The North Face Mountain Light Parka - Women's - 2004

The North Face Mountain Light Parka is the definitive lightweight multi-purpose mountaineering jacket. The Mountain Light is a waterproof, breathable shell made from Gore-Tex XCR (Extended Comfort Range) which is extremely breathable, soft, and durable. This North Face classic has been redesigned with an improved fit and more functional collar and hood. Ideal for high mountain activities, the Mountain Light Parka has two classic core vents for A/C and cuff closures to keep out the wrath of cold rain and snow. A fleecy chin guard prevents chafing. The Mountain Light has your back covered against the elements and is simply the best tried and proven mountain jacket for all-around use.

Bottom Line: Popularity hasn't gone to the Mountain Light's head.

Great jacket

I went hiking in the rainforest of Panama wearing this coat and discovered that the coat was supremely waterproof. Fits true to size too.

What was once a great jacket

By:
January 5, 2007

I had the same jacket for 9 years and wore it exclusively!! LOVED it. New model has a detachable hood instead of stowaway. Bad move...you cannot cinch the neck so, all heat escapes(40% of body heat). Pit zips moved to front area= loss of valuable storage pockets. Front pockets lined with velcro =shreds silk liner on gloves! Waist cinch placed in front pockets bad move=every time you reach to get items from pockets you pull on/out cinch cords, all while shredding your gloves on velcro. This was a fabulous jacket, very well constructed..now a nightmare to wear and a mere shell of the jacket it once was.Help!!!

Great jacket

As the title says, this is a great jacket. It’s very light, good for fall rainy weather also. It protects from rain but doesn't suffocate you like some of the rain-prove jackets can.

Beautifull jacket

By:

This jacket is very nice and well designed. I got the red one and I love it. It really keeps me dry, Gore-Tex is magic!!!. My only recommendation is; if you are planning to get a fleece jacket to wear as inner shell, get the inner shell one size smaller because if the two jackets are the same size the inner shell doesn’t fit very well.

Everyone's happy

By:

First semester at college in NYC. Despite coming from Chicago, my daughter was freezing in NYC and wanted a shell to go with a North Face fleece we bought a couple of years ago. Using online help I identified the Mountain Light Parka and had it sent to her. She is thrilled , her two-year-old fleece zipped right in and it fits her perfectly. Rave reviews for style, fit, and most important, warmth!

Warm, but bulky.

By:
August 10, 2006

I bought this to zip in to my The North Face Gore-Tex Parka. It is warm, but bulky and not feminine form fitting. I would like this jacket much better if its warmth quality was maintained through a less bulky, more form fitting fleece.

Excellent jacket

By:

I have had my jacket for about a month and have been very pleased with it. I bought a fleece liner separately and combined, it is a very warm coat. I have a friend who got a non-Gore-Tex North Face jacket which looks similar, but she has had issues with water soaking in so I think Gore-Tex is the way to go.

great garment

By:

The price was less than a very similar one I saw in a store. It seems a fantastic buy and an amazing jacket. I've only been able to wear it once since it's been so cold in PA but for that walk it was terrific. Maybe it could be a little bit looser around the hips (or I could be a little smaller there,) but the fact that the zip opens both ways almost takes care of it. Also, it began to rain halfway through my walk so I could put up the hood and remain dry around the head and neck. All-in-all, this was an excellent purchase with much to commend it.
