The North Face McMurdo Parka - Men's - 2005

The North Face McMurdo Parka's been ruling the puffy jacket market for years. This season it returns with even more pockets and features. Now with two internal water bottle pockets, two internal security pockets, and an electronics acceptance system, you'll be prepared for anything including the blizzard of the century. This extra large puffed-out mobile storage unit rolls with a faux fur lined hood. The McMurdo is a perfect puffy for the Chi-town, NYC, or anywhere with biting, humid cold. Science time: check out how North Face utilizes 2-layer HyVent, TNF's proprietary waterproof, windproof, breathable and highly abrasion-resistant fabric. The fur and the hood are detachable, so you can customize your coat like you customize your ride.

Bottom Line: Rule the streets.

like wearing an arctic sleeping bag

By:

Warmest jacket I ever had. Never failed me. this is the second one I own because I was dumb enough to try and wash the first one myself - don’t try it at home. Leave it to a professional on washing down jackets and/ or sleeping bags.

This parka is a monster!

By:
October 28, 2005

Too much for me in fact. Too warm and too heavy. In my opinion it’s not good for outdoor activity where weight and overheating are issues. I swear it seems like it weighted over 5 pounds (size large). I compared it with a military N3-B snorkel parka I have, and it was twice as heavy if not more. With all my gear on and for long durations that’s just too much additional weight and heat... If you live in a very cold windy city where you’ll be using the parka as your primary heating source, or you are going to be standing around a lot and want to keep toasty warm then believe me this parka will make you happy. However if you’re going to use it for any kind of hardcore cold weather activity you might want look for something a little more light weight or just lighter. One more thing, I have a North Face Gore-Tex shell that is going on its 11th year and it looks and feels like new, so if you buy this parka and you dig it then you’ll be real happy with North Face.

One of the Best Buys I've Ever Made!

By:
December 30, 2005

It's been the coldest winter in years in the Windy City (-15F wind chill; temps in low single digits), but my McMurdo Parka keeps me toasty warm. In fact, last week was the first time I zipped up. The 'hawk' (humid, frigid air) doesn't stand a chance swooping down from Canada and/or off Lake Michigan. It can't penetrate my parka. Rain and snow roll off my HyVent shell, and with pockets galore, I sometimes use my McMurdo instead of a briefcase, except for papers I don't want to fold. Even though McMurdo is oversized, my M size fits like an L, a few adjustments tightening the waist and hood cords gives me a snug fit. Might be a bit bulky for strenuous outdoor activity, but for waiting for buses/trains and getting around the city in winter, it's just fine! All in all, got to be the best buy I've ever made.

Warmest Coat Ever Worn

By:
December 30, 2005

This is the warmest, most cozy, most pocketed, best feeling coat I've ever worn. Hood is a little much, but was great at a recent outdoor winter event, waiting for a TV Remote Production Truck to park at a snowy cold Venue. Great Pockets for every thing under the sun. A Favorite with the outdoor TV Sports Group, Next I want a set of Insulated Pants/Bib to match -84 Olympic pants are wearing thin, I'm getting thicker.

great coat really warm and high quality

By:
August 18, 2006

I recently moved to Saskatchewan from England and I got this parka. It’s great, you can put your water bottles in it and every thing cell phone it has lots of secret pockets and is really warm you won’t want to wear a sweatshirt under this parka. A t-shirt is enough if you don’t want to over heat. Never leaked once and its very high quality I recommend this jacket to anyone who lives in a cold place.

Warm & Dry

By:
December 7, 2005

Though we live in southern TX, hubby is a long distance van operator and runs between here and that frozen wasteland of the north (mostly MN). It appears that after years of searching, I've found the parka he needs. The McMurdo was offered big enough (4X), waterproof, windproof, carefully cuffed at the wrists and long enough to keep his lower back covered and protected. The wind-chill factor has the temps below 0F this week in the Minneapolis area and with a long-sleeve layer beneath, he's been able to work in these polar bear conditions in reasonable comfort. Let me add that the website is easy to navigate and the staff prompt and helpful with pre-purchase and follow up.

Great coat

By:
November 29, 2005

After moving from Texas to the mountains of Upstate NY, I purchased this coat for my 15-year-old son. He's happy with this coat. The hood, as well as the fur is detachable. It hasn't gotten extremely cold yet, so he doesn't wear it every day, because he gets hot quickly. The next few months will be the real test.

I loved it. It keeps me warm, looks good, and is adjustable. Wonderful for a cold city Like NYC. Inside you have a pocket for everything from water bottles to cell phones to mp3 players. It’s really cool.

The best jacket ever!

By:
December 19, 2005

I’m from London and the winters can get bitterly cold, but not for me now because I swan about with just a t-shirt on under my coat! I’d recommend it to every one who experiences sub zero temperatures.

Overpriced product.

By:
January 27, 2006

Disappointed that the coat is made in China. The zipper is too hard to operate. The inside breast pocket is not deep enough and it is not as warm as expected.

"awesome"

By:
January 25, 2006

The McMurdo Parka - my 21 yr old son quote- "awesome!!" Fit is great! He likes a bigger coat- He is 6'5" football player. This coat fit him in torso length when other brands that size were only wider and not longer. Finally, Mom knows he will be warm! Fur on hood -great quality! I recommend very highly.

The North Face

By:
March 20, 2006

This is definitely the warmest coat that I have ever owned! I would recommend this to all that ski and generally for those that enjoy winter sports but hate to feel the winter weather. The North Face is known for great quality, but the McMurdo Parka is exceptional. I love my coat, and I'm sure you will too!

Way too warm to ski in!

By:
March 22, 2006

Warmest outerwear I have ever had on! It is way too insulated to ski in at any temp over 10 degrees Fahrenheit. This baby would keep you toasty well below zero!

Toasty Warm

By: Backcountry.com Employee
February 22, 2006

I bought this for my brother who moved to Boston facing the cold winter weather and it keeps him toasty warm. A little bulky, but allows for some adjustments. Pockets for just about everything he needs to carry with him. Highly recommended for those in cold, chilly climates that want to keep warm.
