The North Face Women's WindWall 1 Jacket expands the boundary of traditional wind-stopping jackets to offer greatly increased breathability, mobility, and comfort. WindWall is a TNF proprietary fleece fabric that provides awesome wind protection, yet allows enough air permeability for aerobic activities. Unlike WindStopper and other wind-blocking materials, which can uncomfortably trap moisture and excess heat, WindWall keeps you dry, warm, and operating at your highest performance level. Perfect for outdoor activities as diverse as backcountry skiing, hiking, or just an evening stroll around town, the WindWall 1 may well help you forget about traditional fleece and wind-blocking jackets altogether.
Bottom Line: Take shelter from the gale in the WindWall.
I too got this jacket to wear at my son's baseball games and found it's perfect for the Iowa spring/fall climate. I ordered the Moonlight Ivory/Foam Green and have gotten many compliments on it. I originally was looking to buy the brown but am glad I opted for the Ivory. Everyone seems to have the black one so I'm glad I have a color that's different. As for sizing I ordered the small - I'm 5'-6" with a medium build and the small fit fine, however it was more form fitting that I would have liked and there was no way I would have been comfortable wearing more than a t-shirt type underneath - I sent it back and ordered the medium and am so much happier. I can easily wear a sweater underneath without it feeling bulky. As for some of the comments about the jacket being higher waisted, I definitely noticed that with the small but not so much with the medium. I would say if you are on the fence with sizes (as I was) opt for the larger size, I think you'll be happier.
I love this jacket. It's very versatile, not too bulky, great-looking, and definitely keeps the wind out. In fact I have bought 2, one in XS, and one in S, because the choosing the correct size is a bit tricky. If you are at all between sizes, choose the smaller size, especially if you don't plan to wear bulky layers under it. If you prefer a relaxed fit or want to wear a heavy sweater under it, choose the larger size.
I got this jacket to wear at my son's baseball games. It is perfect! Really blocks the wind and keeps me warm and not too warm when the wind dies down. This store helped me find this one and on sale at a great price. I even went back and bought another one for my daughter. I wear between a small and medium and I'm really happy with the medium- a small would have been too tight.
Originally I was going to order a small but after reading the reviews on this page before purchasing.. I learned that the jacket definitely runs big. I'm 5'2", 120 lbs and ordered an XS. Jacket fits great! Not as warm as my Denali Fleece but it definitely works well on windy days. My only complaint was that I ordered the Spice Red color.. assuming that it would be a true red color.. but turned out to be a pinkish red. All in all, this jacket is a great fit and is extremely comfortable. Jacket is a great choice for everyday wear.
I LOVE My Chocolate Brown Windwall!!! Although, I Would Recommend A Size Up From What You Would Normally Wear. I Felt As If My Measurements Fell Into The Size 2-4 Category, However, That Was Too Small. I Ordered A Medium And It Fit PERFECTLY!!! It Does Get A Little Chilly, But Its A Nice Fleece To Wear Underneath A Jacket/Coat Or Over Another Jacket/Coat. I Do Love This Fleece, Its Very Stylish And Soft. I Definitely Recommend Buying One!!! Now I Want One In Black!!! : )
It's been a few months since my first review and sadly, I have a stern warningthis jacket is something I would not label "campfire friendly." I was standing at a reasonably safe distance away from the campfire (3ft, upwind) with my back to it. Somehow I still managed to singe the fleece and now the back of the jacket feels like sandpaper. However, to The North Faces credit, it still keeps me warm despite its crusty texture. It's just now as awesome looking as before. Don't let this happen to you!
I love this jacket. It's perfect for casual wear or out on the trails. The fleece isn't as bulky as with the Denali, but it also doesn't have pitzips, so choose your battle.
This jacket has been great for running! It isn't bulky and it is warm with good ventilation. I am 5'2, 120lbs, 34D I ordered an x-small based on a review and it is a perfect fit with a running shirt underneath. The jacket is a shorty but you are able to move in it!
I love this jacket!! It is great. I wore it for the first time the other day walking in Boston when it was really windy and the jacket kept me nice and warm. The length meets at my hips and it is nicely fitted.
I love this jacket! The ikat blue is such a pretty color that will match everything. I like the lining because it keeps the fleece fuzz from getting on my shirts. It is very warm and a good length that meets at my waist.
This is a great windfleece- keeps the chill out, but still breathable. The only drawback is that it doesn't have pitzips, but I failed to find one that was both windproof and had pit zips. It's been great for backpacking trips and summits.
This jacket is water and wind proof and keeps me warm. It's the perfect jacket for temperate weather and when layered, you can't beat it. Looks great too!!
The Northface Windwall jacket suits my needs to a T. Although it's not Windstopper certified, it keeps the wind out whether I'm riding my bike to campus or sailing on Lake Superior. Not only can it stand up to the wind element, but it is also most comfortable to curl up on the couch in. It is a great jacket for the price you pay and all that it gives you in return.
Terrific quality. It's water resistant, breathable when I'm hiking hard and easy to pack. I wear it as a base layer to the mountain, and I wear it to work on casual days to make my co-workers jealous!
This jacket is wonderful. It's extremely warm and comfortable, and roomy enough for me to layer over a sweatshirt or sweater. I also live in the Midwest, and this jacket is great for windy conditions, trust me! A definite must-have!
I really like it but I’m tall and it’s not as long as I thought (like in the torso.) I got a small and it’s good fitting except the length thing, and has great wind stopping power. This is good because when I’m rowing crew that's really helpful. Pretty good!
I really like this jacket, I ordered an extra small because they ran a little on the loose side. I am 5'10" and it is just a tad short but other than that I love it. It's perfect with a nice long sleeve underneath! Highly recommended!
At first I wasn't sure if this thin light jacket would hold up to the cold, but after a test run in the cold (rainy) mountains, I found the a great layer fleece. This really helps keep out the chill (esp from the wind) and isn't as bulky as most fleeces so very portable. The lining inside also is a nice feature (protects the fleece from pilling and the like). Love it.
I bought this jacket based on the price and the known quality of North Gace jackets. The thin texture is amazingly warm. Not necessarily as warm as the huge fleeces, but nearly! I got the extra small, and I am a 34-26, and it is a little big, but any shorter and it would be too short. I almost wish I had gone with a small just for length. Nonetheless, I'm excited to break it out in the fall.
I was looking for a spring jacket for varying weather here in New England. This jacket has been spot on. Also, as a pet owner I'd written off fleece. The fur would always stick to fleece jackets. Not so with this jacket. Ordering was convenient and I got an XS, which competing sites did not offer.
I really enjoyed this jacket. Its a nice fleece material, and the inside is awesome. It protects well against the wind, and is nice for a warmer day also. I love the length on it, its not too short like most jackets. I am very pleased and I would recommend this jacket for anyone who needs something light for all occasions.
I'm 5'6" and about 120" pounds. I've got a pretty small build, and actually have a short body (I'm all legs). That being said, this jacket was too short on me and too boxy. Also, I really noticed the wrist cuffs. They're cinched and I really felt their presence. Needless to say, I returned the jacket.
I actually tried it on but it is for my daughter's 15th birthday at the end of this month. I know she will be excited about it since she has been asking for one since last year. Thank you!
When this jacket first arrived in the mail I was skeptical. I was expecting a softer, lighter fleece. I couldn't find anything I liked better, online or in stores, so I took it on a recent trip to the Galapagos. It was perfect! Good fit, very comfortable, long sleeves, easily stuffed into a day pack, and offered great protection from wind and even light rain. I got it in a color called Creamsicle, a bright orange, and it shed dirt surprisingly well, arriving home from the 2-week trip looking new.
The North Face Windwall jacket definitely stands up to its name. The wind can't get through this jacket. The fleece texture is a little different than one might expect, which I'm assuming is what gives it its windproofing, but it makes the jacket a little more of a soft-shell texture than that comfy fleece one might expect. The jacket is great for milder temps with heavy wind, and the lining is very comfortable. Pair it with a down vest over the top, and I've even been wearing it around on frigid winter days.
I guess I just misunderstood what this was. I expected a fluffy fleece with an extra layer of a wind-blocking fabric. It has a fleece-like appearance but it's actually pretty thin. It didn't really fit me right either. The extra small was baggy, but the elastic was still too tight at the wrists and the hip. The result was that it didn't have the smooth appearance like in the picture. Might be okay for some people, but I returned it.
I bought this fleece to wear under a shell when I'm skiing. Though I haven't hit the slopes yet, I am finding this fleece incredibly warm, comfortable, and stylish for everyday use as a top layer. The windwall technology keeps the cold out without adding lots of bulk. Sleek pockets are just big enough to warm my hands or stash my iPod.
My boyfriend got me this jacket for my birthday because I was always commenting about the wind up at school (RI). This jacket most definitely helps with the windso much so that you'll be wishing you had pants engineered the same way. Your upper-body will be incredibly warm. It was great to throw on to run to class.
Cute and probably warm, but I returned it because the inside of the jacket felt weird and rubbery on my skin, so I would never wear it over a short sleeve shirt. I recommend it only if you always want to wear long sleeves under this jacket.
I was looking for a spring/fall fleece that I can just throw on or stuff into a bag for later in the day. A friend recommended The North Face and at first I was reluctant because of the prices, but then I found this jacket here and am now a North Face convert. It's soft, warm, light, packs easily, and you get the most bang for your buck!
This jacket is made from the best softest, water-proof, thin and warm material. It has none of the fuzzy and thick qualities of the normal fleece. It's sleek and stylish and you will wear it every day.
Bought this jacket for my daughter and her twin sister loved it. So I bought a second jacket (in a different color) for my other daughter and she loves it. They both wear it everyday. My niece liked it, so she too is buying this jacket.
Love it! It's light, sporty and just a great kick-around jacket. I bought a size larger so I can layer underneath in colder months. Loved the free shipping, too!
The jacket appeared to be very nice but I had to return it. While I kept seeing comments about how large everything is cut I found the jacket to be too snug for me. I think there needs to be another larger size added or for it to be mentioned that this is not cut on the larger side. To me it was more on the smaller side to me.
Very nice fleece. Breathable, lightweight, yet keeps the chill out. Great for a run outside in the fall/winter, but nice enough looking for a trip into town. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the shortness of the jacket. I wish it were a couple inches longer. As for sizing, the jacket definitely runs big, so beware! I'm 5'3", 115-120 lbs. and I originally ordered a size small. It was way too big in the arms and shoulders, so I gave the small to my mom and ordered an XS for me. The XS fits perfectly.
The jacket was purchased for my daughter. She likes the fit, the warmth and comfort, however, the downfall, which can be expected with fleece, is the degree of lint/hair/misc 'stuff' it tends to be a magnet to. Unfortunately, I did not foresee this problem, and with a tween, wearing a dark fleece jacket, it tends to need a daily lint brushing. To do it all over again, I would go for a lighter color, which doesn't show everything. Overall, very pleased with the jacket.
The jacket seemed just a bit small under the arms do be able to do the layering I'll need for a trip to Antarctica. I usually wear a small or X-small in most things so I felt safe ordering small in this jacket. For "normal" cold circumstances, it would probably be just fine. (I live in Phoenix, and will have little use for it otherwise.)
I love my new jacket. This coat is warm, but not too warm. It is perfect for keeping warm while being active. The super soft fleece looks so nice and I can tell it won't pill like other fleece products usually do. Thank you for the quick shipping.
This is my first North Face jacket and I love it. Great size and great looks. I can't wait to get another style. This store was quick and easy as well. Thanks!!!!!
i love love love my northface windwall jacket!!! it fits so good and is very very warm and soft. i really like it cause most people get the one with fleece on it so not many people have one like this. i love it!
This is a great jacket, definitely a lot of bang for the buck. I purchased the Windwall 1 for boating during the cool spring season here in Charleston, SC. It is perfect. The jacket offers great wind protection and is lightweight but not flimsy. I recommend.
