The North Face Windwall 2 Fleece Jacket - Men's - 2007
The biting fall wind chills to the bone. Wear The North Face Windwall 2 Jacket and protect yourself. The North Face combined a wind-resistant outer layer and a soft, warm fleece interior for weather protection and luxurious comfort. Since the Windwall 2 Jacket doesn't use a membrane like traditional Windstopper fleeces, it lets out sweat to prevent that clammy feeling, So you're comfortable in a wider range of weather conditions..
Bottom Line: For spring or fall adventures, The North Face Windwall Jacket is a lifesaver.
I bought a Windwall 2 a couple months ago so far it has done well in the cold Boston weather. It certainly blocks out the wind and provides a surprisingly good amount of warmth. You can easily wear it alone and be comfortable down to 45 degrees. It is thin enough to be worn a layer for colder temperatures. Overall I would recommend this jacket. Bear in mind that what the other reviews say about the sizing is correct, it is a little bit short and the sleeves are a little long. For a guy who is 5'6" and 150#, the medium fits great and I really don't mind that the sleeves are a bit long.
Too bad there are no more than 5 stars; this thing is off the charts for me. I recently moved to Madison, WI where they need a whole 'nother vocab for "cold." This jacket stops all wind and keeps me warm down to about 25F, yet breathes well enough to wear well into the 60s. Below 25, I layer it under a Marmot shell and am good to 0 ( maybe lower) without looking like the Michelin Man. I'm 6'2", 180, 15.5 x 36 shirt, and this L fits great. I can layer a thin sweatshirt or sweater underneath. The long sleeves are perfect for cycling. I honestly cannot think of how it could be improved.
Great jacket, does what it says it will and looks really good. I'm 6'4" and had no problem with the length, fits perfect. Highly recommend this jacket.
I'm considering this jacket, but need something somewhat water repellent as well. I live in Washington!! Don't intend to be in downpours, but need it to withstand light rain for short periods. Will this work?
Hey Neighboor!!!!! :-)...this is not water repellant at all, more water absorbant than resistant actually. for our weather i LOVE the north face apex bionic jacket, its totally windproof and in my experience completley waterproof too (thats after a year of wear and about 20 washes)...its an awesome jacket and perfect for light to moderate rains.
I'm a 35 year old, 6'2", 250 male. I normally wear 17" neck, 36/37" sleeve dress shirt and a 38x36 dress pant. I bought the black, XXL from a different vendor online, and it was too big. I returned it but they didn't have the XL in black so I bought one here. (At a better price I might add!) This jacket, not fleece, runs fairly large; not grossly large but the body is more generous than other North Face fleece/jackets I've come across, a little on the baggy side. The sleeve length is at least an inch longer than what I feel comfortable wearing but could be helpful when skiing or working with your arms. The length of the body is great, sitting at about mid-hip. I was pleasantly surprised that the material was more of a shell material than fleece because it seems as if it'll outlast any fleece I've owned in the past. (Pilling sucks.) The logos are where you expect them and are bright white. Conclusion, Buy a size smaller than you normally wear and you should be fine. You wont be disappointed. If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
Its pretty bad... and depending on the color, its really noticeable... and difficult to clean off, even with a lint roller... if you have in-house pets, or are dealing with animals frequently, i would recommend a different jacket. Consider a soft shell with gore windstopper instead.
Yep, it stops the wind -- they're not joking. Was walking along the lake in downtown Chicago with 28mph gusts and I felt nothing. Not the warmest, but a long-sleeve shirt underneath or a thin sweater should be sufficient for a warmer winter day.
The cut is unusual. The sleeves are baggy and long, but the jacket runs short and baggy. I am 6' 175lbs and bought the large -- may return it and go for a medium instead. THE SIZING CHART IS WRONG ON SLEEVE LENGTH. (I wear 34/35 sleeves and this feels like a 36 or 37)
this jacket completely deflects wind, and insulates heat. once i was at bear creek, when the day suddenly turns from bright and shiny to a cold, windy and it started to thunder. i pulled out my wind wall, and no chills that night !
I'm 6'2", 185 lbs... wear 36" sleeved shirts.. .but the sizing says sleeve for L is 34.5... I have a L denali that fits fine... will this be OK also in the sleeves?
Im 6'3 200 lbs and the XL is def the size, especially with long arms. The fitting was actually a bit wide but with the draw strings it fits into the waist nicely. This is def not a winter jacket but does great to stop the wind. I use it for running, biking and around town wearing so its a great functional jacket. I got my girlfriend the womens windwall and she loves hers as well. It would have been 5 stars if the cut was more form fitting instead of square.
while TNF has become the "Armani" of wanna-be outdoor types trying to seem fit and upbeat while strolling the campus or the local mall, coffee shop, etc. try not to forget the big picture...TNF jackets and such are not designed to be casual wear even though they seem to be amuck in every javashop in town. I'm not trying to sound smug here, but did want to point something out that I think too many people miss when deciding on and ordering a TNF jacket is that the torso length IS going to be somewhat short. This is not a design flaw. It is a 'for real world outdoor environment design specification!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" TNF jackets are designed with layering in mind for outdoor conditions. Jacket torso lengths are going to be cut off right around the WAIST not HIPS!!!!! There is a very good reason behind that. If one uses a TNF jacket for its intended purpose (outdoor use, not looking cool and keeping in trend) then you want the torso length cut at the waist so when the weather turns and you have to break out your rain shell to layer over the jackets then you don't have to concern yourself with the bottom portion of the jacket getting all wet and defeating the purpose of your rain layer...ingenious ingenuity now isnt it?
once again, not trying to come off as a jack@$$, but I truly do get sick of people bashing TNF (and other outdoor companies) sizing designs because it doesn't fit their metro-java cafe, neiman marcus ways of thinking while purchasing a friggin backwoods outdoors piece of gear...not article of clothing...its gear to those of us in the know......sorry for rambling but hoping to help clarify this so called design flaw of TNF (and other outdoors outfitters)......
The jacket is everything I expected. Fits perfect, incredibly wind resistant, really soft, and just very comfortable to wear or take anyway. I would recommend this jacket to anyone.
Can someone provide the sleeve length for an XL size? Couple of the reviews say the sleeve lengths run long. Would really help in my purchase decision. Thanks.
did you think to look at the sizing chart provided on this page?Of course I did. But if you would have read the previous reviews like I did, you would've seen some that stated the sleeves tend to "run long". Just wanted to know if the actual sleeve lengths were any different from the "sizing chart". BTW, a lot of help your answer provided...not.
Great jacket especially at the discounted price. I'm 5'9" and the Lg fits just fine. Not bulky and not too form fitting. Makes for a nice layered piece when it gets too cold.
The drawstring is on the inside of the bottom. You can't even tell it has one when you wear it unless you pull it tight. I don't even use it and it fits nicely as is. The jacket fits to the torso well, almost a tailored look.
I've had this fleece jacket for about 3 weeks now and have had to use it in some seriously cold Colorado winds, and I have to say I'm 100% satisfied with this purchase. It has an almost tailored fit to it, so it looks good as well. It does block the wind nicely. I'm about to order another one in a different color, I like it so much.
it is the awsomest material ever!!!! it keeps u warm and cumfy. the part that seperates it from all other fleeces, is that it COMPLETLY KEEPS OUT THE WIND if you are hiking 2in windy wales, you completly stay warm in your North face windwall
In this City the weather changes like normal. This Jacket is perfect till it it about 30 but then it's a great insert for my other North Face Coats that I bought on line. This site Rules for me. hats, gloves, coats, boots, clothes as long as you know your size your good to go. Thanks!
This is hands down a great jacket. I am 5'7" 145 the small fits me perfectly. I live in Kansas and we get all kinds of weather here. In the few weeks I have had this jacket, we have had from 20 degrees with 30+ mph winds, to 80 degrees and sunny (no need for a jacket then). The Windwall has performed beautifully throughout. It is comfortable layered with a long sleeved t-shirt down to the 30's, and kept me warm well below freezing when layered with a light pull over. Wind does not get through this jacket. I add a water proof shell when it rains. The jacket has a good feel when wearing it, with just enough weight, and it is not bulky at all.
Hey I was seriosuly considering buying this fleece but im skeptical on if i should get a M or a L, being 175 lbs (skinny frame) and 6-1 on the height side.
I have had two of these in blue and in grey and I absolutely love them. I am 6'4" about 225lbs and the XL fits perfect on me. They are perfect for almost any climate. I can usually use them down to about 20 degrees if i wear a warm underlayer. They are also light enought to wear in early fall and late spring without getting overly warm.
This jacket does what it's supposed to and really keeps the wind out. Great jacket for those cold breezy days. I'm 5'10" 165 and the medium looks/fits great...like a tailored fit
whats the difference between this and the khumbu from TNF? i want the khumbu but i want something wind resistant. would this be good if im basically looking for a wind resistant khumbu?
I actually have both... the Khumbu is NOT wind resistant in the slightest. I've ridden my bike around campus with both of these fleeces, and I won't use the Khumbu on a cold day anymore. Its basically like you're not wearing a fleece at higher speeds. The this would be the same effect if the wind were 15-20mph and you were standing still.
The fleece itself is denser, and I would say softer, than the Khumbu's 200 weight fleece, but the jacket is also more expensive!
According to TNF website the average weight is 21.5 oz. It is a pretty lightweight jacket (with the 100 weight fleece) but keeps you warm by not letting the wind in.
I was very, very pleased with the coat I got for my son.I had ordered one coat, and it was too short at the waist,so I sent it back with no problem and ordered the one he really wanted. It came on time and he LOVES it!!! Customer service was great also. Thanks and I'm sure we'll do business with them again. Also my son says that it feels great, sometimes too good. :)
The jacket works just like it says. Stops the wind and keeps you warm while remaining lightweight. My only problem is that the body of the jacket is a little short if you are tall.
i ordered this jacket for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it, he never takes it off! he was so stoked when he opened it and i was proud to finally find something that fit his 6'2 280 lb frame. it's barely been a month and i know i got my moneys worth. thanks a lot!
Love everything about this jacket except the price!!! This is a great under layer for skiing/snowboarding. It keeps me toasty on the cold days and when it gets a little warm out its breathable so you wont get to hot. Going up the lifts my buddies kept complaining they were freezing because of the wind chill. I on the other hand had no complaints the windwall 2 did its job! It is a little itchy at first but after a wash its fine. When I wear this one out I will buy another.
I ordered this as a post-Christmas present for my husband, who has wanted a TNF product for a while, but too cheap to invest. Besides that, he is about the pickiest person when it comes to his clothing, but he absolutely loves this. The quality is evident from the get-go. It is med-weight and has a mesh-like lining (I am not sure the product description makes that clear). The quality is superb. Backcountry was awesome to deal with too.
let me start by saying your customer service is great! my 15 year old son chose this jacket. the fabric was not "fleecy" enough for him. we have reordered and love the new jacket. thanks
I ordered this jacket as a chirstmas present 3 weeks before christmas. After two weeks i hadnt received it, so i called and was told it would be shipped immediately. Two days later, less than a week before christmas, i received an email saying the jacket was out of stock. I was furious. When i ordered it, there were 5 in stock. I told the customer service man that, and he said the website isnt always updated correctly. I wont be buying from here again. I have less than a week before christmas, and i dont know what im going to do for a present now. I am furious.
