The North Face Women's DIAD Jacket weights only 6.1 ounces and provides full weather protection, making it a great choice for weight-conscious alpine climbers and mountaineers. By using welded Magic Seam construction The North Face eliminated every stitch from the DIAD jacket. The welded seams were then sealed with ultra-thin 10mm tape to improve waterproofing and decrease weight even further. The DIAD jacket has only a chest pocket, so it won't interfere with your harness or backpack waist-belt. Made with 2.5-layer waterproof breathable DT HyVent fabric, the DIAD jacket is guaranteed to keep you dry when you're battling through a mountain storm.
Bottom Line: The North Face Women's DIAD Jacket provides the weather protection you need without the weight.
I'm happy I found this very light rain jacket with adjustable, hook-and-loop cuffs, so I can regulate my arm ventilation. The sleeves are long enough to keep your wrist dry, also when reaching (climbing) or cycling, which is rare. It has a perfect fit, not 'relaxed', which would mean extra material, making noise and slowing you down while cycling. It could be a bit longer, but that's a matter of taste, the version for men is a bit longer. Armpit-ventilation is almost as good as napoleon-pocket ventilation. I stop looking for better jackets for some years, finally. Thanks North Face!
I had to give this jacket a 5 because it's so lightweight and packs down so small. Also I like how the hood cinches up. It's 100% waterproof, and I had it on during a snowstorm once, and it was pretty windproof too.
Lighter than most jackets. Rainproof and windproof, so I don't freeze when temp suddenly drops. Wish there were pockets, but I think the lack of seams makes it better in more temps and better fit than most jackets. The arm pits don't rub like some jackets. I'm 5'4",short torso-Size S is not too long, doesn't catch when run. Really good fit for running, including full movement of shoulder area. I also use Marmot Driclime jacket for colder conditions. Similar good fit.
I've been using the Diad Jacket for several weeks now; I use it for work, running, hiking, a just a good outdoor lightweight jacket. The like the compactness, and the ventilation zippers under the arms. The one chest pocket is good, but I could use some hand pockets. The lack of hand pockets, and the ability to stuff the jacket into one of the pockets is a downer. Another problem is the price. I find the jacket too expensive for what you get. I live in Europe, and had to order the jacket from the states because North Face Europe doesn't have the same products as the states do. I do like the service from this site, and the speed of delivery was great. I'm also glad that I was able to get the color I wanted, because not all of the companies have the all of the colors offered in this product from TNF. Anyway, I can give the product a 4 rating at best, because of the lack of hand pockets, and the price.
I could have probably stopped at the title because it explains it all, but I'll elaborate. The DIAD is ultra-lightweight and packable to a small pocket in a camelbak. It works well in a deluge, or even a light sprinkle. It took a bit to get used to the lack of pockets, but it gives clean lines and is really appealing.
This jacket is REALLY nice. Its definitely not cheap, but so lightweight that it feels like there is a water repelling force-field around you. The orange is a great color. I did note the lack of hand pockets, but it was actually kind of nice because I usually put so much crap in those pockets they're annoying and jingly. The one pocket is enough for a few bucks and keys if necessary.
