The North Face XTC Midweight 1/4 Zip Pullover - Men's - 2007
An ideal layer for fall hikes or for layering under a softshell when skiing, The North Face Men's XTC Midweight ¼ Zip Shirt insulates and wicks moisture to keep you moving. The North Face gave this performance base layer their new carbon, bamboo, polyester fabric. The increased surface area of the fabric draws moisture away from your skin better than regular polyester, resists odor, and traps harmful UV rays to provide UPF 50+ sun protection. If you start to get to warm on a long hike, unzip the XTC Midweight shirt's quarter-length zipper and let some heat escape.
Bottom Line: The North Face XTC Midweight ¼ Zip Shirt—mad science for insane comfort and performance.
The Midweight is proving itself to be quite a good baselayer. It doesn't feel too bulky or too heavy and I like how it moves with my body while my pack is on. The sizing feels a little loose in my arms. I'm 5'11" 170 lbs and the medium is great in the body but just a touch loose through the arms. I guess I just need to bulk up a bit! ;) Overall the Midweight has worked well for me so far.
This shirt amazed me. I added it as an afterthought to my pants order thinking it would be nice to wear under something else. As it turned out I didn't need anything but this shirt and my ski jacket (which I mostly kept open - except sometimes on the lifts). Sitting down outside for lunch with the gang it was warm enough that I could take my jacket off. With this shirt I never felt cold, nor did I ever get overheated. It is incredible for such a thin, lightweight garment.
This shirt is the best technical shirt I've tried yet.Excellent wicking abilities. Good temperature control. Extremely comfortable. I've worn on several runs ranging from 2 to 9 miles in length in temperatures averaging 25 degrees F. Twice cross country skiing for three hour each time.Temps in the teens. The only con is price, but most quality shirts are in this price range.
I use this as my baselayer when snowboarding. Its great. Keeps me warm by wicking sweat away from my body. I stay warm and dry. This top is lightweight and feels very comfortable. I'm a small person so this top isn't snug on me, but the cut is great none the less. Ive worn it all day snowboarding and it doesn't stink, unlike my other clothing that ive used as baselayers in the past. I bought 2 of these for those longer snowboarding trips even though I'm sure the one would've been fine. I love how the shirt has a zip all the way up to the neck. Doesnt cut off like a crew shirt so it provides a bit more protection from the cold when I'm wearing a jacket. Go and buy some of these I'm sure you'll love them.
I have 2 of the midweights and 4 of the lightweights. The lightweights work well in extreme heat. My favorite is the cut. They are slim in the waist, and form fitting, but not tight. Perfect shirts in my opinion.
The length of the sleeves and shirt itself is great for the taller man. Works out great as an under layer. Not too tight, but snug nonetheless. Should be great for hiking and sports.
I played alot of tennis and did trak int this. It is very comfortable. I like the zipper because it feels just like underarmour but it has a zipper and it is the north face brand.
Have had this for a month and I love it. Using it so far as a base layer for many hikes in cool winter temps. Fits snug to body but conforms nicely. Too snug for anything under it. Great stretchy material so you don't even know its on except that your warm when it seems you shouldn't be. Can be used for anything:hiking, running, bikeing, skiing. 1/4 zip is perfect to add extra warmth when zipped or release heat when unzipped. Pricey but seems to be high quality but no experience with other brands.
My hubby is an XXL, really. And the sizing of snow gear is way small. So it was fantastic to find these North Face long undies. They fit him great and performed well. He gets cold real easily though, and the midweight weren't quite warm enough for him snowshoeing short distances.
Not too tight, not too loose. These are the best baselayers I have ever owned. The material is comfortable, and most of all warm. I usually unzip the top if it gets a bit warm to let some air in. A lot of brands simply don't offer the half-zip top. I suggest also owning a pair of the lightweights for warmer conditions.
Awesome shirt! I prefer the long-sleeve, high neck, zip-tees all summer long even in the hotest conditions. This shirt wicks well and provides a ton of sun protection.
