The North Face Varius Guide Pant - Men's - 2006

Being dry is important, and with the way you beat on your gear, durability is too. The North Face Varius Guide Pant keeps you dry and takes a beating thanks to its bomber 70D dobby HyVent fabric. A brushed waist and two way side zips keep the Varius guide feeling good, and Velcro adjustments on each opening let you get the fit precisely the way you want it. When it's time to tackle the upper climes, the Varius Guide pant will show you the way.

Bottom Line: Blaze a trail in abject comfort.

Better than my first pair

By:
July 11, 2007

This is my second pair of these pants and they are by far, a better designed pair. My first pair served me well for four years and only recently needed retired due to several slash cuts on the seat. The new ones have an extra pocket, more adjustability in the waist and conveniently placed wear material in the knees and inside lower leg area. And let's not forget the price, 'cause they are a bargain. I'm looking forward to years of excellent service from these pants, as I enjoy the sunny, blue sky days with Avel, gone, but not forgotten.

Excellent

By:

Really great pant for winter activities. I bought them for skiing and they work pretty good, but really they are not made to be worn with ski boots. The leg openings at the bottom are fairly narrow and I find they tend to bunch and ride up quite a bit. Don't get me wrong...they are great winter pants, however, if you are looking for a pure ski pant consider the Freedom Pant instead.

Best Pants for the Money

By:
October 11, 2004

Only skied in them about 5 times but already love them. Very durable in construction and totally waterproof. My warmest pants by far. Can't believe there pants out there at three times the cost- no way you could get three times the performance. These are a steal. If you like good equipment but don't want to mortgage the house, get these pants.

The Name Says It All

By:
October 10, 2005

These pants are warm, comfortable, and most importantly TOUGH. The amount of abuse my pants get, I need something that’s going to last. If that’s your priority, these are a steal!

I guess you don’t need me to tell you that though, cause the word "Guide" in the name says it well. This is top notch gear at a great price.

Warm cheap and good

By:
January 10, 2005

I was debating between this pant and the steep tech. I ended up with this one because of the price. I don't see what else a pant could offer. These are light - keep me dry in waist deep - and don't fall off. I have a small waist (32) and these are still a little loose, but all the velcro and straps keep them up and after I tuck in all my layers it's a perfect fit. I just wish the shoulder straps could be adjusted a bit more (but the velcro is very convenient).

Great pants for the price

By:
December 13, 2005

These pants are the best thing I ever bought. Warm and comfortable. They take a beating and keep on ticking. The bottom cuffs of the pants are bomb proof. I wiped out hard on ski's, knocked the ski's off my feet and the pants just a scuff. I use these pants for just about any winter activity. Snowmobile, sledding, quad riding, and these pants are great. I had these pants for two years now and still looks new.

Solid Pants

By:
April 19, 2007

These are very good pants. I usually like bibs that come up higher, but for more regular pants these worked great. They are lightweight enough to handle spring because they have thick side zips and are sturdy enough to handle a day of backcountry crud or a solid day of powder. I was especially impressed by how dry I was in wet spring conditions. Solid.

Bomber

Great ice climbing pant. I used these for several very wet ice climbs and did not get wet at all. Construction allows for good movement and flexibility. The waist adjusts over a wide range so it is not a problem to use them with layers or without.

Versatile Pants

By:
January 9, 2006

I've worn them on the slopes and up an ice waterfall. They’re waterproof, flexible, not too hot, and too cold. These pants are all I need to get me through winter activities. Did I mention they also work well on heavy snowhoe hikes trail runs?

I wore this once and already I am in love. The pants are great and keep the snow out. They keep me warm without any undergarments; I would recommend them to all. I would definitely ship again with this company!

Good

By:
February 2, 2006

These are great pants and can be worn with or without the straps. The only downside is that it is a full zip and does not start in the middle like other North Face pants.

Baggy

By:
December 21, 2006

These are cheap and durable. It's a no-brainer purchase. These are a bit baggy though. I am 32 inches in leg and waist, and I ordered a medium, but I swam in these things. They felt like I was back in the mid-90s skateboarding. I now use my degre7 XCR that have excellent stretch / mobility characteristics for randonee and the Guide Pant for inbounds laps with my wife.

Great Value

By:
November 21, 2006

For the price, these pants are amazing. You can pay two to three times as much for other pants, and you won't get anywhere near an equal increase in performance or quality.

North Face Various Guide Pants hold up

By:
December 4, 2006

Bought these about 14 days ago and have put them to 3 very hard days of skiing, as well as treking around.
These have held up to variable conditions (yesterday, temps were about 0-5 above, with wind chill taking it below about 15 below) these pants remained warm. Very flexible and do not feel bulky, yet stay very warm.
Construction of pants seems very sturdy, early Colorado conditions exist at the local mountain I ski, and these pants have not been torn or shredded.
I would buy again immediately.

Cowabunga dude! These Hyvent pants were awesome! Skied Copper mountain and they kept me dry and warm and had great breathability. Love the suspenders and the adjustable sides. Digger

Good enuf

Bought these to replace my aging The Norht Face Gore bibs. Two touring trips and holding up well. Hyvent waterproofing seems good, but no real wet test yet either.

Varius Guide Pant

By:
January 2, 2007

These pants wear great and they are waterproof. Wore them for 3 days of skiing in below and above freezing weather with no problems. Easy to layer underneath. When the snow/ice melted, it never penetrated the pants. I have a HyVent jacket that works equally as well. Highly recommended.

Very nice pants for the price. I have only used them once but like everything about them. The only draw back I have noticed is that its a dog hair magnet. Nice pants.

Quality counts

By:
April 27, 2007

My second pair of North Face ski pants and they did not disappoint. Just as good or better than the first pair. If you want quality at a 'reasonable' price, these are the way to go. Excellent fit, finish and wear. with proper care, they can last many years.
