The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Polarguard - 2006
The North Face Cat's Meow is a 20º sleeping bag made with the latest and greatest synthetic insulation, Polarguard Delta, to keep you cozy as a kitten all night long. Overlapping shingle construction eliminates cold spots by evenly distributing the insulation and stabilizing it over time to keep you consistently warm. You'll appreciate convenient little features when the day's adventures have you tired like one-hand, color-coded pull cords to adjust the hood and easy-grab pull tabs on the zippers. A head-level watch pocket (now larger to accomodate larger altimeter watches) ensures you'll wake in time for that first ascent. Not only do you get a stuffsack with your Cat's Meow, but also a nylon mesh bag for long term storage which helps preserve the insulation's loft.
Bottom Line: Curl up inside the Cat's Meow and purr the night away.
i'm riding my bike around the earth and backcountry.com is sponsoring me. cool folks! this bag is great. synthetic so no worries in the wet weather. pretty light weight so it won't bog you down. great zipper runners to prevent those annoying snags. and polarguard delta is pretty compressible. what else do you need?
I really like this bag mostly for all the features it has. It's super lightweight and bombproof. I really like how the pull tabs on all of the zippers are glow in the dark. I'm a chick and I have the guy's version because I'm so tall and it still fits great. It packs down pretty small.
I bought this bag to take with me on a vacation to Oregon in the summer. My girlfriend used it most of the time and was very comfortable. The temps were in the 50's at night and she had it zipped up. When I used it I had to unzip, but I am a very cold sleeper. I am 5'8 on a good day and the regular bag fit just about right.
The bag served me well for four nights in March in the Grand Canyon. During the coldest night when the temp must have been around 20F, judging by the cooking water which froze on top, my feet got a little cold, but I was using a short pad and no tent. To my surprise the bivy-bag I had borrowed leaked like a sieve, so my Cat's Meow got soaked one night. It dried out in no time in the sun the morning after. I was relieved I had chosen synthetic fill.
I recently took my two sons out with their Scout dens for a laid-back overnight trip. My family has camped quite a bit but this was the first time for others. The low was supposed to be 45F but the clouds cleared and it dipped down to 25F at dawn. My 12-year-old in his Cats Meow was the envy of his tent mate because he never woke up through the night. The vents on the side and at the feet allow this tent to be perfect for warmer conditions and versatile enough for colder conditions. He packs a fleece liner in case it really gets cold (or he really stinks) but he rarely uses it.
Bought for a late August 10-day backpacking trip to Grand Teton. Not sure I believe the 20F rating, as on some nights when it was in the 30's I woke a little chilled. Packs nicely, and for synthetic is not too heavy. Even after a couple of week use looks like new and doesn't have any nasty odors. Zips are different length on mens and womens which makes for an offset at the head when you zip them together. Overall price/performance I can see why this in The North Face's best selling bag.
I bought this sleeping bag a few years ago. I've put it through hell. After numerous camping trips in all four seasons and a few dozen trips across the country this bag has yet to fail me. It packs down reasonably small, it's light enough, and warm too. I love Polarguard Delta now, it's given me many warm nights while my buddies freeze their butts off. Ha Ha! It's not made of cats, but you'd think it was by how warm and snuggly the Cat's Meow is.
Ive beat this sleeping bag to death for years- from desert to cool alpine, couch surfing, both wet and dry climates, in summer, spring, and fall, in tents, and outside on a tarp, waking up in the dew. Ive got it wet inadvertently many times, and it still serves me well. I got the left and right zip bags too- theyre fab.
