The North Face Amplitude Triclimate Jacket - Men's - 2007
When it's absolutely freezing but you're heading out anyway, complement your hardcore attitude with some serious warmth. Take The North Face Men's Amplitude Triclimate Jacket along for a ride through the trees as you tour some rugged terrain on your new boards. This waterproof, seam-sealed wonder has a zip-in, easily compressible Triclimate Quilted Heatseeker liner, offering stellar warmth without the burden of a bulky, heavy fleece. Flip up the removable hood or tighten the hem cinch cord, and keep out the cold. When the sun hits the mountain, zip out the fleece for a breathable shell and let in some air with the pit zip vents.
Bottom Line: The North Face Men's Amplitude Triclimate Jacket is a compilation of warm layers you can shed when the weather is fine.
When I was reading the reviews for this jacket, I noticed no one commented on the temperature(in degrees) to truly give a sense of how well you would be protected. Well now I've purchased the jacket and I'm letting you know. I've worn this jacket in 15 degree (Fahrenheit) weather with the winshield making it feel like 8. The wind actually penetrated my pants and the sweats underneath, but not the jacket. This protection is great!! All you will need in case your hands and ears are sensitive like mine is a hat and glove set. The wind will not penetrate the jacket!!
Would this jacket be able to keep me warm in temps such as -30 or even colder; or would I have to wear another layer when I am out in the cold winter months. Seeing how I live up in Canada this is one of my questions that I have about this jacket.
I don't think anything short of an insulated full body suit's gonna keep you warm at -30. You're talking Fahrenheit right? I hang out at the bus stop in this jacket at 5-10F and the jacket keeps me relatively warm. read relatively. any exposed skin is still colder than a republican. It's strenght is it's versatility. Rain jacket, 30F plus liner, or together a very warm above zero jacket. Order it and try it out. If it's too weak return it, you're out $20.
I love The North Face jackets. I always look for outerwear that it not too baggy through the torso and lower near the hips. The cut on North Face jackets are more snug in these areas but still plenty of room in the shoulders and chest. It is a bit snug on the armpits but not uncomfortable. Also I tend to be between sizes, an XL is usually a little too big and a L is usually a little too snug. North Face seems to run a little big on sizes, so a L fits perfectly. This is a great (warm) jacket for the price. The removable liner feature is awesome. The only problem is that the liner does not have a pocket on the inside so when the liner and shell are zipped together there is no inside pocket which I usually use for my wallet when skiing. It was recommended to me by some friends. I like to shop around when purchasing gear and ALWAYS find myself returning here. The prices can't be beat and the service and delivery are amazing (not to mention the goat sticker that comes with your gear, which is now displayed on the window of my car).
i would recommend any one looking for either a ski jacket or even a day to day use to buy this jacket. Looks great easy to loose heat with the pit zips which rapidly loose any extra heat you need to shead. If you are buying from the U.K be aware that another $75 on top of the price shown will be addded for the shipping. Even with this i would still reccomend this to anyone it's a great all round jacket that looks cool aswell
This 3-jackets-in-one coat is very nice. The first layer insulates well and is a great coat for 40-55 degree days. The combo of both of them is extremely good for blocking wind, and the hood is ingenious in the way that it conforms to your head with several different adjustments. Plenty of pockets and great attention to detail makes me completely satisfied. It might not be the latest and greatest from the high-end gear makers, but I don't ski every day so this is a nice compromise.
I bought this jacket for my teenage son & he really likes it! We did have to exchange for the next size up---it seemed to run small for what he would normally wear, but he also wanted room to wear layers under it. He used it right away for going skiing and the versatility of the jacket made it a great purchase! Would highly recommend.
Could this jacket also serve well in springtime transitional times in rainey Pacific Northwest climates? Seems to be the ideal jacket. Just didn't want to think it was overkill.
Yes it would be great the zip out inner jacket leaves you with a very light wieght over jacket. Perfect to keep the rain of. If it does get a bit windy and chilly simply zip the inner back in for a more robust warmer layer.
This is a good, solid jacket. I bought this to keep me warm in the coldest Minnesota winter, and I wasn't disappointed. The shell is great on wind/water, and I wear it in the spring now when it's windy. The liner is also a good spring/fall jacket, and all together it's downright toasty. TNF doesn't ever blow me away, but it's solid. Other brands, like Patagonia, have provided me with better quality from top to bottom, but they are pricier. You get what you pay for, and this is a solid, versatile and stylish jacket.
I own several The North Face jackets, and they just keep getting better and better. I'm a Manhattanite and this jacket is great to getting around town during these cold wet winter months. Would recommend this product to anyone.
I just took this jacket with me on a 9 day back-packing excursion through Europe and I loved it (both the jacket and the trip). I was so happy that I had purchased the Amplitude jacket becuase it kept me warm and dry! I found the pull-strings at the waist to be very helpful in keeping the jacket snug especially when carrying my 4900 cf pack on my back. The neck of the jacket is pretty stiff, but when fully zipped up the fleece lining at the top is nice to cover your chin with when the wind kicks up. At the new sale price this jacket is a no brainer!!! The staff has been incredible...I originally purchased the cardinal red jacket, but about 5 days before leaving for my trip I decided to exchange it for the black jacket. They were able to get it to me before I left for Europe which was great! Enjoy the jacket and most of all enjoy working with the Staff!!!!
What's the waterproof rating? I'm comparing the NF vortex(25psi) 3in1 with the Amplitude(60psi).Which of the liner is warmer? Is the heatseeker fleece warmer than the lining in the Vortex? My son is 5'6'' and weighs 130lbs. What size should he get cause reviews said the jackets run small?
I'm interested in the North Face Amplitude Triclimate Jacket - Men's and wanted to know if you thought it would be overkill in rainey but not so much snowy climates of the Pacific Northwest. I would also use it at the coast a lot.
I took this jacket skiing in Vermont the first weekend that I had it. I was warm at -16 F on top of the mountain and stayed dry as I rolled down.(im not exactly a pro at skiing) I also wear this jacket on my motorcycle as it is great at blocking wind and water.
This is a replacement for an older T.N.F. jacket that was stolen. I am very happy with this purchase and will only buy T.N.F. Jackets from now on. Has all of the features that I want and keeps me warm and dry.
MY WIFE GOT ME THIS JACKET AND THIS IS THE WARMEST AND BEST LOOKING JACKET EVER. WHAT I LOVE ARE ALL THE POCKETS AND THE 3-IN-1 SO YOU CAN CHANGE LOOKS
I received jacket by standard mail 3 days after online purchase. Most of my jackets are North Face. Shell is awesome color, high quality, and well fit. The jacket liner however, is too light weight in the arms and it is like wearing a vest. Your torso is warm but your arms are very cool. I give the jacket combo 5 out of 10 and would have rated it much higher had the zip in liner provided better insulation in the arms.
I have loved my coat that I purchased on line... I really am impressed by the quality and how easy it was to buy. Shipping was quick and the live chat people were very helpful and informative. Great buy!
I LOVE this jacket. I have owned Columbia jackets before but North Face has a better product. The service and the shipping from this site was great. They sent me the right model, right size and the right color. I just place another order with this place for my wife's jacket. I highly recommend this site.
It is not very thick jacket, but it is very warm. and water proof. But for black jacket which I bought, it gets kind of easily dirty because dust can be easily seen with black color.
This is a very nicely made coat. I'm wearing it now and have been every day. It's 2 jackets in 1, and the black color along with the design truly makes this coat the "ideal" coat. Thank you North Face and Backcountry for making this purchase possible.
this jacket is the bomb! i was caught in a rainy and windy day, and i've never felt so warm and dry. this is the best jacket i've ever got ! I LOVED IT.
Versatile jacket with removable liner and hood. The North Face line seems to run small and my jacket is not as comfortable with the liner in and a heavy shirt underneath. The XL size was way too large, so this seems like a sizing quirk. I generally love the jacket and find the quality unmatched by Columbia or other makes.
I bought this jacket in black/grey for my dad after I bought a triclimate for myself, and he loves it! He wears it with his khumbu jacket (it's great b/c it of the zip-in compatibility). It's versatile allowing multiples uses.
I really like this jacket because it is multi-functional. Being you can wear it 3 ways - it is perfect for how the day progresses. Great buy - even bought one for a gift because I loved it so much!
This jacket is absolutely worth every penny. I bought it to go snowboarding and for those cold NYC nights, and it's been great so far. The zip in feature is great, fits well, and has pockets galore... Highly recommended, if you want to stay warm and dry.
i love how it can be a winter/ski jacket, then a rain jacket, then a fleece jacket. works great. simple to change back and forth. i like how the hood is adjustable. highly recommended.
I think this is a great coat - comfortable and very warm. It's great to have 3 coats in one! I agree with some of the other posts that say that The North Face sizes run a little smaller than normal and that it's kind of a waste of a pocket to have the inside chest pocket on the outer shell. But, overall, I recommend this coat to anyone looking for a well made, warm coat.
This is a great coat. It really keeps the wind and rain out. Ordering was easy and fast. Everything arrived on-time and in great condition. Size and color were also correct.
This lightweight jacket works great for everything from casual wear, camping, and hiking (with just the inner fleece liner) to skiing and winter motorcycle rides (with the windbreaking shell zipped on). It kept me comfortable and warm even with the wind chill. The versatility is great and allows you to stay comfortable in a variety of climates and the detachable hood provides even more versatility. For snow skiing, this jacket is every bit as good as, if not better than the Spyder and Columbia jackets I've come to appreciate so much.
Awesome jacket! I'm 6'2" 220 lbs and the XL fits me perfectly. The zipper system that makes it a 3-in-1 is excellent. The jacket is plenty warm and the construction is high quality. I ordered this yesterday with Next Day shipping for a snowboarding trip this weekend. I am wearing the jacket 24 hours after my order. Thanks, you saved the day when my local ski shop couldn't deliver!! You have a new customer for life.
I have never written a review before this, but I read all the reviews before I placed my order and I have to say that both the jacket, order process, and follow up has been superb. My son loves his jacket and I am very happy with the entire transaction. I will definitely buy from you again!
Very well built. This jacket maintains a uniform body temperature from minus zero conditions through the 30's and into the 40's. My body size bordered the large / xlarge size. Tried both, I use layering so I went with the xlarge. The folks at Backcountry provide superior support and are great to work with!
this jacket is great!. it is so warm and waterproof and lets absolutely no wind through it. its awesome for skiing and i would highly recommend it as a normal great winter coat or ski jacket either way this jacket wont let you down!
The jacket is great. Looks great, it's warm with the quality you would expect from The North Face. Best of all was I received my jacket a few days later. Will order more supplies from site.
I brought this jacket for my college son who lives in the DC jacket. The multi-purpose part of the jacket is as advertised. The shell is water proof, and he wore last weekend in the rain without the lining. We have other NF products, and will therefore allow him to zip them into this jacket as well. In sum, we believe he could use this jacket for 6 months of the year. This is the third time we purchased from this site (all NF products), and we're happy to mention that service and delivery has been executed in the utmost professional manner. L L
Got the jacket for snowboarding and general outdoor use. Not dissappointed, when the slopes are warm take out the lining, when it's chilly put it in and stay cosy. The only design flaw with this jacket is the cuffs, they are uncomfortable, and the Velcro strap on them is weak and comes undone easily. Otherwise great!
This is an awesome jacket - my husband used it in Tahoe last weekend and was quite pleased. Plenty of useful pockets, good temperature control with the vents and zipout lining, and good colors. He wears the zipout lining as a jacket on its own, and likes that it's not just a fleece. Great job - we love it!
I've had this jacket for a few weeks now and it is very comfortable and the quality if very good. It's very warm which is needed for the winter months in the upper Midwest.
The only reason this jacket doesn't get a 5 out of 5 is the fact that there isn't an inner breast pocket on the inner lining. There is such a pocket on the shell so if you split the jacket and are just wearing the outer shell you will find it but when its fully zipped together you obviously cannot get to it.
Overall I've very happy with this jacket and the prices was good compared to the other sites and retial stores.
Pros: The jacket itself is awesome! - There are enough pockets, vents, pull-strings, & wearable combinations to satisfy you throughout the year. - Interchangeable lining with my Mens Denali Fleece Hoodie, size Large. - Havent hit ski trails yet, but outer shell is wind resistant, so this jacket will keep you warm. - It is lightweight & strong. Great general use jacket!
Cons: Not many cons for this general purpose jacket. - Jacket does not have a snow skirt, so wont protect against downhill spill. However, does have pull-strings to tighten bottom of jacket to desirable size. - Hood works great & detaches easily but dont expect wonders. Its thin, so in winter dont rely solely on it for warmth. However, it has two pull-strings to dilate it on your face & one on back of hood to tighten around ur scalp.
Ur getting a jacket with 3 in 1 functionality. Many jackets out there only provide 1 function, solely winter or a light jacket, & they cost as much, or more, as Amplitude Triclimate! Winter = 3 months. Fall + Winter + Spring = 9 months. For under $200, would you rather use jacket for only 3 months out of the year, or 9 months out of the year? Definitely get more bang for your buck w/ this jacket!
This jacket is everything I expected it would be. Great warmth, kept out the wind and snow too. The liner zips in and out without any problem. The fit is super. I skied 4 hard days in Aspen, including some big powder, right after getting the jacket and it performed flawlessly.
My older son loves his jacket. It's handsome, versatile and tough. Never have had a 3-in-1 style before; what a great idea. Must commend the service I received from you - wonderfully helpful, cheery staff and quick delivery. You'll definitely hear from us again!
North Face does it again. However, I must note it is pressed to keep me "totally" warm when the temps drop in the 20's and below. However, with an additional vest, it is good to go!!
This jacket runs at least one full size small. My son is 5'7" and normally wears a medium men's shirt. After trying a large on at a local retailer, we bought the XL jacket and it fits perfectly.
see my last review on the Ice Jacket #2. This jacket could be a nice one if the main zipper wasn't plastic * which came apart after zipping it only twice!~ )and the arms weren't so small. ( You need tooth picks and no muscles for this arm to fit right.) It could rate a ten but with these small yet Major faults for the price, even on sale I would give it a 2 or 3. North Face really needs supervision and some quality control over the making of these jackets. Asia isn't gettin' it guys.... I am very disapointed.
