The North Face Gotham Jacket for girls is warm and plush thanks to 500 fill down. A removable fur trim around the hood helps catch flakes, looks good at the same time and is always removable when it isn't needed or wanted. A ribbed cuff and hem seal keep the cold air out and warm air in. The Gotham Jacket's warm down and cool looks will make her happy this winter.
The coat was great but The Girls XL runs really large.I bought it for my 13 year old and my 20 year old fit in it. So I would suggest that you really look over the sizing chart before ordering. The return process was very easy.
I was tired of my wife buying department store coats for my 8 yr old daughter. They were always really bulky and never very warm. So I decided that this year I was making the purchase. What a great coat. My daughter loves it she's staying warm and it comes with a lifetime warranty so no more busted zippers in 3 months. Its well stitched a easy to clean. Now I'm going to buy my wife one too.
I bought this jacket for my daughter. She loves it and we been using it for normal winter days and skiing. Keeps her warm and show no sign of wear yet.
My daughter who is 11 was having a VERY difficult time finding the 'right' jacket. We went shopping and must have gone to a 1/2 dozen stores... finally found one she would wear... to only get home and the truth be told, she WAS not trilled to wear it, back to the store to return the jacket... and to try another one... again, get home try it on again, and no this one isn't right either. The way jackets cost these days I wanted to make sure it was a jacket she is willing to put on everyday! So now it's about two weeks before christmas, cold here in the Northeast and she has no jacket. A friend was over, somehow she left her jacket at our house, and the next morning my daughter tried it on and loved it! That's right, it was The North Face black gotham jacket, we returned it to her friend. And, needless to say I went on-line, googled it, and found the right size and the right price here at Backcountry.com. I purchased it immediately and it arrived within 3-5 days. My daughter is excited to have it, and is very willing to put it on, because it looks good and it's warm! Thank you very much for making it easier for this mom!
Without knowing her other measurements I'd say she'll be probably in a large. If you can get some more measurements you'll be able to use the sizing chart. This jacket runs true to size.
I've had my eye on this jacket for a while for my daughter, who is 5. Overall, I am very pleased, and she looks just adorable in it. So that it would fit her next year, I ordered a size larger, thinking it would be totally fine as others have said it runs big. What I found was that it really was not very big on her, and I am hoping to get another year out of the small that we ordered. She normally wears a 6, and is tall and thin. Though I have read otherwise, I have found with my kids, all of whom are tall and thin, that the children's sizes do not run very big through the body and you need to size up. Also ordered the Moondoggy for my 11 year old son in a size large (he normally wears a 12/14). It was so small on him, I gave it to my 8 year old son, and it just fits him.
If you're looking at the Gotham, buy it. You'll love it.
I am 20 5' and 120lbs and love buying the north face kids sizes because they are cheaper but so great. The jacket is so warm and comfortable. I wear it everyday and it goes with anything. The hood is such a staple in the jacket too, I love wearing it up (even though it is detachable). The only thing I do not like is the hood does not stay up if it is windy outside. Overall it is a great winter jacket that I hope will last me a few winters :)
Like all North Face items, this jacket runs large. I am 4'11" and the girl's large was too big. I felt like the michelin man in it, although for a child you probably wouldn't be concerned about a more fitted cut. I exchanged it for the North Face womens Destiny Down jacket and am quite happy with that.
The post that answered this question previously was spam. The adult version of this jacket is super warm, so I assume the kids one is as well. Make sure to have some great mid and base layers as well to keep her even warmer on the coldest days.
My 6&1/2 yr old daughter and i both love this jacket. It is comfortable, well-made, stylish. I purchased a size up so it will last longer and it looks fine (other than the hood being a little big).
