The North Face Rolling Thunder - 4880-8400 cu in - 2007
The North Face Rolling Thunder Duffel Bag combines reinforced inline skate wheels that roll smoothly and consistently with a go-cart frame and aluminum chassis to support heavy loads. North Face introduced two sizes of the Rolling Thunder so you can bring everything you need for an extended weekend or longer. The medium version includes a steel kickstand that allows the bag to stand on end and a retractable handle for easy trips between terminals. Wing handles on both sizes make for easy towing and lashing to roof racks. The Rolling Thunder is built with the same water- and abrasion-resistant materials as The North Face's legendary Base Camp Duffel.*Large size does not have retractable handle or kickstand.
Bottom Line: Whether you're setting out for a major expedition or pack like you are, The North Face Rolling Thunder easily moves tons of gear.
The bag itself is good but it doesn't have the collapsible handle indicated in the picture. The picture should be noted that this size bag doesn't come with a handle.
This bag has everything I ever wanted in a rolling duffel. It is super sturdy and can take a beating. The material is water resistant so if it gets left out in the rain your stuff wont get soaked. You wont believe how much stuff can fit into it! Excellent product! Well worth it.
This bag is a monster and is almost bomb-proof! I was able to fit dive gear for two plus incidentals and still have room for more. You can't beat the North Face warranty either. I'm most likely going to buy a smaller duffel of the same line for smaller loads.
A really nice roller bag, looks like the material can handle anything the baggage handler(s) throws at it (or on it for that matter). Plenty of room for all my stuff and even some room for stuff on top of that. It rolls well, looks great, nice bag!
I have now taken the Rolling Thunder Big bag on two trips over seas and the smaller Rolling Thunder on one over seas and 2 domestic trips. The larger bag has a few corners showing abrasion and the smaller one the baggage gorillas have broken the extension handle mount and ripped the canvas cover. This bag is not as tough is I thought it wold be. The sliding handle supports need to be more robust and the corners need to have a reinforced plastic covers.
An excellent bag. Easy to pack gear and maneuverable as well. Also easy to detect when arriving off airport conveyor. Downside is that the bag in one trip via airlines showed wear on two bottom front corners and a slight gouge in wall of bag. What ever caused the damage penetrated the coating and into the canvas. I am not too concerned as TNF's warranty is very comprehensive. If more damage or aging of the places damaged become a problem, back the bag goes to TNF. Thanks
Ski boots, helmets clothes for a week all fit in this thing. Great bag, nicely designed. If you fill it, however, it will weigh more than 50lb which the airlines charge extra for these days.
Already owning two North Face duffels, I knew I would be getting a great performing bag: durable, waterproof, overall functional. I got the 8100cu inch bag for my trip to Italy. My other duffels are great for every other trip, but can be cumbersome to carry through airports. The Rolling Thunder is fantastic! With its easy rolling wheels and internal frame, it was easy to handle and pull around. The best part is that it's HUGE. Yeah, I had to pay the overweight fee, but it all went in one bag.
