The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Polarguard - 2007

With soft breathable silken lining, The North Face Cat's Meow 20-Degree Sleeping Bag keeps you cozy and warm on those spring nights and crisp fall dawns. Pack this synthetic mummy bag into your backpack and hit the trail. Overlapping shingle construction eliminates cold spots by evenly distributing the synthetic insulation, keeping you warm throughout all your three-season mountaineering adventures. A no-snag zipper column prevents you from spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to zip up the Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag, and the one-hand pull cord quickly adjusts the hood, so you can hop in and get warm quickly. Store your watch in the head-level zipper pocket and wake up on time for your first ascent. Not only do you get a stuffsack with your Cat's Meow Bag, but The North Face also included a nylon mesh bag to help preserve the insulation's loft during long term storage.

Bottom Line: For your three-season backpacking trips, The North Face 20-Degree Sleeping Bag is simply the Cat's Meow.

Cool bag, dumb name!

By:

I was looking for a new bag, and it seemed like everyone was praising this one. I didn't have alot of time to do more research, so I picked this one up. I am extremely happy with it. It packs well and is very light for a synthetic bag. However I don't think it performs to the rated temp. It did well for me in a bug shelter in the guadalupe mountains, with pretty high winds. It got to 31 degrees and i was pretty comfortable, but a few more degrees and I would've been miserable. I would definitely recommend it for camping in above freezing temps.

Plenty Warm Enough with Liner

By:
January 3, 2008

I got the bag this Christmas and used it within a few days along with a very thin "see-through" bag liner in what had been soaking wet weather hen it just dropped to around 5-10 degrees F on the AT. Pad was simple roll up foam pad. Previous winter hikes with a 20 deg below, 30 year old Polarguard bag, I had to use chemical hand and foot warmers to get through the nights. This trip the bag/liner system alone kept me plenty warm. Probably close to pushing limits of warmth without hand/foot warmers. However, I was glad temps didn't drop to -10, as this system probably wouldn't have been warm enough. Compression capability and light weight of bag and liner system was great! Happy for now. Real test will be if still happy with system in 5 years.

OK but not up to rep

By:

Stuffs small and is light for synthetic. The collar and hood when cinched bunches up so bad it lets air(cold) in. The draft collar is too small and totally worthless when the collar is cinched. I noticed air getting past the zipper draft tube in places. The zipper is better than most but not snag free. I have not used it below 32 (warm winter this year) and it did OK. I am anxious to see if is warm at 20. I have heard both pros and cons on warmth.

Warm Bag

I really enjoy this bag. I am 6'1 and around 180 lbs and the regular works just fine. I think that if I were a 3-4 inches taller I would go with the long. It is nice and snug, but still allows me to move around a bit. I suggest a nice sleeping pad to go with the bag. Overall, the bag kept me warm while I was backpacking through southern Utah's slot canyons in early March. Great bag.

Nice bag!

Borrowed this from a friend of mine while waiting for my gear to return from Alaska. This was very warm, easy to zip and did the job very nicely in the Uinta's for a 3 day stint. Get the Left and Right zip and you can zip them together. Sick sleeping bag from The North Face!
