The North Face Free Thinker Pant - Men's - 2007

Ideal for 100+ day skiers and heli-ski guides, The North Face Men's Free Thinker Pant uses the burliest Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric available and a unique polymer infusion method to reinforce high wear areas. The Pro Shell uses a woven backing to cut weight and improve durability, and The North Face uses a polymer infusion technique to reinforce areas around zippers and pockets—the areas of the jacket that receive the most abuse. This creates an incredibly durable jacket that is still lightweight and flexible. This drop seat, waterproof breathable pant's detachable high back and suspenders keep the snow out on powder days, while The North Face's chimney venting system keeps air flowing through the pant while hiking. A RECCO reflector built into the Free Thinker pant may help ski patrol find you in an in-bounds avalanche.

Bottom Line: The North Face Free Thinker Pant—designed by over-caffeinated engineers for over-achieving mountain athletes.

one of the best

Overall, this is one of the best bibs I've ever worn. It fits well and is true to size. The only two gripes I have are that the zipper around the drop seat is a little drafty so it's hard to ride in these without long underwear on (layering with these is a must), and that the leg gaiter needs to be wider. My Burton Driver X boots barely fit inside them. Other than that, I love them and would definitely tell others to buy them.

Decent Pant

These are pretty solid pants. The GoreTex Pro Shell is good but I have since moved on to eVent fabric which provides better breathability with the same waterproofing as GoreTex. But a reliable pant for sure.

Girls can wear these too

By:
May 28, 2008

I am a woman and I bought the men's small size because I couldn't find any women's north face pants that were just as good with the back covering/dungaree style and with Gore Tex too. Up to now I had been wearing the NF women's insulated freedom pants so I was surprised to be honest when I found I was still warm just by wearing the Freethinker Pant and my usual Helly Hansen base layer, that I'd been wearing with the insulated Freedom pants. They really do keep the wind out and are completely waterproof and I like the fact that the back covering comes right up your back and keeps the snow and the wind out. That is probably why they feel warm and cozy. I am wearing them in Europe mind you so if I was in the US/Canada I would need to put more layers on. I don't use the pockets in the pants but they are adequate. The only thing I would say is that I don't like the back seat drop, they can get rid of that next time for all I care, and the gaiters on the legs are a bit too small too easily stretch them over your ski boots. Apart from that then it's a really good set up. The men's small fitted me fine I'm normally a womens medium in TNF gear. I have just bought the Freethinker jacket to match which is also great in a Men's small in a nice green colour although the sleeves are a smidgen too long for me.

Well Worth the Price

I bought these pants to match my Free Thinker jacket for a Colorado ski trip. The pants keep you dry, but they are not insulated, so make sure to layer up for the conditions. The pants are well worth the money and pair up well with the North Face Free Thinker jacket (I've got the white one).

Great features but poor fit for me

By:
January 15, 2008

I tried these pants on in a North Face store but they only had the Medium and XXLarge (way to big for me). The medium fit pretty well, but was too short so I ordered the Large from Backcountry.com. Great pocket placement, very rugged material, I liked the drop seat design for when nature calls, but unfortunately the drop seat design also resulted in one key fit issue for me. They were way too big in the waiste, hips, and thighs. Seems like there was a bigger than normal difference between the Medium and Large. I am pretty average size as I wear a 33waist x 34inseam in most any brand of jean and I am 6' 165lbs. In any event I also had ordered the Cloudveil - Koven Pant in a large which fit much better and has turned out to be a great ski pant without paying the extra $$'s for TNF brand and Recco reflector since I already have one in my jacket and most ski resorts still aren't equiped & trained to get much benefit from the Recco anyway. In any event the TNF Free Thinker Pant was found to be very well made and well thought out, just didn't fit me so I returned it and am just awaiting the credit to be posted to my card. BC.com was very easy to return product also - way to go!
