The North Face Chilkats Winter Boot - Men's - 2007
The North Face Men's Chilkats are warm, insulated winter boots you'll love to chill in. If you live anywhere that experiences winter and you own only a single pair of boots, the waterproof Chilkats should be that pair. The North Face designed the soft, tacky Winter Grip rubber outsoles specifically to grab onto slick, wet surfaces, helping you stay upright. The double-adhesive latex seam sealing foils the elements' every attempt to get into your boots. On arctic days, Primaloft insulation keeps your feet warmer than down would, and the Dri-Lex fleece lining wicks moisture away from your foot. Hook your gaiters to the Chilkats' D-rings to further ensure that snow stays outta your boot. Injection-molded shank plates provide support and stability, and EVA midsoles cushion as you negotiate snow and ice. For this caliber of boot, the Chilkats are a steal.
Bottom Line: The North Face Chilkats Boots are a must-have for walking in wet, slick, cold winter conditions.
Bought a pair of these for a snowmobiling trip. Added footwarmers to my pack but never had to use them.
We rode for five days with morning starting out at -15F and my toes were never once cold. My only complaint is the weight - you wouldn't want to winter hike in these.
I wouldn't worry as much with an insulated boot. You are right that sizing does vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer, but insulated boots will never be as precise of a fit as other types of footwear. Based on reviews, I went up half a size in the pull on version of these boots and found that they're a good fit with thick winter socks. That said, I probably could have gone with my regular size. If you sometimes have to size up, then I would size up in this boot just to be safe.As for a direct answer to your question of how sizes are calculated, each manufacturer calculates them slightly differently. If it's a real concern that you'll get the wrong size, then try to find them locally. Or you could order from Zappos since they pay for shipping on returns. However, they only take returns for unworn shoes. Backcountry has a much more liberal return policy.
it was time for a new winter boot. I did a lot of research. Chilkats seemed the best buy for the price. after a few hard weeks of trudging in lots of snow, cold, ice and slush the Chilkats have proved their worth to me. My feet are always comfortably warm, dry and not damp. The chilkats grip well in groomed/ungroomed snow and icy surfaces. I consider them more than adequate and a great buy for the price. happy slogging!
I bought these boots to work construction in. I've had them a little over a month. My feet stay warm on the coldest days. I really enjoy these boots. The only complaint with them is that I got a lot of rub around the very top of the boot on my legs. During the first week by the end of the day my legs were rubbed quite badly. But now that my legs are used to them I don't notice them at all.
This is my first boots, and i have used these in mine winter trek to North Sikkim and we had all type of weather condition, cold, snow, mud... and result was excellent....... i will repeat the same next time..
Bought a pair of these for a general pair of boots to wear around in town and the house while visiting my family in Iowa. Boots performed excellently in 1 1/2 feet of snow and temperatures as low as -30*F. Feet never got cold and never got wet and never feel like I was going to slip on packed snow with ice underneath. Overall an excellent boot for the features and the amazing price. Highly recommend purchasing these for a general boot if heading into cold, snowy conditions
My ranking is really not reflective of the quality, warmth or durability of this boot, just the fit. I have a wide foot, and even a size larger than normal cramped my foot and toes. I just couldn't wear them. Too bad, I really liked the boot. I ended up with a Columbia product from a local shoe store. Similar & same size/price but much different fit.
I bought these boots for my husband. He works outside in the snow and slush and he said that out of all the boots he has owned, these have kept his feet the warmest and driest. Very highly recommended!!!
Sick for sloshing around in the woods, through mud, snow, and super warm. I actually bought these things to wear with snowshoes in upstate NY which they are awesome for, but they work as a great all purpose winter boot as well.
I use these boots to walk the dogs in the winter along this river side trail by my house. I could not ask for a better boot. I generally wear a 8 1/2 and I got a 9 in these so I could wear thicker socks and they fit great. I have also used these boots for snowshoeing, they work great for that too.
this site delivered as advertised. Everything arrived on time, in good shape and company did a nice job following up to ensure good customer satisfaction.
The boots are warm, waterproof and made very well BUT they left my shins in pain. The front of each shin was rubbed red and in pain after a brief outing. I tried breaking them in by hand, tucking the pant leg and even different lace techniques to no avail.
I bought these boots for alaska, thinking they would be perfect, dont get me wrong theyre pretty good boots, until about 0 degrees. Thats when the cut out. There isnt enough insulation in the boot to keep your feet warm, and they werent really good for what I was doing. If your going to be out in negative degree weather, I'd make another choice, go with something more thoroughly insulated.
I bought these from backcountry from across the pond as the UK suppliers had already switched to the summer range shoes. I was well impressed with the delivery service and it was worth paying the extra taxes and delivery charges to get them in time for my ice-diving trip in russia. The shoes were amazingly snug but not heavy at all. Kept my feet really try and the anti-slip sole was perfect for walking on ice !! The only issue I had was that they were not appropriate for deep snow walking as the snow sometimes got into the shoe. But then I wanted a pair of shoes that I could use on different terrains and not just snow conditions. It was ideal. Thanks for the excellent service :))
I bought The North Face Chilkats because they were inexpensive and I needed a warm, waterproof winter boot for kicking around in the winter. At first they gave me some shin bang (actually on the front of the ankle) but that seems to be going away now that they are getting broken in. They are super warm and water proof. They are actually pretty lightweight too.
Super comfortable, in fact, which for me is unusual in a good winter boot. There was no breaking in required. I've been wearing them during my winter outdoors construction job, roofing. They being very heavy duty and hardcore, stiff enough for hard work but still comfortable, they've done me well, as well as snowshoeing. Although I must say my toes have gotten cold during the slow moments of roofing. Perhaps a slightly larger size would keep 'em warmer...but there's the trade-off with fit and warmth. In the end, though, a fantastic pair of boots. So much so that I bought a pair for a friend, a horseman. He tears these suckers up in the snowy, muddy mountain trails, tending the horses. He loves 'em.
