When you're high on the mountain with rain clouds looming, zip into the lightweight and waterproof The North Face Men's Venture Parka. The ripstop HyVent DT fabric and fully sealed seams protect you from the elements while remaining breathable, so you can trek through the rain without feeling stifled. Unzip the underarm vents and improve airflow when you start your uphill climb. Pull up the hood and keep your head dry when the rain starts coming down. As the weather clears, pack the super-light Venture Parka back in your pack and enjoy the sunshine.
Bottom Line: Zip into the lightweight, waterproof North Face Venture Parka and head out into the world.
I went down to the local REI and took a look at this rain coat. It is paper thin and really not intended for insulation. I was really pleased with the fabric as I'll usually be wearing a base layer and wouldn't want too much additional bulk on while I'm hiking in spring/summer months. I'm 6' 6" and have a tough time with length but have no problems with this jacket. I would recommend the jacket as a light rain coat but not as an insulating layer.
I needed a waterproof lightweight shell for my khumbu fleece, and I think I found it. I bought this parka because The North Face jackets run short and would be shorter in the waist then the fleece. This parka (which covers the backside) is going fill the bill.
This item is listed as a parka. It only has a one way zipper so that if you want to sit down with the parka partially zipped it is very awkward, Also there is no liner. The waterproof lining is against your skin and uncomfortable and sweaty. It seems as if North Face was trying to save money by not using a two way zipper on a parka length jacket and omitting the mesh liner most other waterproof jackets/parkas have.
I'm 5'10" weigh 210 and wear a 46 jacket. I'm looking for something primarily to commute in and occasionally to ski in. What size should I get and how long would it be (since its a parka)?
I have several Venture jackets. I was in one out in the ocean off the coast of NH yesterday- 45F at the start, with an added bite from the boat moving over cold ocean water, the Venture kept the spray from saturating me.. It's a very good combination of light weight, flexibility, while providing water and wind resistance. Use in combination with a light fleece jacket, one can manage 3/4 of the foul weather that we encounter in New England, from hiking the damp Presidentials, to kayaking the harbors, to fishing off the coast. I find it to be a great jacket to carry and have on hand while traveling as well.
Looking for a good waterproof jacket for a decent price. Have looked at TNF Venture jacket, Marmot Precip and Patagonia Rain Shadow. Looking for something a bit heavier than Venture & Precip, perhaps similar in weight/warmth to TNF Mountain Light. Any suggestions?
This isn't a bad jacket. You might check out some of the stuff from Mountain Hardwear, GoLite and backcountry.com. I've had some from each and they're all really nice jackets. I think my favorite has been the Backcountry.com for fit, breathability and waterproofness.Hope that helps.
Excellent fit and water resistance, well tested when caught in the rain during a 6km walk. Clothing under the parka remained dry. Great vent positions also.
Our family has two of these jackets now. It is perfect for rain, wind and cold. It can be worn alone when it is chilly and wet and worn over a fleece when it is colder. Wind does not penetrate this coat. My husband likes to wear it to windy, rainy football games and my son wears his a lot to walk to class at college. It has many uses especially when used over other layers.
This jacket is incredible. Super light and folds down into its own left pocket so you can pack it very small. Really comfortable and sheds water like nothing else. Hyvent material is incredible. Will fit any body any shape any size because of the elastic cords on the hood, waist, and velcro on the wrists. If you are someone who has to deal with lots of wet conditions get this jacket immediately. Great value for price.
I am really pleased with my North Face Venture. Its a great jacket for the price, provides good protection in a rain shower, and is light and packable. I found the venting feature to work very well. On top of that, its a nice looking jacket that fits well without being too big or bulky.
I ordered this jacket before Christmas for use as an every day rain/snow shell that wasn't bulky like a parka. I used it for about a week in a freak PNW winter storm when I noticed that the DWR finish was simply not working. By not working I mean that during a rain storm the entire jacket developed large splotches of wetness on the shoulders and on the front. Since I had never washed it I knew that this was not a case of needing to re-apply a new coat of DWR, but perhaps a case of never having applied correctly from the factory so I sent the jacket back to BC.com for a replacement. They replaced the jacket no questions asked. In-fact they sent a new one to me before I had the chance to send the other one back. That's good service as far as I'm concerned. So far the replacement is dong fine-sheds water like I expect it to. Thanks BC for the great service.
Very well constructed, relatively lightweight rain jacket that's good for all seasons. Best I've found. Sure, wish it breathed a bit better but I've yet to find a rain jacket that can actually do this (if it keeps the rain out, it also keeps most of the sweat in). I have both the regular venture (for warmer weather) and the parka venture (for cooler weather) and am very happy with both.
Jacket is excellent for a very lightweight breathable rain jacket. I use it for riding to work in my work clothes on my bicycle in spring and summer rains.
Very fine jacket. I live in Denmark, and we had no winter, but rain, rain and more rain. Now it doesn't matter anymore. And the best - when it is not raining, the jacket is so easy to pack, and it weighs nothing.
