cause I'm tall and slender, but the sleves are nice and long and so is the torso, hooray! I may have to get one in every color...
the xs would be very fitted. the small better as a layering piece...also, little tip...you would probably fit perfectly in girls youth xl in most pieces. sometimes they are have fun different colors and cost less.
This fleece is nice and comfy, but I'm not a huge fan of the thumb holes. It's not heather grey, it's a charcoal color. Also, I don't know if it's just my fleece, but the zipper isn't the greatest, it occasionally gets stuck. But it does the job, I'm pretty satisfied with it!
This is a very soft, stylish fleece. I love the thumb holes and kangaroo pockets, but it is not all that warm since the material is thin. I wear this around the city all the time, but not so much for outdoor adventures.
This is by far my favorite fleece! If I could wear it everyday I would! I have long arms and the sleeves are perfect, the hood is always awesome, it's nice and fitted. I have also used it as an insulator and it works great! Totally recommend it to anyone!
I like The North Face stuff usually. This jacket is a really lightweight jacket. As another person put, the thumb holes fit weird, they are too short or something so I just don't use them. I do like that it has an attached hood though. On the 2nd day I wore it, the inside of the left pocket came undone or unsewn so now it has a hole in it & I cannot put anything small in it. Kinda disappointing, esp for what it cost. The fabric is really soft so thats a plus. All in all, not my fave North Face product.
I bought this fleece for cool mornings and evenings when I don't need a full-strength fleece but still need some coverage. Also to keep on hand when hiking, in case the weather turns cold. So far I'm 100% satisfied. The fleece is warm and cozy but very lightweight. It's pretty packable, I tested cramming it in to my smallest backpack and there was plenty of room for necessities. The design seems thoughtful and well-executed. I am in the upper-range of medium for TNF, so I ordered a large to be safe. It is a touch big but I like the fit. The thumb holes come to about midway on my thumbs when my arms are straight, and they don't tug too hard when my arms are bent. The length hits a little above mid-hip and the openings for the pockets are right where they should be. An hourglass shape and princess seams give this jacket a lot of femininity while still feeling athletic. The hood is warm and full-coverage. I can see this carrying me through the fall and spring when paired with a waterproof shell.
Really love this jacket. Comfortable and an awesome fit. Love the thumb holes also. I wear around a L and ordered an XL and it was perfect. Would like to get more of them!
Minus the thumbholes, which are completely outdated and awkward. PLEASE MAKE THIS WITHOUT THE THUMBHOLES!
Aside from that, this is the ONLY North Face jacket that has ever fit me! I am 5'1" and 117 lbs. and the jacket is not at all boxy but actually made to fit real women with curves.
Great for layering for added warmth. And is super soft!
This is my most favorite piece of fleece I have every owned. It fits snug and keeps you warm and the thumb holes keep the sleeves down especially if you are adding an extra layer. I also like the gathering detail on the pockets. I'd get it in every color if I could!
I have been on a quest for a perfect fleece jacket with a hood, and I have found it at last. This jacket is lightweight, and super soft. Perfect for fall. It's cozy enough to keep me warm even in the windy city! It has a nice fitted shape to it, so it flatters your curves. If you want to layer it over a sweater, I would go up a size. I could do without the thumb holes, but I like that the sleeves are a little longer because of them. I have it in gypsy pink, and I'm ordering another one asap. Love it!
I washed and then dried this jacket in the dryer as washing instructions suggested - the whole jacket shrank a bit except for the zipper. Now I get a "pregnant" look when wearing this jacket since zipper bulges up in stomach area.
I've washed mine quite a few times, but never put it in the dryer. It has kept its shape perfectly. Sorry you had that experience - so for everyone else - no dryers, k'?
This fleece looks like it has a longer length than most northface fleeces. Does it? I have a long torso and am having a very hard time finding a fleece that fits. Suggestions??
I also have a long torso, and i love the way it fits!It is indeed one of the longest fleeces I have ever seen. If you have a long torso this is cute AND the right length!
I love this fleece. It's pretty warm, but not bulky at all. THe peach color is so pretty! Also, I love that it's actually long enough. I'm 5'9" so sometimes things like this tend to be a bit short on me. I've used it a few times skiing too, and it was great for that!
Absolutely love this hoodie. It's fitted so it's flattering to the figure. Perfect for spring/early fall. Lightweight but holds in the warmth. Still looks great after washing too. I ordered the heather gray which was darker than what it looked on the image, but still great color.
This fleece is perfect! The fit, the color, the length, everything is really great. The material is not very heavy but it is still very cozy and warm. The thumb holes are nice but they dig in a little bit - that is my only minor complaint.
I got this in white and it likes to collect lint but overall its a great piece. Contoured fit, the sleeve length is perfect, and thumb holes are not too small. I mostly use mine for layering under a light weight fleece but overall i never take it off.
This fleece sweater is super cute! It has a feminine curvier shape to it, not boxy like the Denali fleece. I got it in the poppy red, BEWARE it is not red. It is more of a salmon pink/coral color. But none the less still cute! The poppy red looks really great against tan or darker skin. Makes you look more tan! The fit was true to size, I normally wear a medium and the medium fit great! I have long arms and the thumbholes were still comfortable, a little tight while driving or bending my arm for long period. Awesome sweater for chilly days, looks great under TNF Nuptse vest!
i think i wore it 5 days in a row from the first day i got it! it is really my fav thing to wear - along with some yoga pants. the long torso and slim fit is super appealing. One of my goals over the next few months is to get it in every color possible! I'm 5'4, 110lbs, and I got a xs and it fits perfectly. It layers perfectly with my snowboarding jacket. GET ONE! you wont regret it.
I splurged on this fleece as a belated birthday present. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. I am 5'8", 150 lbs with long arms. This jacket for me is a great light to mid weight layer. The fleece material is buttery soft and the blue I bought it in is a wonderful soft sky/turqouise that I LOVE!!! It easily fits under my vest and/or down jacket while it also provides great warmth on its own kicking around both inside and outside during 60 degree overcast California days. The arms/thumbholes fit me perfectly. I appreciate the feminine fit and pocket details. It is stylish, warm, and comfortable. A side note: I saw the "poppy" color and I found it MUCH brighter than the muted color in the pic shown above - to me it was almost florescent and a more salmony pink.
Absolutely love this jacket! I bought it for the fall and spring to take with me to and from class. It's lightweight and can fit under any jacket. The thumb holes are convenient. And it tailors to a woman's curves. It ran true to size and worked well in the pouring rain! My clothes didn't get wet at all.
I love this fleece. It's perfect for a cool summer night or just a brisk walk in the spring. The soft feeling also makes it cozy enough for just lounging around the house! It's probably the thinnest fleece I own, but it's perfect as something to warm me up just enough when I need it.
ps: no lint or unwanted debris sticks to it either :)
So uncomfortable. Though it keeps me warm I don't even want to put it on. The zipper is weird and noisy when you zip, the thumb holes are uneven and the cut is totally strange - I question whether they used a real person for cut measurements or just made them up.
This one replaced an ancient Columbia fleece hoodie and is simply fantastic. I love the fit, the length, almost everything - I find that the sleeves are a little too narrow to easily put it on over long-sleeve shirts. And the seams at the cuffs actually cut into my forearms when I push them up, which I do all the time - not such an unexpected behavior, I think? :-( Other than that, excellent.
I love this hoodie! It is so soft and fits just right. I don't recommend it for extremely cold weather (unless you are using it for layering) but it is still warm and comfortable.
Sexy lady-shaped cut (but not too tight, still room for layers underneath), perfect length, soft and snuggly fabric, hood is not too baggy and will stay up without a drawstring, perfect sleeve length and love the thumb holes. The fun purple color is a plus too.
Ms tall and slender might like to know that ms rather shorter and rounder also finds the jacket a great fit!! A good lightweight layer that's not too bulky and lovely and soft.
I got the jacket today in windy blue color and I agree- the colors are not true at all. This is more like a dirty blue color. Backcountry also offers less variety in colors. There are more colors available in this jacket. For a better estimate of colors- see the Moosejaw website. Otherwise the fit is quite nice. I am 5'7" and 120 pounds and small fit me very well. I am not sure how warm it will be since it is very thin. Can be used for layering though.
These North Face hooded fleece jackets are the best if you're after a snug fit and reasonable warmth. Hands down these are my favorite fleece jackets. They're perfect after a workout or for walking the dog on the beach in chilly weather. Nice and sporty for a casual look. Well worth the money.
I have a slight jacket obsession to say the least and the TKA 100 might be the most essential fleece that I own!! I have the TKA in black and it's safe to say I take it everywhere with me, it has a great fit and doesn't make you look boxy like a lot of fleeces do. It's technical but allows me to wear it and feel stylish too!
I am very happy with this fleece! It is super cute. The color and quality hold up well after being washed, and it is the most comfortable fleece around. I am a North Face fleece snob now, because their fleece has made me not want to wear any other brand. The fit of this sweater is true to size and flattering. I highly recommend this product!
