The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's - 2006

The North Face Men's Freedom Pant is the most pant you'll find for such a friendly price. This pant is perfect for any skier or snowboarder intent on ripping the resort all season long. These puppies are simply sweet—ski and board-specific features include gripper elastic gaiters and bomber oxford cloth wrapping the entire lower cuff to fend off errant trees, rails, and board or ski edges. They've got a relaxed, free cut and a Velcro cargo pocket. Velcro adjustments at the waist for a perfect fit every time. Fully breathable and waterproof with TNF's popular 2-layer HyVent fabric, the Freedom Pant is as at home in dry climates like Wyoming and Colorado as it is in the soggy Northwest. Articulated knees and a roomy fit give you all the freedom you need to huck, spin, and flip your way to celluloid glory...or at least impress your friends.

Bottom Line: Feel the joy of Freedom.

great pants

By:
March 29, 2007

a comfortable fit with great ventilation. they also have a number of secure and easy access pockets. my only complaint is the bottom. there is not a clip on the powder guard, which would be nice for snowboarders and snowshoers. they are also a little short for the size.

TNF Freedom Pant

Great for skiing or rolling around in the snow. The adjustable waist is great for skinny people like me, and it keeps you from needing anything else to hold those pants up while your flying down a run. Also, they look better than most ski pants if you care at all about that. I think they're well worth the money.

best pants ever

By:
March 12, 2007

the perfect blend of tech and style. plenty of room, but not baggy like all that other poser trash. pair with midweight thermals and a pair of shorts down to about 10 degrees, add layers accordingly when colder than that. the hook and loop waist adjustment keeps my pants on and the snow out, no need for a belt. through freezing rain and sitting in slush, nothing on the inside ever gets wet. and oh yea, they're only $130. i picked up an extra pair just in case some corporate schmuck decides all future lines will have pinstripes or polka dots or whatever those whiny emo kids are wearing these days..

Nice & Lightweight

By:

These pants are lightweight and repel water well. The pocket is in a weird place. But overall great for the price.

good pants

By:
March 1, 2007

got these pants to diversify my ski wardrobe, too many black pants on the hill.

good: color and fit. a bit low tech, but the price is right.

legs below knee are too baggy for my taste.

ventilation side zips functional but could open a bit more.

these are great 2nd pants if you already have some high quality blacks.

mmmmm pants

By:
January 4, 2006

I love these pants, they are just baggy enough and while not being the warmest pants, they keep the water out very well.

I recommend these pants to anyone who wants a nicely waterproof pant, which is baggy enough without looking like a poser snowboarder/skier.

TNF Freedom pants

By:
December 15, 2005

I’m very pleased with these pants. They have a stylish fit and great venting for warmer days, but they’re still warm on coldest of days. I was fine in them on a -5F day with strong winds—windchill had to be at least -40F! If you are thinking about buying these pants, stop thinking and just buy them, you will be happy you did!

Not worth it

By:
February 6, 2007

The pants are very baggy at the bottom and the built in gators are useless. If you don't mind tripping while your boots fill with snow you'll love these.

Pants

I spent four hours of the day in the rain and wind on the west coast of Canada. My fleece pants underneath the freedom pants were completely dry and comfortable at the end of the day.

Great jacket for a variety of conditions!

By:
January 16, 2006

This jacket is without question the warmest on the market for the price. It packs into its own pocket, which makes it ideal for the hiker/climber. It can be worn alone or as a base layer if needed in the absolute coldest of conditions.

Freedom pant

Excellent ski and snowboard pants, also good for X- country, fits nicely over Tucker butt protectors. Look cool and with the side zips are cool in strenuous exercise. For the money, hard to beat with anything else out there.

Men's Freedom Pants

By:
January 19, 2006

As it turns out, I'm unsatisfied with the pants. It's a sizing issue. The pants are probably great if they fit you well. I'm a 31 waist slim build and the small (28-30) was too restricting and uncomfortable. I also tried the pant in medium (32-34) from another reseller and they were way too roomy. It was like wearing clown pants. They are equipped with waist adjustments for snugging up, but even after doing so they were to roomy in the thighs and seat.

Well worth it.

By:
January 18, 2006

The ski pants I purchased by North Face worked out perfect. They kept me sufficiently warm but able to maneuver my turns without any restrictions. I highly recommend them if your thinking of hitting the slopes.

Freedom Pant

By:
March 3, 2006

The Freedom pant was not only very comfortable but very warm. I purchased the pant that is not lined and I am very surprised that it was all I needed. They are also great at keeping you dry. I would very much so recommend these pants.

Freedom Pant Review

By:
December 11, 2006

Wow, I love my new Freedom Pants!! I'm 5'5" and these pants are the perfect fit..., they are so well insulated I don't wear any form of long underwear and that says a lot for the cold windy weather in Minnesota!! I had always had bad luck on ski pants as far as lengths until I found your website. Thank you very much!! I will continue on being a returning customer!!

right on the money

By:
January 17, 2007

For the price i can't imagine a better pair of pants for winter activities. I wore them riding last week in negative windchill temperatures with a lightweight base layer and was toasty, but never hot, and dry all day.

Great pants!

By:
January 4, 2007

These pants are very warm. I wore them skiing all day in cold weather and my legs were never cold. The fit is great - not too baggy, and not too tight. My only quibble is with the cargo pocket. It's placed a little awkwardly on the front/side of the right thigh, instead of on the side. Still a great pant, though!

Review of North Face Freedom Ins pants

By:
January 12, 2007

I received these pants as a Christmas gift and they have been through some pretty harsh use since then, and I can say they perform as expected. Really helpful notable features include the thigh vents, which work miracles in lines for a slow lift, or on a warm day in the mountains, as well as the insulation( I accidentally ordered the shell version at first, but returned it) which I highly recommend if you only wear a light baselayer, or if the area you're in is very cold. After numerous falls, these pants performed very well, and i would recommend them to anyone as snowboard or ski pants.

Good but not Great

By:
December 26, 2006

I tried on many ski pants that were either too big or too small. These fit right. On the down side other ski pants had many more pockets & features than the freedom. First, I wore them with only gym shorts for a test walk around the neighborhood when the temp was only 9 degrees. My legs were cool but not cold. Next I went skiing when the temp was 20's, but this time I had on leg warmers. I was very cozy & warm. The vents work great when things got too warm. The front zippered pockets are too small and uncomfortable for most items. I didn't trust the front hook and loop closure pocket, but a pack of chewing gum survived my ski trip w/o harm. The main zipper would be better if it extended a bit longer hence making restroom breaks simpler. Regardless of my feature complaints, they fit right for my body and are warmer than just the shell version of the pants.

Appropriate name!

By:

This ski pant is great! Allows for a lot of mobility and has just enough "bells and whistles". I really like the fact that it has belt loops (my last pants did not). They will keep you dry, and you won't overheat in them. The HyVent is a spectacular material!

Great value

By:
November 27, 2006

I compared these pants to many of the much more $$ brands- they perform great. I like the hook-and-loop waist tighteners and thigh vents. I'd recommend the non-insulated version as these will still keep you plenty warm.

Solid Pant and Great Price

By: Backcountry.com Employee
January 23, 2007

The construction on these is solid. They are pretty light, and they are at the bottom end of the price range. For a tough winter pant, these'll do the trick, and will hold up through all kinds of abuse including dryer fires.
